hi, i have quite a few mp3's on my phone, and wanted to know if there was a way to have the ringtones come from the SD card, instead of the internal memory on the phone. Any help will do, as i have NO CLUE whatsoever on what to do about it, lol, thanks for your time guys. btw i'm using a SMT5600

I don't think so.

put them in \Storage Card but do not put them in a folder on the Storage Card, just the root directory. Then go to Start, Settings, Sounds and you will see them. I have all my ringtones on my miniSD card and they work flawlessly.

alright that works, but is it possible fo rme to get it "customize to the individual"? like on my phones memory, i have some soundclips in the

start > storage> application data> sounds

so that i can personalize ringtones....

is there a way to do that via the SD card..? i heard about some program named
Set Tones http://www.pdamobiz.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=19034 , does that work/help at all? i dl'd it but it's too confusing at the moment....thanks in advance you guys

If you have the SMT-5600 you can do it straight from the Edit Contacts screen, just scroll quite a ways down.

I tried this and can see it under settings>sounds but they won't come up under "edit contact info" for me to personlize. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Ok try this..not sure if it really would work but in the E200/Voyager, it works like a charm!

HKCU - Control Panel - Sounds - Sound Categories - Ring - Directory (String Value) - Change the directory where your tones are located.. - Hit Done. Then check on "edit contact"

Please take note of the original value of the "Directory" String Value so if the trick doesnt work, restore them the same way it was modified.

Goodluck.

Thanks Mayhem but Windows Mobile doesn't have those folders.

Those arent folders..youll be able to see those thru a Registry Editor.

On the mpx220 you will find the key at HKCU - Control Panel - SoundCategories - Ring - Directory (String Value)

I believe that if you place the tones in the StorageCard\MyDocuments folder they should be selectable in your contacts. I think that's how I got mine to work. The MyDocuments folders should have been created when you installed the SD card.

It should work provided you change the Directory string value in the above registry key to the directory containing the ring tones. Mine are stored in \storage card\windows and works perfectly.

I tried the "My Documents" thing and it didn't work. As far as registry goes, I don't have an editor. Honestly fooling with the registry kinda freaks me out. Is is touigh for someone who isn't an expert with smartphones. I know my way around my 5600 pretty well, just don't know a lot about reigistry editing.

If you are not hamstrung for memory space better leave the registry alone. But if you have to mess with it, you need to backup your phone first.
