6210e tracking bug

I have an unused 6210e that I want to use as a buried locator beacon for my motor home if it gets stolen. It will be hidden behind a panel and connected to a car charger.
I know that I can register the SIM with a tracking agency to locate it I'm just a bit concerned about how long the battery will last.
I need to know if it is possible to modify the phone in any way to either get it to turn on and off at preset times, to conserve battery life or to turn itself on automatically once the battery is being recharged. This means that if the motor home is stolen and the vehicle battery is removed, once the phones battery has died, I need it to turn itself back on once the 12 volts is restored to the vehicle and then rejoin the phone network thus enabling it to be located.
Also can these phones be used without the screens and keypads connected?
My present thoughts are to solder across the on/off button as it looks for a rising edge signal to turn on / off. Maybe theres a software method?
Hope someone can help.
Cheers
Andy
