Possible Answer to mysterious powerdowns on MPX-220

This is the answer in my case, not sure about yours.

On my MPX-220 (which I had replaced a few times from NBO) I would find my phone powered off for no reason from time to time. Sometimes it would power off in the middle of a call. I have a tight battery connection (with the help of some paper)

I recently started playing with PPC phones. First a Siemens SX-66 then an Ipaq HW-6515. On these phones I would notice frequent Invalid sim or ! by the signal strength (SX66 vs IPAQ). WTF In fact it was increasingly difficult to maintain a conversation as it would often say Invalid after a minute of talking.

Then I figured maybe I have a flakey SIM. I got a new SIM from the local Cingular store and that fixed my problem.

Now the interesting thing is the MPX almost never said missing or invalid SIM. I only recall it saying that once in Las Vegas at 120 degrees.

I think perhaps the MPX-220 just freaks out and locks up or shuts down if in the middle of usage the SIM becomes unusable.

When I got the new SIM the cingular guy told me the old one was an old 19 bit SIM and the new one is 20 bit. It could be you need the newer SIM on the PPC phones, but I still think it must have had something to do with my periodic power downs on the MPX-220.

--BTW Love the Ipaq HW6515 it's definately the right phone for me.

**Probably selling my MPX-220 if anyone is interested.

Sold it to a friend yesterday. Sorry. I like the HW6515 that much that I felt I would never use the MPX-220 again.

I also noticed that with the new SIM the MPX-220 found the signal so much faster than before. I always thought it was a smartphone thing but man it would take 2 minutes + after the today screen appeared to find the signal, but now it's fast like a normal phone.
