From what some in the Smartphone forums are saying, it may now be looking like more of a early November release, which if true is a real bummer. I suspect they will release the HTC Tornado Smartphone and HTC Wizard PPC Phone at the same time effectively replacing the SMT5600 and Siemens SX66 devices.

Of course, you can always pick up the Imate Kjam now which is going for around $750-799 which will work on any carrier. The Cingular release of the Wizard will probably end up costing around $550 or so with a 2 yr contract. That is about the price of the Siemens SX66 right now that is a comparable device. So, basically you could pay a little more now and get the K-Jam or wait until Cingular releases their version in a month and pay about $200-250 less for a SIM-locked version with Cingular branding and a 1-2 year contract extension.

I just hope Cingular doesn't offer the crappy 100 series of the Wizard that is rumored to be T-Mobile version. If thats the case, I'll spend the extra money and just get the K-Jam or the Qtek.

yes the original tenative release was round the 21st - 24th of oct. it was pushed back a week to the 31st at the end of oct. so that prolly does mean early nov for both the wizard and faraday. lets just hope they keep to that info and not push it back further, cause the closer it gets to an xmas release the smaller a chance i will buy it

Those aren't the release dates, rather the technical acceptance dates... We should see them well before years end...

Any word on a price for the Wizard?

550 subsidized seems a lil rich for my blood.

This is from another site (Mobile Gadget News): http://www.mobilegadgetnews.com/ind...?showtopic=9956

Quoting a no-contract price of $449 and 2-year contract with unlimited PDA data and qualifying voice plan for $299.

I paid about $250 for the SMT5600 last year and that was just a Smartphone device.

I'd say take this with a grain of salt until it is actually released, but if these figures are true then it would be very nice.

The article is also stating a mid-late November release which would be in line if technical acceptance is at the end of October. They obviously want to get these out to stores in time for the Christmas season.

Why would you say that? The guys over at MGN have been very accurate about stuff like this in the past...

There is no "100" series or whatnot...that was dismissed a long time ago...there are two version the Apache which is on sprint, and the Wizard which will be on Cingular and T-mobile. There are differences in the two like the keyboard and the processor.

I'll believe the costs when I actually see them on the store shelves!

I have a source from Cingular that confirms these prices....besides that the Editors at MGN would not post information like this without undoubtable proof...trust me I am an editor there. So you can believe that these prices are correct.
