What is the MP3 used for? For ring tone 64KBPS in mono is enough. I never did bother to lower the rate as I have a 1 GB SD card. I just clip the MP3 to about 30 seconds. For listening to music using a stereo head phone you'll need at least 128KBPS in stereo.
