QWERTY+web+mp3/video capable....which phone

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

first off, i want it to be a good phone, because i'll use it as that more than anything

but the full keyboard is very important, hate the other types

i use the internet a lot, and a very capable browser is nice

i'd love to be able to store/play mp3's like the SE w800

i have been looking and can't come up with a clear cut winner

price doesn't matter......quality and the above does....working well with the tmobile network would be groovy too

HTC Wizard

I want everything that fizzbob7 wants, plus VGA screen. Let's throw 1900MHz 3G in there, now that it's coming to Rogers this year. I hope that I'll be able to use 3G from my Fido account, which has the $50 unlimited data package.

I have been looking for the right high-end PDA phone for almost two years now. I'm willing to pay the market prices, but it's not worth $500-1200 for something that doesn't satisfy. Everything on the market so far has had at least one deal-killing attribute. The most common are firmware glitches, but sometimes it's a missing feature (like 850MHz and EDGE). I have given up for the time being. Maybe updated versions (including North American frequencies) of the Nokia 9300, Nokia E61 or HTC Universal will satisfy. Does anyone here know of such upcoming models? I read elsewhere of an HTC unit with 1900MHz 3G in the works, but I forget the name and features.

As a gap-filler, I agree that the HTC Wizard has the most going for it right now. If you are leery of Windows Mobile due to frequent firmware crashes, maybe the Nokia E61 would satisfy. However, some popular media programs are yet to be ported to it.

I was wrong about seeing an HTC with 1900MHz. The one that I was thinking of was the Hermes (a.k.a. Imate JASJAM, MDA Vario II). It's much like the Wizard, but with 2100MHz 3G and a faster processor. It still has a QVGA screen. The 3G must be great if you aren't in North America.

OK, I found it -- it's the TyTN -- 3G on 850/1900/2100...

It's another one like the Wizard, but with all the world's bands that will support 3G for a good while.

Well, I moved from the Treo600 to the TMobile MDA and I'm impressed with the Internet access via GPRS and Opera Mobile, and the Windows Mobile 5 is pretty good, since the reset is not as much of a pain as in the Treo... :-) (Yes, I sometimes did get my Treo locked up... usually trying to use the phone and the computer functions at the same time...)

You have to get a memory card, though, if you plan on taking pictures, videos, playing MP3's and/or reading lots of novels...

As for the QWERTY keyboard, I have to admit that I'm not using it... I'm using TenGo as a keypad, and it works great!

In all seriousness

the best all around, cheapest, smallest, qwerty phone would be the Nokia E61

Under 400$ USD, with 2.8 inch screen, QVGA, 16m colors, Symbian 60 V3 app, meaning tons and tons of softwares you can install (the v3 has little applications for now, but thats because v3 is very new and almost all v2 apps that were successful will be converted)

Oh yes, I had forgotten about it. I guess that I wanted to block it out, as the only 6800 that I have seen had a cracked support for the swing-out keyboard. But, this is Nokia's 3rd kick at it and apparently the E70's keyboard is better to use. Is there a version with 850MHz available yet?
