Question about the Ipod Nano scratches problem

I got the nano bug
I know all about its tech specs and such, however a few q's:
What is apple currently doing for current nano users with the scratch problems?
I am assuming that apple is going to release a "version 2" of the nano with a more scratch resistant housing. If so, when is this release going to happen and when purchasing (in store or on ebay) how would one know the difference?
I am more than willing to wait, I still have my current 3g 20gb model that I would need to ebay first. I just want to be sure that when I do decide to buy my nano its one of the newer improved versions.
Ohh and NO, cases and socks and such are out of the question. Its a toy, not jewelery. NO I dont abuse things, I do USE them thou and I dont want to have to worry about every little scratch. The furthest I'll go as far as protection is a screen overlay (like on my k750i) simply for the fact that I need to be able to read to screen.

Isn't it made with the same material as the regular sized iPod?

It's made with the same stuff but my nano definately scratches easier than my 3g ipod. I kept my nano in my coin pocket and it still ended up with scratches (it was by itself). I ordered a skin to help protect it.
I've heard about apple replacing the ones with the faulty screens, but I doubt they are going to do anything about the actualy surface scratching, i can't see them changing it just for that

from what i've read, i don't think Apple is really going to address the scratch problem as all the ipods are made w/ the same screen material. But on the other hand, if you had the other problem w/ the screen gettin cracked, Apple will send you a new one. Don't quote me on this, but its better to check the official site first.

That's what I've been reading although I haven't seen an 'official statement'; but if your screen is cracked, they are supposedly sending another one. As far as scratches, they all scratch the same. My iPod Photo looks pretty bad, although it did seem resistant to scratches for a while. They do make iPod scratch repair kits that are supposed to be able to remove the scratches from all sides.

send it in soon...limited new replacements.

Apple will replace a limited number of defective screens Apple now says it will replace a small number of iPod screens that are cracking under inordinately low amounts of pressure.
In an interview with Bloomberg News, an Apple representative said that less than one-tenth of 1 percent of its new iPod nano digital music players have defective screens and will be replaced for free.
The article continues:
"A 'vendor-quality issue' with the nano caused some screens to crack, Apple spokesman Steve Dowling said in a phone interview. The problem is 'not a design issue,' he said."
Meanwhile, addressing the scratching issue, Apple's Vice President of Worldwide Product Marketing Phil Schiller told Macworld that "the screens on the iPod nano are made with the same material that is found in the company’s fourth-generation iPod, which, to date, is complaint free." 'We have received very few calls from customers reporting this problem – we do not think this is a widespread issue. If customers are concerned about scratching we suggest they use one of the many iPod nano cases to protect their iPod.'
More screen protection solutions Meanwhile, we continue to receive notes from readers who have had success with various screen protectants for the iPod nano.
MacFixIt reader Dave Steinberg reports that the Palm clear screen cover adheres nicely to his nano:
"My black iPod surface also shows scratches after a couple of light used days. I just put a Palm clear screen cover (purchased from Palm) on my unit and is functions perfectly. All you have to do is cut the sheet to fit on the iPod."
Another reader reports success with inexpensive fishing license holders. Steve Prindle writes:
"To protect the white nano I bought, I found an inexpensive solution at REI, their omniseal fishing license holder, package of three for US$3"
