Good job Tripy on the new thread. I had started thinking this thing might not come out till I got the information last week.

I was a bit negative myself on this device at first, but it is much better than the specs might indicate. Most reviews are good on it and let us remember there is no perfect device. If you are looking for something with one handed operation and GPS it is an excellent choice. Even the new Wizard has its flaws so lets not be too harsh on this device till we get real world feedback from here in the US and plus we will have to take into account pricing when it is released. Many times the value of a device or its rating depends on the price you buy it at. I have heard the pricing will be better than expected, but we cannot know for sure till it comes out shortly.

Posted by: eimajuno

I am really looking forward to this device. I almost bought a imate jam this weekend but I decided against it. I think I am going to get this instead.

Posted by: spartacus13b

I am waiting for this device to hook up my new GoodLink access to it... I just wonder if I will be keeping it but I think once the 9300 makes the splash I will be going to that.....

No windows 5.0 ???? are they kidding...Good luck to anybody who buys this outdated clunker.

Posted by: bizwarrior

Well, they did do something today, but instead of being able to buy it today, they made an announcement when we can buy it.

HP and Cingular says Oct. 31.

Here is the an article about the release date from Cingular:

Just noticed this. Have to disagree with you. I know in technical terms Windows Mobile 5 is better, but then there is the real world use of it. I have a couple of reviews now where there are very mixed feelings about 5.0. In fact one reviewer said it was not that big a deal. I think just saying because it does not have 5.0 on it, then it is a clunker is incorrect. Besides the reviews I am seeing problems people are having with Wizards and 5.0.

Quite possibly the stability provided by an earlier operating system is advantageous for the device at this point for the average user. Not everyone is a power user that needs or will even notice the operating system bells and whistles and new operating system features. We that are power users or more aware of technical issues sometimes forget that most people on a phone or pda just want it to work well, not necessarily have all the latest of whatever.

If you need one handed operation, gps and windows mobile, then this is the way to go.

If you use Exchange and you want push email with SP2 then this device won't cut it......You need WM5 for that. Still AUTD is a good option and I don't get that much email anyways. I would get this device if HP would offer a upgrade but thats never going to happen. I will be waiting for the 6715 instead.

Posted by: spartacus13b

Does anyone know if the phone will be upgradable to WM 5.0 anytime once it is stable

HP has indicated they will not be offering an upgrade. You could check to see if the xda people will be putting something out.

Posted by: spartacus13b

That kind of sux but I am sure that once the 9300 makes its come out I will be switching anyways so I wont even have time for WM5.0... maybe just maybe I pick up something later that has WM5.0... I basicly need something that will run goodlink so that I can get my email....

Oh and I heard it might be in some stores before 30th....

Posted by: MrDSL

Didn't HP announce that the 6715 would be out beginning of next year but thats kinda disappeared. Its pretty clear that HP wants to dump this old phone supply off before they release the 6715 and Cingular is just the carrier to do it..

YAY great phone thanks Cingular..

I mean seriously this is a joke and rather insulting..

blame HP, not the operator.

Posted by: MrDSL

But doesn't Cingular have the option to skip the phone in their lineup?

Posted by: bizwarrior

It was used in the television show Alias last night! Rachel used it to help break into the casino vault. I do not think that was what it is intended for! They had some sort of Matrix-like screensaver running on it to imitate breaking a code.

Posted by: spartacus13b

hahaahha lol that is great....

Posted by: spartacus13b

Oh and one thing that I am not happy about is that this phone has no WiFi,.... now I have to buy and SD WiFi card

Posted by: ichiban658

This phone caught my eye a few weeks ago. It looks totally awesome, but I think that some of my interest has been diverted to the HTC Wizard.

Posted by: hucworld

are any of you buying this phone when it comes out or are you guys waiting?

Posted by: mulletwireless

I got to use one over the past weekend. It was okay it wont make me rush out to get one. Most cingular stores had marketsource HP reps instore to do instore launch chat for this handset. It is market dependent on who get them 1st. To me it felt cheap like a handspring pda of the past. I get a MotoQ on December 14th which I cant wait to test out, it looks like a winner but its a Moto so who knows what hidden things might come out after its released a la the v600, V60i-g's...

yup. nice phones

Posted by: noodles5666

How much is retail on the HP?

Posted by: obstacles can kill

got one in stock in the store i was workin in today. it came in with todays shipment. even though it is WM2003, i was still very impressed. i really like the dual memory card slots (both MMC/SD and miniSD) and the keyboard has an amazing feel to it. plus, for some reason, i really love the holster that is included. i will definitely be pickin it up soon. the built in screen protector rocks too. good job HP

Posted by: ASimpleFarmer

yeah we have it instock too

Posted by: PhantomFone

On Cingular.com as well too.

Posted by: spartacus13b

I am getting mine on Monday... I have my GoodLink access that go aproved today so I am really wanting this phone so much....

Posted by: mamosley

anybody played with gps on this yet? I was heading to Fry's tomorrow to buy a bluetooth gps receiver, but may hold off.

Posted by: BWD

What zip are you typing in at cingular.com to pull it up?

Posted by: hucworld

man listen...I stopped in the store here in the Cleveland market on Saturday and played with it and was not impressed with it at all. it seems like a big plastic paperweight! the only cool feature that it had was a flip up and flip down screen protector. I bought a Treo 650 on thursday night and I am sticking with it by far. also on the box it said that it has EDGE and Windows Media Player 10 which the versions that my boy at the store had, had neither on it. so if you guys are in a hurry to waste money ($599.00 retail) then go ahead. in other handset news, I was told that the 9300 wouldnt be out until first of the year!

Posted by: Perceptions

I had a chance to play with it over the weekend, coming for an iMate JAM the first thing that came to mind was that it was wider and the display was smaller (JAM 320x240, HP 240x240). I was able to install my programs that I run with my JAM and worked without issue. However, I must agree that the keyboard keys are really small and cramp.

Wait you are telling me that the phone does not have EDGE... ring the bell let Stan know... yes the phone has both EDGE and WM10 I am not sure what you were playing with but it sure was not an HP 6515

Also 9300 has been launched thru B2B and will be aveliabe to stores via special order very soon...

Not sure where you are getting your info but its a bit biast...

Posted by: hucworld

well maybe the unit I was playing with was a lemon cause even the manager of the store even documented the error on the phone and claimed that he was gonna ship it back out, and as far as the 9300 please fill me in on the info you have for it

See in your original post you did not mention that this might have been a bad unit you were dissing the phone in general.... I have been playing with mine since satrday and I absolutly love it.... As far as 9300 is concerned it is aveliable to Cingular premier accounts...over 2000 lines and that is it

Posted by: hucworld

i do apologize for being so vague. never the less, that is a damn shame cause I was kinda looking for that phone. maybe I might have to order it somewhere or wait for the motorolaQ. any horror stories with the phone so far?

Posted by: spartacus13b

no not really it seems to do everything that I try.. . I got to say though I do lile it better than the 650 .... not trying to argue with you but I still have not used it long enought to say that it is better than the treo... I had my treo for like 4 months and I liked it but this one has the potential to be better....

Posted by: spartacus13b

anyone else pick one up? was wondering if there other things that I have missed

Posted by: Mykeee

I passed by a cingular store next to my work to check it out but they didn't have it in stock, they said late november. I don't want to buy the thing through telesales, I have a premiere account, never used it and don't know the number to call, someone wanna shoot me a PM? I can get on the website for the premiere customers and see my discount, but I don't want to get it under contract. But I still want to hold the thing in my hands before spending $500+.

Good luck trying to get it thru premier. I went thru the usual "we dont have that in stock crap" You would think their biz customers would get them first but i guess cingular's logic is flawed

Posted by: eimajuno

I played with the HP iPaq this evening. It was nice but it felt kinda cheap and not to mention wide. Big phones do not bug me but I really want to wait to see the HTC. When that is released I will make my decision on which one to buy.

ok after careful consideration I think I am gonna go take another look at this phone. do you think I should actually buy? keep in mind that I have a 650 as well, would it be an upgrade or should I stay put with the Treo?

Yea same here. Didn't like it so I returned it and stuck with my Treo.

Posted by: ASimpleFarmer

i <3 the new IPaq. but i'm gonna wait for the htc to come out to make decisions

the keypad is much better than the cramped treo 650 and non tactile sx-66

Posted by: hucworld

ok I just picked this phone up and I must say that I am more than impressed. In earlier posts I said that I had got hold of a "bad" unit once they arrived in the store. Well today I am pleased to say that I have this phone and love it. The RF/ reception on this phone is great and the ear piece volume is wonderful.

Will the HTC be released through Cingular?
