Replacements for the Nokia 6230

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I like my Nokia 6230, except it has developed a small problem with the speaker. Namely, that there is a somewhat annoying "buzz" when I use the handset to talk to someone. Headset, no problem.

Since I bought the phone within the past year, I decided to call Cingular and see if they'd swap it. Well they're not giving out the 6230 anymore, but rather some Motorola or Siemens phone. Bah. If I wanted a Motorola of Siemens phone I would have bought one in the first place. What I'd really like Cingular to do is replace it with is the Nokia 6102, which I just got for my wife. Any ideas on how to convince Cingular of swapping me for that?

Of course, I could go the Nokia repair route, which I've done before...

Did you talk to Cingular customer care, or did you talk to the exchange by mail folks?

I have been having a hard time with mine also. I love this phone but I have been having a hard time with the speaker (the ear speaker, not loud speaker.) I had to use bluetooth to make calls. One day it just started working again. Now my text messaging went out last night. This morning I took out the battery for 30sec and then re powered it up. Now it works. I had tried that last night but it did not work.
I don't want a siemens phone or that other Motorola. Would they let me pay the difference for a better phone if there are no more 6230s?

No, they don't allow that simply for the fact that everyone would abuse the system and "upgrade" their phones whenever something newer came out. My gf's 6230 has the freezing issue and the XBM only offers the S66 or V550 which is freakin BS because they aren't even comparable. We went back to the corp store where we got it and raised hell with them and they will be taking care of it once some new Nokias show up.

The XBM folks. I presumed the normal CSRs (or at least Business End User Care, since I'm on a FAN) would have transferred me to XBM anyway. Think it's worth a shot?

Search through the threads here in the Cingular forum. I remember one a couple of weeks ago on this same subject. Some posted in that thread of being offered other phones after refusing the Moto and Siemens.

Yeah, but the best folks got was a SE S710a. I think the best option would be to call 611 and raise hell, maybe get a 6682 out of it. "But it's the only Nokia with Class 10 EDGE, BT and MMC"! (they probably won't know it's DV-RS-MMC)

You must be talking about this posting:

I hadn't considered getting a Nokia 6682, but that might be worth it.

Of course, XBM is still being a pain about this. Only the Motorola v551 and Siemens S66. Bah.

They offered and gave me a 6682 for my 6230.

Posted by: PhoneBoy666

Lucky you. I asked about that but the nice supervisor I talked to about that and she said "I only have full kits for..." you know the rest.

Posted by: ichiban658

Seriously... what is the best way of getting them to give me a better phone instead of the V551 and S66?

I tried explaining to them: look... I had the V551 and gave that to a friend and the S66 was sent to me by mistake when I ordered an SX66 over telesales so I have experience with both phones. They both suck! yadda yadda. But exactly like what PhoneBoy666 said, they keep offering me the S66 or V551. I have called XBM 3 times by now and each time they give me the same deal: V551 or S66.

Posted by: PhoneBoy666

Seems to be luck of the draw.

lol..seems like the supervisor has sent memo's to all XBM reps to not offer the 6682 no matter what.unless the customer actually own the model and needs exchanged due to some defect.i believe those who recieved an 6682 for thier 6230 were lucky..that only last for the 1 week.maybe they will offer a 6102 as an replacment..but dont expect a 6682 anymore..those days are over.

Posted by: PhoneBoy666

I'd be okay with a Nokia 6102.

Posted by: dodgerx88

I just insisted on a Nokia and got a 6682 about 3 weeks back. Hooray for me!

Posted by: PhoneBoy666

Lucky you, I tried that same approach and didn't get anything.

dont take a 6102, they dont have bluetooth, mp3 player, or mmc. if anything try to get a s710a, i have read posts that people were able to do that.

Posted by: ichiban658

Just got off the phone yet again with XBM and they added yet another phone they could give me... a 6820. :| dang it wtf

Posted by: Cuba

lol..i thought the 6820's were discontinued long ago?..wow..they must be digging up alot handsets in thier warehouse

Posted by: PhoneBoy666

Bluetooth isn't that big of a deal for me. I can live without an MP3 player as I use my Nokia 9500 for that. I like my wife's 6102.

A 6820 is a non-starter also. I already have one of those.

Posted by: liqrslinger23

well, i've been trying for 3 weeks now and no luck. got the 551 after i feel like i have exhausted every other option. way to go cingular! you'd think since i buy almost every phone at launch for the no-commit price, they'd try to keep me happy. oh well.

I also had to exchange my 6230. After about an hour with xbm , they sent me a black rarz. I was dissapointed and brought up the fact that the features don't compare and asked the rep to talk to his supervisor about 3 or 4 times. As soon as I got the razr I unlocked it threw it on ebay.

you know it's kinda weird that I say this, but I would almost take a v551 over a 6102, just for the bluetooth.

Posted by: PhoneBoy666

I eventually gave up and sent my Nokia 6230 back to Nokia for repair. At least it's still under warranty and I have a lot of "backup" phones I can use.

Lol, that's what I told them too and the guy just said "Uh...well...uhh...that's what we can offer." Incompetence and lack of training can be amusing sometimes.

I'm gonna call back again today and shoot for a 6620 or 6682. Got a cold, so I've got some time on my hands.

I just received a brand new V551 today from Cingular in exchange for my defective 6320.
Personally, I like the V551. I already own one V551 and it has excellent reception and all the features that I need in a cell phone.

I now have a 2nd V551 which Cingular sent to me in exchange for my defective 6230. I have the Cingular family plan with 2 different phone numbers, so I am going to use my 2nd V551 that I received for the exchange with my 2nd phone number.

I like the V551 very much. It's MUCH BETTER than my 6230.
