Wow thats great. I just don't get it. My phone connects to the internet no problem at all. The cable is straight thru USB. I have tried several different cables and the all work with internet but not bitpim. Checked the ports. Did you do any special setting on phone? Bitpim keeps saying it can not find any device. or, specified file cannot be found. :<<<

Make sure you have bitpim setup with the same port your cable is plugged into. Also make sure you have the correct driver installed.

Thanks for the answer. Yes both are correct. Had a phone conference with two VZW data tech people trying to get the phone to handshake with their system file reader and it did not happen. We tried for almost 2 hours. I reloaded the entire com stack. ???????
Thing is, it works perfectly connecting to the internet.
I told the guy it would not hand shake with bitpim either.
They both think something really weird is going on.
win98SE is the OS
At this point it seems impossible to look at the phones file sys with ANY program.
I am wondering if some tiny setting on my phone is wrong - but then again it works fine for internet?????? Driving the gobbledog nuts

The location of the data settings is a bit different however,

data/fax = off

pc connection = usb

Your data settings are correct. What error does bitpim give you if any? Have you tried QPST?

I get two different messages:

LG -VX7000 on COM3 (which is the correct com)
then "The phone is not responding while transitioning mode from none to brew"

also get this message ocasionallly

COM3: could not open port (3, ' create file',' access is denied.')

again zero problem with connecting to internet so i know the cable is ok

Whew Worked on this problem all day and I think I have tracked down the problem. I think it is the USB cable. Because it would connect the phone as a modem to the internet I assumed it would work with a phone file sys reader program. (Bitpim, Qpst, VZW office manager etc.) I won't work on any of the readers. I think this is why,

My USB controller is very old - circuit 1999 Ver. 1.1 low speed. Win98se
Their are no USB driver updates available for this controller and the controller is unique to the MB. I think this is why there is a constant phone/computer talking problem. I think if I use a RPI serial cable it may just work. My inboard 56k robotics is serial and works just fine. I anybody is still following this thread - whatcha think?? Is my thinking on this problem nuts? VZW data techs also think the USB age is the problem.

ps to mehe77 pm me your village I am same location. maybe we know each other!

You need to uninstall your existing driver, Then plug in your cable and you should get a message about new hardware found or something like that. If you dont get a message when you plug in your cable, Then you will have to goto add new hardware.
