Just had two 5300s updated tonight to the 1.1035SP software. There is nothing wrong with the software that fries phones, it's inexperienced techs who are the problem. The guy that did these phones knew what he was doing and took about 45minutes to do both phones.

The volume increase is real. I was very disappointed with the 5300 when it first came out (you can do a search for all of my posts), but it is totally usable now. It's not quite as loud as the A500, but it's basically as loud as my v8162. I would estimate the sound increase as being two notches louder than the standard software. If you already have a 5300, you HAVE to get this software update.

p.s. The store had a Samsung I330 display phone out. YIKES! That thing is huge. It looked like it was actually bigger than the I300.

I got the upgrade tonight too! The sprint pcs chick that
upgraded my phone was a hottie!!!! okay, back to the point..
I have version "1.035" now and there definitely was an improvement with the volume level.

I would agree. Just had mine updated to the 1.035 and there is a noticeable improvement in volume. The update took about 45 minutes and went very smoothly. I would add that I went to a sprint corporate store as my local affiliate did not have the upgrage and stated that they probably wouldn't for another couple weeks.

My 5300 was fried today before being upgraded to 35 -- the tech said he "tested" the phone first, it failed, and then would not even power-up. Sounds like he screwed it up during flashing to me, and was trying to cover up...

jimmyjames, I sent you a PM -- would be curious to know what store you went to, and the name of the competent tech who updated your phones.

PM'd you back. If the tech fries your phone, it's because the tech didn't know what they were doing. The guy that I went to had done a ton of phones and hadn't fried a single one.

I called all stores in Ohio and had no luck on getting the 1.035 software if you have please tell me where. I read somewhere that a 5300 owner got his software upgrade a Sprint corprate store. They get it faster than the stores. He drove almost 2hrs for it. I'm going to make some calls tomorrow. I have a bad feeling I'll be waiting for awhile because the store I bought mine from the tech said he fried 2 5300's and stopped doing them. He put in a trouble ticket and possible hear somthing back at the end of the week. yea right I'll try and be patient.

ya i'm going to the castleton store tommorow.. i hate going in there though cus there is always a line.... gonna ask buddy who works at their offices if they can do it there might just run into their office and do it there if i can... earpiece i don't seem to have a problem with now, wonder how much louder it will make it with an update...

Do NOT go to the Castleton store. They are the laziest, stupidest people that I have ever seen. They don't even have the right software because they're too lazy to get it.

The I330 is actually smaller. Looks can be deceiving.

I'm not sure where you are getting your information, but the I330 is actually BIGGER than the I300. The antenna is also HUGE and takes up a ton of room in your pocket. It's only 5 grams lighter. Looks like another strike-out by Samsung. They didn't even fix the poor screen quality. I really wished that they had gotten rid of the useless little graffiti pad and shortened the phone by about 1.5 inches.
