Hi everyone,

I currently have a family plan that has one more phone that has till Dec 06. The two other lines expired in the contract already and I wanted to match the contract with that 3rd phone. Well, I tried everything to get a decent phone for under 100 dollars with a 1 yr contract...impossible with cingular.

So now, I have two really old phones: LG G4010 and a SE T226 and I dont want to spend much for a new one. I figured out that T-mobile has a deal on the Nokia 6010...price match at Staples with Target and get it at $35.99 and then use a T-mobile $30 rebate. (Total is about 6 bucks + tax). I figured that I could unlock the phone and use it with cingular when the minutes are up.

So my main question is: Are the two phone that I have now much worse in RF and voice quality than the Nokia? I am leaning towards keeping my old phones because theyre literally half of the Nokia's size. However, I havent had much experience with the Nokia to see if the large size is minor tradeoff to get better Rf. Rf is one of my main characteristic of a phone that I would like best.

So, does anyone have any opinions on this? Keep the 2 old phones or get 2 new nokias?

*sorry bout the long post!*

edit: does the site unlock.nokiafree.org work for the unlocking of this phone? i have heard several people on other forums say that it does...but has anyone here used it?

The 6010 does have excellent reception. Nokia also makes a 3120 model, which is smaller and has great reception also.

ev01ut10ndt - Last time I was at a Corp Store, I was with my wife and in-laws picking up their new phone. The sales rep said that the 6010 had the best reception of their entire line (this was pre-6682 and pre-6102).

It's a very basic phone and the screen's resolution isn't the best, but they like it. Reception is full-bars all the time where they live (Lehigh Valley, PA). But you are right, the 6010 is a brick by today's standards.

There are TONS of aftermarket cases (the 6010's front and back come off) -- so you could easily personalize it (Philadelphia Eagles, American Flag, etc.) and there are aftermarket holsters and ear buds, etc.

To the OP, keep in mind that if you get the T-Mo 6010 you will not be able to load Cingular's internet settings even after it's unlocked. You might want to consider getting the 6010 GoPhone refurb from Cingular.com for $39.99 if you intend on using the internet.

After using the 6010 myself, I would have to say that it has great RF and voice quality. It's better than the 3120 in my opinion. This is based on using both phones from the same location (work). Calls will garble with the 3120 in my building while the 6010 doesn't. The 3120 also has the well documented "hiss" during a call. You may find it annoying.

While I can't compare the 6010 to the phones you listed, I can say I don't think you'll regret getting one even if it's until you get a better one (feature/size wise).
It will be a dependable backup phone if nothing else.

Also, if you like your SE phone, WalMart has the SE T290a GoPhone for $59.99 (I think).

thanks for the many replies...

since its my parents that are gonna use the phones (whew...no brick in my pocket...i'm sticking with my v551... ), no internet is fine for them. They barely know how to change the ring tones...

Anyways, the SE (its like the one theyre selling now with prepaid cingular but a little older) and LG that i have have absolutely no features... (SE is about comparable in features to the nokia whereas the LG still has the monochrome screen). I guess I'm gonna stick to the Nokia since call quality is #1 for my parents. So far with the Tmobile service, I have been getting service where the LG phone struggled on Cingular. (and thats saying a lot in so. cali)

Heck, its such a great deal after rebates: cheaper than free phones as the tax on those is about 10-20 bucks already. I highly recommend to anyone that needs a backup phone to get this deal.

Once again, thanks everyone.

definantly get the prepaid phones from T-Mo or Cingular and unlock them. cheapest way to go and no contract to worry about. 6010 is a pretty tough phone. We had one our company gave us this summer (i was on a surveyor crew) and it took a major beating, still worked just fine.

Of course if the OP buys Cingular GoPhones, he won't need to unlock them...
