S46 Voicemail retrieval GSM/TDMA

In the evening at home I switch to TDMA, and talk on TDMA. TDMA works better for outgoing calls from my home. THE PHONE REMAINS ON ALL EVENING.

During the day at work I switch to GSM, and leave it on GSM all day.

When I do the switch in the morning I notice the voicemail indicator telling me I got a message the last evening, when in TDMA mode. I had a message this morning left 8:30PM last night and the icon only appeared when in GSM mode this morning, long after the caller left the message.

I have to leave my phone on at home (it is my only means of phone), and prefer to have it in TDMA so if I answer a call, I have a lot lower chance of dropping the caller due to the fact that GSM is not so strong in my home.

In summary, when in TDMA mode with the S46, no voice mail indicator appears until I switch it to GSM mode, and then I see it, hours later.

Anyone else have this experience? I searched and found nothing .

Yeah, i have that problem as well. In TDMA mode voice mail and text messages can be delayed by days, if i'm lucky and more often then not never get them. in gsm i never have that problem. :/ Kinda sucks when i'm in tdma only areas since it won't tell me if i have text messages or voice mails.

I also had trouble with text and voice message reminders not showing up with my phone.

Call CS and tell them. They should be able to straighten it out; they fixed the problem for me. There's probably something not correctly entered in your TDMA profile.

I am thinking, that some people may be being confused by the system known to older TDMA customers. With the previous AT&T TDMA/PCS service we could only receive & send emails/sms/voice mails while in the so called digital areas. In other words, we could use our phones to make a call in non, digital places, but we could not get or receive the digital stuff, messages etc. When we returned to a digital area all would work okay.
I live in NYC fully digital, as I drove down the I-95 I would lose digital very quickly. I would not receive messages again until I reach Florida (1000 miles away) a fully digital area. Voila, as I crossed the state line the phone would beep. Hope this helps.
From my other post:
Some people seem to be having problems in TDMA mode.

Maybe just I’m in luck. SW 62.5400 HW 3.021002.
My phone is able to receive & send all types of mail Voice/sms/email icons on the screen, in GSM or TDMA, mode.
Or maybe the problem is only when the phone is in a Non Gsm area. i.e., TDMA reception only, rather then phone switched/forced to TDMA only in a dual reception area.

Yeah but if you're not in a digital area the phone shouldn't work at all (no voice calls either). Maybe Fresh's phone is using a non-AT&T carrier for TDMA ?? I've always thought of AT&T's SMS as being unrealiable. Don't know if it's related to the system that sends the VM indicator.

I spoke to customer service and they stated that although I have the right firmware (ver 21), that I should get a replacement S46 and it should fix the problem? I wonder if it is worth the trouble or they are just grasping?

Today a friend reported that they could not leave me a message and the phone spent the night in GSM mode.

By the way, when identifying the firmware, I press the keys and see my version # but how and where do you find the SW# and HW# everyone talks about?

Thanks

I doubt it's a SW issue. I've had the same problem - reported it - and eventually it was fixed for me. I think its something with the programming of your account into the system.

*#9999# shows you SW# and HW#.

NedDorsey, maybe a poor choice of words (Digital) on my part.
Maybe I should have said when the phone is not in the Purple areas on the coverage map. Known as the Home GSM/GPRS Area. My thinking is in the Purple all services working. In the green TDMA voice only. If you look at the map it states:
Purple all services available.
Green features available varies.
These 2 descriptions apply also to roaming GSM or roaming TDMA.
This info comes from the expanded voice coverage text messaging email & more brochure. Or viewable online.

Just my theory on why this is happening.

Customer service said that there is a delay problem both for TDMA and GSM and that I was again missing something from my profile, and it is now working.

They did add that this is a problem that has be occuring recently to a number of subscribers.

Thanks Ned for the code. By the way I am ver. 21
SW 21.25
HW 3

Unless someone on the HF tells me that I need new firmware,
I am not getting a new S46 phone which was not the problem apparently with the voicemail.

Fresh: I agree, I don't think it's a phone problem. I think some store reps don't now how to setup these new phones properly. I was lucky my store guy is real sharp. He reads the instructions from a sheet & checks what he's doing.
Good luck. Hope all will be resolved.

That's the same SW/HW version I have (since July) and I haven't had any problems. Before that I had SW version 14.something, and I had an intermittent shut-off problem. I've heard people with the newest SW 62.something that are having problems with one thing or another.
