Moto MPx220 already gone?

I went by a Cingular Corp store today to get the MPx220. The sales guy said he would have to special order it. But when he checked on the time frame from with his product manager he was told he could not get it anymore. I mentioned I saw it on the website, but he had no clue.

Has this thing already been dropped after the re-release?

If so, now what? I need something that does reliable calendar sync and contact sync and the price was right. I could careless about email: i.e. don't need a keyboard.

I just bought an unlocked MPx220 from simoncells and I'm very happy w/ the purchase process and price, got it for $306, shipped + moto oem car charger...

If you don't want unlocked/unbranded and want the Cingular branded version, I called recently b/c the store didn't have it and wasn't going to get it (same story you got, they offered to order it but never actually had them check stock)...anyway...when I called the 800 CS number, they said the non-contract price was $349 and there was a $40 rebate...if you were going to get a contract reduced price, I'm sure they still have them over the web and over the 800 number.

Thanks for the info Chris.

I'm going to be a new Cingular customer so most likely get some kind of contract. I saw that letstalk has the phone for $99 so I am considering that. Though it bothers me that this phone is already hard to get through Cingular.

Yea, definitely go thru a 3rd party or Cingular themselves to get the break on price...

I wouldn't worry about it being hard to get, it's been hard to get the entire time it's been out I think, b/c of the various problems w/ early firmware and Moto recalls...b/c it is a WM2003SE phone, and all the new stuff coming out is WM5, it's definitely on the tail end of it's lifespan, the phone is still a good phone/PDA hybrid and does everything you indicated in your post, and does it well.

Anyway...w/ the latest firmware, this is a pretty sweet phone and other than not being EDGE and WM5, I think you'll like it...if you read much about it in the Smartphone forum here, you'll get an idea of it's shortcomings and the things it does well...as a prior SMT5600 owner, I'm equally happy w/ my MPx220...actually a little more happy b/c I like the nav buttons and size of the buttons way better tham the SMT, otherwise, I find them pretty much the same for what I use them for.

Check to see if Cingular has a discount program with your employer. You need a Foundation Account Number (or FAN). I signed up with Cingular Blue last week. The MPx220 is $224.99 with a 1 or 2 year contract with my FAN discount I believe that price also applies to the Orange side as well.

I just called today to swap for the MPx220... It will be here tomorrow

Ahh good to hear. My co-worker has the SMT5600 and likes it, but I prefer flip phones...this way I when I forget to enable lock mode I don't randomly call people from my phone book

Only other thing I'd consider would be whether or not the Cingular unit is SIM locked and/or App locked...I had a Cingular MPx220 for a week or so, but I don't recall what state it was in...plus, I had bought an 'unlocked' version anyway, so it was probably unlocked...anyway...maybe someone w/ a stock, from Cingular, MPx220 can answer that...if it matters to you...

Wirefly is still giving away the 220 for free, I believe.

You can buy them frequently off E-Bay in good shape for $200.

You have to wait like 6 months before you can even send in the rebate forms. Then processing is a good chunk of time after. I dunno about you but in six months I more than likely will have another phone On top of that, they require a 2 year contract.
