cutting the wife off - LOL - phone compare info plz

so the wife NEVER turns her phone on. like 95% of the time when i try to call it's off or the batts dead and i get voicemail. i end up having to call her on a landline at work or whatever.

so... anyway... my point here is that i'm not going to waste money on her cell anymore by paying for an actuall plan. gonna switch over to a go-phone (or whatever the heck they call the things these days).

i'm hoping you folks can offer some feedback on the 3 options she'd be interested in that are available...

Nokia 6010
Sony Ericsson T290a
Samsung c207

keep in mind that the MOST IMPORTANT feature she'd be interested in is reception. bells and whistles are not important. good reception IS MOST IMPORTANT to her.

phonescoop.com rated the samsung the best but often the ratings on phonescoop have more to do with features than they do with reception.

so... what can y'all tell me about these phones? which one gets the best reception?

thanks!

Nokia or SonyEricsson in that order. Stay away from that Samsung - even if not terrible in RF, earpiece and ringtone volume suck so much that she would still miss your calls.

Hmm. I've had the opposite experience with the c207 that cinguliano is describing. I would definitely recommend it. I use it as a backup phone. The ringers are loud and I've not had any problem with earpiece audio. The vibrate is so much stronger than my RAZR, I like it for that feature alone. It's also a tiny phone, even for my smallish girl hands. I really like it and it is right up there in terms of reception with my RAZR. It's the only other GSM phone (aside from the RAZR) of the half dozen I've used in the past year that gets solid reception in my office, which I affectionately call the metal dungeon.
Now, I haven't used the Nokia 6010. It's on my to-do list, actually. At the Wal-Mart near my house, it's $56 as a GoPhone with the starter kit. I may pick one up this weekend.
Oh, also, my brother in law uses the T290i -he is stationed in Germany and he got it as a pre-paid phone over there - and he likes it a lot, which surprises me because he is a tech geek.
My conclusion is that you really can't go wrong with any of the three phones you're looking at. Sounds like your problem is getting your wife to turn her phone on. My mother-in-law is the same way ... heh. The phone is either off or the battery is dead on her cell. Cracks me up.

Good luck with your decision.

What about switching to a family plan, like mine? I only pay $9.99 for her line; and I have the same problem with her too...

I have the c207, and it has an echo every 10th call or so. Sometimes person calling me hears an echo of their voice, other times, I hear my voice echo in the earpiece...

The 6010 is rock-solid, my in-laws have it.

6010 all the way

How about the 3100 or 3120? Its smaller than a 6010 but still simple and better low-end phone than the other two.

What if you just buy a prepaid SIM-only kit off eBay and let her use her current phone?

Do you have coverage where you live? If so, you would probably be covered by any phone you buy. Don't worry about the Chicken Littles who say the signal will fall if you don't buy a ridiculously outdated Nokia.

the nokia is good. Cheap tho..the 290a might be more sturdy..like the faceplate and the keys

Go with the Nokia 6010. Don't even bother with the other two choices.
