Treo 650: Which SD card should I get and how big? Please help a newbie. :)

The subject is pretty much it. I think 256MB is a bit small so I looked around on ebay, amazon, etc. and it looks like I can get a Kingston 512MB SD card for $32.99 with free shipping before an $8 rebate. What do you guys think?

Basically, I want to install some cool apps and games, take a few pics and record the occasional movie.

I also heard that some cards are "faster" than others? So what do you think I ought to get and where is the best deal?

Thanks to everyone.

I just bought an SD Disk from radio shack. It was a standard size, not mini and it was 512kb.It was on sale for $50.00 and retails for $70.00. I just purchased it this past sunday. Therefore it should still be on sale.

Ouch, I didnt even know half meg SD existed! Its not too late, refund and get a 512 MB card!

I got a 2 GB Adata card for $155 CAD shipped. Just format using dos and it'll work on Treo perfectly.

half meg...half meg is 512KB...they dont exist!

512MB is pretty good, if you are planning on listening to music, or putting movies on it, I would suggest at least 1GB.

I think the speed and the make is also important, right? That's what I read somewhere.

I use a 512mb Kingston SD card. I have had this card for 8 months and still have over 200mb free. This is with lots of pictures etc... Get a 512mb or 1GB card.

Funny you should say that. As you were writing your post, I was in the process of ordering two 512MB Kingston SD cards. Sweet deal, too! $32.99 each with free shipping. Then, after an $8 rebate on each, they come to $24.99 each, shipped!

Thanks to everyone who posted here.

Make is important. I've had an number of SD cards not being recognized by the reader. Go for Sandisk. They may be more expensive, but they're the gold standard.

Speed of SD is not taken advantage of, unless you have a camera.

Your Treo will only recognize up to a 2GB card. You can put a 4GB card in, but it will only recognize the first 2GB. 1GB cards are readily available on eBay for under $60, but I bought a 2GB for $99. Got lucky on the bidding.

Here are some websites with good pricing. I was shopping for a card today.

I just purchased the 2GB SanDisk Card for $131 from Page Computers, shipping wasn't bad either!

I just recently purchased a 512 MB San Disk card from Staples for $29.94. I'm not sure if they still have that sale going. It was about 2 weeks ago. Sometimes their sales last longer than the typical week of some stores.

Actually, I thought it was some kind of misprint on the sale tag in the store when I got it, but it rang up for that price at the register.

I've been running a Kingmax 1GB 66x Platinum SD Card in my Treo 650 for several months now.

It's a great fast card (writes up to 10MB/s), and its been great running in both the Treo, and my notebook too.

Try to get a fast SD card, which makes a noticeable difference when writing/capturing pix/files to the Treo.

Here's a place you can pick one up:
