I should be getting my Palm Os Treo 650 monday via ups! I was just wondering what to expect out of this phone, I am interested in the internet feature aswell as the mp3 player( How/what kind of files can i import to listen to mp3's) i would like to view videos etc. Is there anything you guys could tip me off on ie. how to use this phone more effeciently? How to unlock secret features or program it to do cool things :-) Any info regarding this phone would be great TIA -Rob awdbiturbo

I don't use the internte, but I heard that it works alright. I do use the Mp3 player extensively. I use Pocket Tunes for that, store them on the SD Card. Pocket Tunes will play MP3, Ogg Vorbis, and WAV files. For videos I use Kinoma Player 3EX ($$$), with Kinoma Producer ($$$) to convert my files for storage on my SD. If you don't want to fork over the loot, you can use TCPMP (free) to view your movies, but you'll have to find a different converter to keep this size of the files down. Don't know of any real "secret" features. Only thing I suggest is...the first program you should get/install is Clean Uninstaller. Then over the course of week, load 1 or 2 programs on your Treo per day. You'll have a lot better stability later on. I installed a ton of stuff the first day I got mine, and it rebooted allllllll the time. Did a zero out reset, and did it the other way....works like a charm, hardly resets at all. I also did a soft reset after each new program installation (don't know if this is nessecary). Hope this helps man.

Also, search this forum for the link where there's lots of websites that have freeware, as well

www.treocentral.com
Toccer (AIM) www.atomiccog.com
Get Volume Care 4.30 because it'll greatly increase the volume of your handset and your other applications as well.
Beware of Ringo Pro...It works well on some Treo 650s but not on others. I purchased and downloaded it to use MP3 ringtones from my SD card. It caused my phone to reset even after removing it totally from my 650 with Filez.
Filez is another must have program. You can find it on http://mytreo.net.
Chatter Mail (www.chatteremail.com) if you want push email for your Treo. There's also Snapper Mail (www.snappermail.com) which does push email as well for the Treo.
If you use Jabber then you might want Chatopus (www.chatopus.com)
It just dependes on your needs in what you may or may not want for Treo 650.
Enjoy your Treo.

Hey, a tip for the newbie. Make sure you have an unlimited data plan with your carrier. I'm not sure where you bought the Treo from and/or if they already set you up, but be aware that data usage is extremely expensive unless you have an unlimited data plan.
Besides that, the tips everyone else gave you are pretty much it. My suggestions (repeating some of the above) are:
1) Get the Xiino web browser. It uses a (proxy) server to download and reduce graphics sizes before downloading to the Treo. Thus the amount of data is less and the pages load many times faster than the built in "Blazer" web browser.
http://www.mobirus.com/eng/products/Xiino/
Xiino uses larger fonts, so to improve usability, install Fonts4OS5 to use hi-res fonts with Xiino. This thread explains about that:
http://discussion.treocentral.com/s...ead.php?t=94098
The built in Blazer web browser is still great, but it downloads the full page (at full size) and takes much longer. You'll need to use both the built in Blazer as well as Xiino depending on which pages you visit.
2) I use SnapperMail, I like it better than the built in Versamail
http://www.snappermail.com/wireless/email/
Some people perfer Chattermail (I don't care for the UI myself)
http://www.chatteremail.com/
3) For videos, there is a lot of information on treocentral.com (just search the threads.) The program TCMP (The Core Media Player) supports many video types.

4) For music, Pocket Tunes is great. It supports internet audio streaming (shoutcast, online radio, etc.)
http://www.pocket-tunes.com/
5) for mobile browsing. Here are some leads on mobile URLs:

Also try loading the pages through these two page squeezing sites:

And again. http://www.treocentral.com/ http://mytreo.net/ http://blog.treonauts.com/ for lots of info and downloads.
