Backup phone? BYO equipment, no contract?

I am not currently a customer. Will Cingular let me signup for service with my own equipment and not enter into a contract? Will a corp store do it?

If not, I obviously need to purchase a cheap phone upon contract signing. I get a 30% equipment discount. Any suggestions on a cheap GOOD backup?

I would prefer to go through a corp store, or B2B sales. I want my plan discount added at time of signup.

I just aquired a NEW nokia 6230b from ebay. The phone is on it's way The seller has excellent feedback so I'm not too worried about any problems. The phone isn't unlocked, but that can be changed (it's cingular branded).

Thanks for your help!

Yes, but be advised that contract-free plans do not include M2M.

Thats cool, no one I know has Cingular so that doesn't matter. Are the rest of the plan details the same?

What about feature addons (like media net)?

If you're going to have Cingular service, then you're good to go. No unlocking needed.

Unlocking would only be needed if you wanted to, say, use a Cingular-branded phone with a T-Mo sim and T-Mo service.

All other plan details should be the same. Add-ons are apart from the plan, so they can be added/removed at will.

I have a 6230 and it's a great phone, you won't be disappointed.
