Use 5600 as a IPOD?

I have stupid question probably but I want to make sure. My cd player just went out in my radio and it has some RCA inputs in the back. I was thinking I should just be able to buy a stereo headphone jack to RCA cable at Radio Shack and I should be able to play mp3's through my stereo from my phone correct or is this too simple?

thanks

as long as you get a 2.5mm to 3.5mm converter you should be able to. the output on the phone is smaller than normal headphone jacks so thats why you need the converter

some phones have a standard headset jack ive seen. check out the phone specification page for the headset type.

that is a great idea. Do a search on here for the best adapter for you. With the Audiovox smt5600 you can subscribe to Napster or Yahoo Unlimited(my favorite) and download all the music you want every month for a couple bucks.

thanks for the replies I'll check into that converter..

I know this is blasphamy (sp?) but the headphones that came with my SMT 5600 actually sound pretty good, and I am pretty picky when it comes to music. Good enough for me that I don't have to buy or foll with an adapter. Can't hurt to drop a few songs on your storage card and see how it sounds with the included phones.

I agree with Gator5000e, I find the default headphones work just fine. But if you'd like to connect it to speakers or such, then an adapter is a handy thing to have. DO NOT, get the barrel-type connector from Radio Shack. Yeah I know that it is only $3, but it protrudes so far from the body of the phone that it is just a matter of time before it either A. snaps off in the phone or B. severely bends the tip. It WILL happen.

You are better of biting the bullet and buying something like this from ebay:

I have one, and it works great.

It's interesting. Apple announced their video iPOD yesterday, and I was contemplating buying one when I realized that I already have one in the form of my SMT-5600 SmartPhone! I'm just going to look into getting a 1GB miniSD card to replace my 512MB card.

Yes, the smt5600 works great as an iPod. I agree with gator also, the headphones that come with the 5600 are quite good.

The cable that sracer recommends also is really nice because when you put your 5600 in the nice case that comes with it, the 90 bend works out really well.

When I am in my car, I use the cable to adapt to a cassette adapter to get to my car stereo.

Also, check out yahoo music. For $5/month, you can load up a 1gig miniSD card with all the music you could possibly want. The only negative compared to the iPod is the speed of getting the songs onto the smt5600.

Finally, the smt5600 makes a pretty good video device. So there Steve Jobs!

Can't wait to upgrade to the sp5,

me too, my wife is looking forward to getting my 5600.

I've said it before, even if I didn't use the 5600 as a phone, I'd still keep it as PDA/mobile media device. Smaller, better battery life, and cheaper than a Pocket PC.

I already have a smartphone AND pocketpc BUT I still keep wanting a tiny IPOD Nano.

I know I have no real use for it but the gadget freak in me wants it!

But there must be a reason people are calling it just that. It's popularity and ubiquitousness (this might be disputable). Same reason why we call photocopying machines "xerox".

Well, you can always use a card reader for that.

yeah, some I know still call them "xerox" machines.

Everyone I know calls cotton tipped sticks, "Q-Tips".

You are lucky to have aux inputs most only have preamp outputs.

lol I call them "Q-tips" too.

the reason why they are called that (like xerox, kleenex, q-tip) is because they were pretty much first, but look at the icrap, it wasn't first, it's just that apple knows how to make n00bs and tools think they need a crappy ipod.

Nope. I tried. In order for the songs to plan on the 5600 via wm10, they need drm licenses. If you copy the songs using a card reader, wm10 states the songs need licenses.

If you figure out how to get it to work, let me know--going through the phone/cable is VERY slow, like a few minutes per song....

I do agree that the ipod isn't all revolutionary as claimed. Had a good debate with my friends a few months ago about the ipod (he's a fanboy). I'm not too keen on the ipod, but I think it is an excellent design work.

legendary in their design innovation. Lots written in this regard, especially in their ability to attract people who are strong right & left brainers.. Fasinating stuff.

On the other hand, they have been less than successful as capitalists, tho the iPod seems to be floating their boat these days.

There have been rumours in the mill about an Apple cell phone.... my curiousity is in cat mode.

The Apple cell phone is the Motorola ROKR. Piece of crap, like all the other "high end" Motorola phones. Given the quality (and design styling) of their iPod line, I am shocked at this low end piece of trash.

Why would Apple partner with a company that can't even make a decent phone?! Makes no sense to me.

http://news.designtechnica.com/talkback72.html

Had they made one of those beautiful iPods into a phone, with a microphone and earpiece speaker...I'd have been waiting in line. Based on playing with it the other day, I can feel comfortable in saying that the ROKR is just pathetic.

Has anyone else been shocked by the headphones on the 5600 when at full volume on the headphones and the phone? I have been riding my motorcycle and started to get shocked inside my ear...man that sucks when your cruising down the street.
