what's so special about nokia 6682?

We have 6 6682's available at my store and I just spent about 20 minutes playing with it, and am unsure if it is better than my SE s710a. I can exchange my s710 for it right now, but can't figure out why everyone wants it. I have gmail and .mac mail and it appears I can't check either on it. The edge is pretty fast though, I must say. Anyways, besides the faster menu operation, what is better about it than the s710a?

Thanks guys, just want to make sure I got the best phone for my new cingular service.

With profimail you can check Gmail.

It's all about Symbian. Can you emulate real arcade games or view word documents on your S710, I think not!

I use Gmail on my 6682 without having to get a third party program. Just with the built-in app.

I also can use my 6682 for the following things:
1. Control my PC via bluetooth
2. Purchase cheaper flash memory (a low blow but still the truth)
3. view and edit Word, Excel, and Powerpoint files on my phone
4. Know that I'm getting Nokia quality RF.
5. Play Nintendo games such as Super Mario (1&3, cause 2 was a weird one), Contra, Black Bass, etc.
6. Use Symella (P2P) to download MP3s on the go
7. Agile Messenger AIM client using data not SMS
8. MobileGmaps
9. Snake

where can I get profmail, is it free or paid software?

I didn't realize you could do word attachments, how about powerpoint presentations

Is the BT just as enabled on this phone as the 710?

The 19.99 a month unlimited internet would cover me checking my email several times a day correct?

Posted by: ero2

wait so, I can do AIM with data and not with sms?

Can you recieve phone calls and data at the same time?

(my blackberry on VZW would go straight to voicemail when I was on AIM)

How do you do gmail with the built in app?

Thanks guys, looks like I may be exchanging my phone

Profimail does charge for the app.

Power point, yes

Not sure what you mean.

Yes, unlimited.

Yes, just data

No, but calls come priority. With Agile you won't disconnect from it if you get a call.

Not sure about the built in app. I just use Profimail, can even view most attachments.

will the themes for the 6681 work on this, or the 6680? I think I am going to go ahead and exchange my SE, it seems that the symbian, AIM with no text, better RF, better battery make more sense since it is the same price. Anyone worried about the camera door breaking off? (that's the only thing that worried me)

Do you know how much profmail costs? (just in case the built in app does not work for me?)

Do I need to get a special program for AIM over data or is it included with the phone?

Posted by: Q-ball

1. they make replacement housings if anything does happen to the camera door.
2. 14.95? I think
3. agile messenger, don't use the crap that comes with the phone

you've made a good choice ero, just make sure you get the symantec mobile antivirus for your phone..the symbian version works on all series 60 version 2 and up smartphones..works flawleslly on my 6620,. other great apps are VirtualRadio..for live radio on your phone.but you will need unlimited gprs for that..because its streams live radio which eats up data. profimail is good too..especially with the explorer that comes with it,which allows you to modify or explorer your phone system. also there is a new app called verichat for symbian..it currently supports yahoo and msn..over gprs..it doesnt use sms. check those out..those should work on the 6682.

ERO2? where are you located? can you give me the details of your store? I'm in socal and would like to purchase one of them outright. Thanks.

Posted by: ero2

woodland hills best buy, let me know if that's enough info, or if you need more? Don't quote me on this, but I believe outright would cost ya 450, just FYI.

I got profimail loaded, called and got unlimited data 19.99 a month, BT connected my pbook and synced. So far I like. 2 questions, where can I get good games, and themes? will other nokia themes work on this phone?

Shoot, I don't think best buy will let me buy the phone outright without signing a new contract. Can you confirm this?

the retail price should be $399 + tax ... which is fine with me. Money is no object for a person who is addicted to cell phones.

Wow, that is a lot of links. Let it be known, I don't work for cingular at all, nor even in the wireless department at my store, I just share a love for cell phones But I will give reading all those links a shot, I always like to know what's going on.

is there a cheaper antivirus for symbian phones? I paid a lot for the phone, gonna buy profimail, agile, and don't really have the cash for one more, so...

Posted by: Cuba

i could email you it if you want..pm me if your interested..after i got it for free as well from my friend who also has a 6620

Posted by: Cuba

sent..let me know if you like it..it detects everything..its a must have for every symbian series 60 user

Posted by: ero2

yup, works perfectly, thanks again!

Hey, I have used profimail for a little bit now and am curious, it doesn't highight links, like when I get a howardforums email which has a link to the thread, it isn't highlighted so I can go it. Any way to fix that?

Posted by: Cuba

yeah its like that on my profimail as well..your using the full version correct and not the trial?...oh yea with symantec mobile security..be sure to update your definitions occasionally..new symbians virus are everywhere, and its better to keep your firewall on low when using other apps and on high when nothing using any apps..high blocks all mms incoming and outgoing and third party apps.

Posted by: ero2

no, I am using the trial, wasn't sure whether I wanted to purchase it yet.

So yours has no links as well?

Posted by: Cuba

nope..mind doesnt display links as well..on the trial version if there a option to enter the registration code?

Posted by: ero2

so I love everything about it so far but the contacts list. I sync my phone with my powerbook and everything synced over fine, but now there are letters after every name /w and /m and I can't figure out why they are there. Also, when I recieve a text from someone in my phone book/contacts it only displays their number, not their name. What am I doing wrong here?

ITs not entered the same way in your phone book as the incomin MSS's number. Also about the /M /h so on thats an Address book thing.

Posted by: ero2

I deleted all from the phone book (internal), then deleted all entries from sim, them synced the powerbook addressbook to my contacts (internal), then tried to mark all, then copy all to the sim and it will only copy 60 of like 158 and I cannot figure out why?

figured it out, the remaining ones it would not copy to the sim are just adresses, no phone numbers, so it won't copy those to the sim

Posted by: ero2

I entered the phone number the way it showed up on the text message, but still doesn't show the person's name
