S46 and pre-migration TDMA phone both ring, get text msgs ...

Hmmm, some mighty weird stuff here ...

I upgraded/migrated from my Ericsson R289LX (TDMA triband incl. analog) to the Siemens S46 with multiband service.

In GSM mode, received calls ring on the Siemens only, and voice mail indicator shows up. I don't receive the annoying additional text message.

In TDMA mode, both phones ring, get the text message and the new voice mail indicator.

Of course, I can't call out on the old phone, so I can only access the VM on the Siemens (either mode - GSM and TDMA - works for outgoing calls).

Also, if this helps
- Yes, in TDMA mode my Siemens phone displays "HOME" and not AT&T Wireless"
- It has version 64 of the firmware
- The store rep (AT&T store) did not program the TDMA mode, and I had to get on the phone with Cust. Service to do that. They did not do it 'twice' as some other threads (here and at club-siemens) seem to indicate

Should I be worried or bother? The Siemens phone does appear to function as desired in all modes.

Thanks in advance!

ps: My Siemens shows one bar less (3 as opposed to 4, usually) of TDMA signal strength compared to the Ericsson. Usual?

I find it interesting that you don't receive the additional text message along with the VM indicator in GSM mode. I still receive both.

As long as your phone is working I wouldn't worry about the "Home" vs. "AT&T" indicator.

I wouldn't worry about the TDMA signal strength indicator either. The bars mean different signal levels on different phones. I've found the s46 to have superior RF performance. In GSM mode the phone works just fine with one bar in stationary positions.

Hmm, I tested this, and the last time I received a text and voice message. Odd - that doesn't always happen!

I agree - but what about the (genuine) concern of the other poster here (see fresh threads today) who is worried that if it always display HOME, it will never notify me when I accumulate Romaing charges! Yeah, AT&T reps will take the charges off, but it will mean another LONG wait to speak to someone first!

I don't know the answer to that.

I had a similar problem just after migration. Both phones worked after the S46 was activated.

In my case the probelm started when the S46 would not receive any incoming calls, but worked outbound. That got fixed by CS, after they discovered that the phone's TDMA ID info had not been entered correctly.

On a subsequent call about something else, the rep told me that my account had not been migrated properly, that the old TDMA phone was still active, AND THAT I WAS LIKELY TO RECEIVE 2 BILLS. Since the old TDMA bill included a $100/month bucket, that would be bad.......

He ended up effectively deleting and re-creating my GSM account. I was without service for about 5 hours, but everything has been OK since.

You might want to confirm that the TDMA service has really been shut off........

Shouldn't that alone imply it was shut off?

And it only rings, or receives text messages (notifying voice mail reception - which I can't check on that phone) when my Siemens phone is in GSM mode.

FWIW, my online access to my old-style user page (for the TDMA phone) has also been disabled. My new "Online Customer Service" page has almost no info, and displays the options to change profile/password etc, while displaying an error message that "no invoices on this account yet"

I think I WILL call AT&T tonight and have them sort this out!

ashutoshsm, unlike your previous upgrades within TDMA, ie. upgrades or new phones or extra minutes. You have now closed that account, hence no online CS for TDMA. That account is now dead. You had to open a new GSM account. As you point out, it is missing all the options of upgrading or changing services. Pretty useless in that dept.
Re, the errors when opening CS online. The first month I opened my CS Online, it took about a week before the account info came on screen. I could see only change password or profile, clicking on account would just say error. I then got a small bill , which covered one day, $3.58. I then received by mail a bill for the closing balance of the old TDMA account. My new billing date became the 20th (the day I got the new phone service). The second month came around the 20th cut off came. Unbilled usage, started at zero use. Took more then 15 days for my new 20th of the month bill to appear online. In-fact I got the paper bill before It was visible to me or AT&T CS reps. ODD.
Hope that long winded explanation helps.
