MPx220 Profile problem

Yesterday, I encountered a new problem with my MPx220 -- the profile would keep switching on its own every 3-5 seconds between Normal and Headset, even though there was no headset plugged in, both when I was on a call (sending & receiving), and when I was not. Turning the phone off, waiting a few minutes, then turning it back on didn't fix things, and I hadn't done anything to the phone beforehand.

With the Moto stereo headset plugged in, everything worked fine, but without the headset, the Profile kept changing, and everytime it changed, I would lose a few seconds of audio until it switched back to Normal. No matter what I tried, it would keep toggling on its own. Yet, this morning, it works fine again.

I've had the phone (my second) for about a year now, and it uses the 1.43 ROM. Any idea what's going on, or how to fix it when it happens again?

After working ok for one day, it keeps switching profiles between "Normal" and "Headset" on its own again for the past 4 days. I've unloaded all the programs (Facade, PHM Registry Editor, Mapopolis & Bluetooth Toggler), but that hasn't helped.

I've also noticed that although the external lcd clock updates normally, the home screen clock is frozen, while the profiles keep changing, until the profile resets itself to "Normal" and stays that way.

And for about ten minutes this afternoon, a message about not being able to find "autoprof.exe" kept popping up, even though it's in the Windows directory.

Before I do a hard reset, any suggestions?

I had this problem a while ago.
The power-cycling didn't work but was able to get everything working again by removing the battery.

i had a similar problem and I managed to cure it by simply going from one type of home screen to another switching the phione off back on then ressetting my homescreen to the one i like...this however has not resolved similar issues to friends with similar problems but always worth trying befor a hard rest.

mine just stuck in the headset profile and won't go back to normal at all, can't access any of the settings of the phone either (always gives me an error). taking the battery out doesn't help.. so rather than just hard reset, i upgraded to the latest rom 3.51.
Works fine for now..

Thanks for all the suggestions, but even after a reset, the profile still keeps changing, so it's off to XBM-land. Hopefully, I'll get a good refurbished one in a couple of weeks.

BTW, it turns out that the Cingular 1-year warranty is based on the date of the initial phone purchase, regardless of the dates you received a refurbished phone. Refurbished phones are still covered under the original warranty, but do not extend the warranty.

A couple times when I unplugged my headphones it stayed on the headset profile until I plugged the the headphones in and out again. I flashed to ROM 3.45 and I haven't had that problem anymore.

Usually the cause of that is plugging a non-moto type of headset into your MPX220, the headset socket i think is really designed to accmomodate original moto-accessories ( i guess all ) and if plugged by a fake or a non-moto accessories, the socket gets damaged..i didnt know that moto phones too are like this, i thought only HTC phones have this problem.

..and Master Reset is one of the solutions so far ar changing ROM.
