What size of winter size should I put?

Stock summer tires are 205/45/R17, but I got another set of 17 mags mounted on winter tires (215/45/R17) and would like to put them on for this winter.

I know the thinner is better on snow, but is it too risky to put 215 for winter?
It will be nicer to running with 17" mags on winter instead of black steels.....and I have 2 set of 17s (1 for summer, 1 for winter)

Or should I get another set of 205/45/17 winter tires instead of 215.
I drive mainly in the city, never off road. Especially in the crazy winter

Opinions?

You should be okay, i've seen vettes,911s on bigger snows running fine.

umm

usually u would wanna downgrade to 16'' and get some steel rims. also its better to run thinner tires than wider tires in terms of winter

I run 17" winters on my stock rims. Works fine for me.

Can you throw a smaller rim size on? If you can then go with that, your tires will be alot cheaper too!

I have a set of 17" mags mounted on winter tires.

I got another set of 14" back from last winter, but I would prefer putting the 17" mags instead of 14" steel rims.

14" steel rims for half year is not good for my eyes.
That was the point of all this.

First of all, can you please stop saying "mags"? I seriously doubt your wheels are actually made out of magnesium. Calling them "mags" just makes you sound like an idiot.

Second, I think rip has already answered your question, since you seem adamant that you do not wish to downsize on wheels. So you already have your answer--so long as you have a set of quality winter tyres, you should fine running 17"s.

Well if 14" rims fit, I would, personally use them in the winter. You'll save atleast $200 in tires over 17" ones.

But like you said, you already have the 17" tires, so it'll cost you more to buy the 14" ones, so just stick with what you have and put those 17" winter tires on.

Who cares, it's winter, your car can't look nice in the winter, unless you like washing your car every day, the thing will get dirty soooooo fast.
