i've grown sick and tired of people screaming at me because they "accidently" used these and didnt mean it, and want it credited back.

so what ive done when activating new lines, i simply remove them. if they want to use ppu, i'll gldly inform them about it. usually get people to get a package or something after i show em what would happen on ppu v package.

how about you guys?

Well I am a customer. But I have ppu (all of the stuff) deactivated on my account - because I don't want surprise charges on my bill.

Posted by: ivwshane

How is it a surprise if you are the one using it?

If I had a dollar for everytime I've heard this I'd be a millionare. I don't just take them off. I explain to the customer what ppu is and if they end up getting a huge bill then I have an initial saying they understood what they got themselves into. How ignorant can someone be? I especially hate the "My kids don't know how to do that!" customer. Just because you don't know how to do it doesn't mean your kid doesn't know how.

I'm sorry, but I think this whole idea is pathetic. I understand what you're trying to do, Alfred, protect yourself from stupid people, and reduce the number of crap you have to deal with in any given day, and I can appreciate that, but I think there is a point. People need to freakin take responsibility for themselves. If you're over 18 (which you have to be to sign for a cell phone) and cannot exercise enough responsibility to control your SMS, MMS, and WIX, then sir, I'm sorry but you're not responsible enough for this cell phone, and you WILL be better off just cancelling it. I always make it a point to tell people about the various packages, suggesting the MEdiaBasic if they got a cameraphone, for $9.99 unlimited picture messaging till january, that's hard to beat.

So no, I don't remove PPU ANYTHING from activations I do. I think it only helps to further drive this country into a melting pot of babies who rely on everyone else to do everything for them. I also don't set people's voicemail up for them, and will only program a maximum of three numbers in their phones. After that they should have watched the first three. What I DO, however, is show them step by step, REAL SLOW exactly what I'm pressing to do it.

i agree with Rcadden. I do not remove those services unless its specifically asked for. These people need to take some responsibility for these actions. And Alfred, you are not helping the situation...

Posted by: Rcadden

Alfred I don't want you to think i was attacking you. I realize you have good intentions for both you and the customer. I just disagree with the idea that the customer should have an outlet to not be responsible for themselves. I'll admit, I also tell people that if they want the services totally removed, they'll have to call CS to do it.

Posted by: BellaDea

I don't remove them either. I just let the customer know that if it is used they pay for it. I find that if it does get removed and they try to use it they become just as mad when it doesn't work. sorry alfred but I'm gonna agree and say that we can't hold customers hands when they get their cell #

Is it all or nothing? Can you remove “PPU ANYTHING” from a kiddy phone only in a family plan?

Posted by: Link00seven

I keep the PPU on my account because I'd rather have the options avalible incase I want to use them then at some point realize they are not activated.

I completely agree with the idea of not having them on by default though.

I simply make sure that the cust is fully aware of the charges for PPU text, MMS, and MediaNet. Usually, they'll ask to have them removed, unless I've sold them on a package, because they want the $20.00 off the price of the phone. And with the new CSS format, they can't say that they didn't know how much it costs to use the features.

Posted by: drinkbrew

all you have to do is explain what ppu is and the customers shouldn't have any problems, the only way to accidentally use a feature is if you bump the media net button

Just to let those of you that do take the ppu features off of the account to not delete text messaging. If you do delete text messaging, be sure to replace it with the admin text messaging. This prevents the customer from getting incoming text messages and also prevents them from making out going messages, but at the same time allows Cingular to send them OTAs and what not. Time and time again i get sales reps that take off the text ppu but never put the admin text on. Doing this causes alot of issues since the phone cannot update on the network. updates are sms messages. No sms on the account = no updates. Just FYI.
