Samsung P207 USB Data Cable Problems

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Tsalagi

I contacted Samsung on Friday only to learn the P207 can't currently be used with pc/laptop cable. According Samsung, there are software updates that have not yet been written to allow communication across the P207's datalink.

So for all of you banging your heads trying to get your pc to communicate with the p207 (including myself), save your efforts -- It won't work and Samsung has acknowledged this. Also, for those who purshased the Samsung serial cable to be used with this phone, you may want to return it. According to Samsung support, the communications update will be USB only.

Not exactly what I wanted to hear, but atleast they're aware of it and they tell me the capablility should be out within a couple months. Bummer, now I gotta manually enter nearly 200 phone numbers.

Posted by: dorkus

thanks for the info Tsalagi, that's unfortunate to hear. i just got a P207 and spent my idle time here and there filling in my address book, which was not so bad (i don't have that many friends ), but i would really really like to get some better ringtones on this thing w/o paying 2 bucks a pop. besides, i don't even like those junky pop music ringtones they peddle - i just want a normal non-polytone phone ring!

Posted by: Tsalagi

Dorkus, have you had any luck with the new Samsung software version? I tried it with the serial cable I have here with no success. If the USB setup works I'll go get the cable. But until someone else can post some positive results I don't plan on buying the 70 $ cable.

Is the USB cable working for you with the updated Samsung S/W ?

Thanks for any status...

that software has been on samsung's website for over a month and it does not fix any connectivity problems, atleast not for me nor others.
hopefully some software / cable will be released so we dont have to listen to those annoying samsung ringtones!

yes, i got it to work! with the USB cable though, not the serial cable. i used the universal Samsung USB cable i bought from Radio Shack a couple years ago for my Verizon A530 phone, and it worked fine.

install the Samsung USB drivers first, then plug in the phone with the USB cable. you will be prompted several times by Windows XP about new hardware - just choose to "Automatically Install" all hardware. Windows will prompt you about unsigned drivers, just click "Continue anyway" each time. it should add a whole bunch of different devices, including the modem function. when you are done Windows will have all the hardware registered and ready to use.

the next step is to figure out which COM port your modem is on. if your GPRS modem software was installed properly you should be able to go to the "Phone and Modem Options" control panel in Windows and see "Samsung Mobile USB Modem II 1.0" available. next to it it will show the port - in my case it was on COM6. now open up the Samsung PC Studio II file manager (i'm assumming you downloaded and installed it), go to File -> Setup and select COM6 for the port. close the program, restart it, and it should sync everything up.

the software works for me - i am able to have the device recognized by windows and sync my address book etc. however i have not figured out how to upload ringtones yet, if that is what you are referring to.

Posted by: LicorShot

i got the P777 and it came with the software and usb cable
...i can't get ringtones on it either
it kinda forces u to purchase them from cingular and or samsung
only thing i can do it upload /download MP3's, photos, and videos
the P777 is a solid phone i was gonna look to the 207 but i really like this phone i am almost considering keeping it regardless of no speakerphone and no bluetooth
but the SE 710a might be what i get instead
i can't wait any longer for a nokia flip .....

Posted by: internetdude01

Ok, so its not official, but take a look at this....

USB Cable

you think it is worth buying/trying?

Posted by: internetdude01

bump.......

Posted by: LicorShot

i would get it and use it
must work if they are selling it
check out the software it comes with
that will help in the decision

Posted by: internetdude01

well, even if it doesnt come with the software, you can always download it from samsung so.......

Posted by: LicorShot

yeah but not the software to do your ringtones
Samasung software seems to only support the phones folders to pics vids and MP3s (if the phone is capable of them)
different software on the other hand may allow many more differnt options
just do alittle research be4 u jump into stuff
usually if it sounds too good to be tru
it usually is
Licor...........

Posted by: internetdude01

well, cant you just attach the ringtones to a mail message and download them from the internet on your phone?

Posted by: LicorShot

never thought of it .... might work or u can even email them to your phone's email and retreive them that way
wap.rousso.net is prolly one of the easiest ways though
cause either way u are gonna have to download it and so forth so u can browse that from anywhere and not have to be buy a PC
or u can even email them to your phone's email and retreive them that way

Posted by: internetdude01

well try it and tell me if it works, i know you have a p777, but if it works on there, then it should work on the p207

Posted by: LicorShot

Can't get the email to go thru so maybe its my fault cause i never send myself email or anything
besides i returned the phone today
went with a Treo650 for the weekend
this phone is nice as can be

Posted by: internetdude01

poonaner!!! I really wanted to see if it was possible, ok,

Calling All Samsung/ Cingular Users!

If you are reading this and are a cingular user with a samsung phone, i am asking a favor of you. Will you please see if you can send yourself an email with a ringtone attached to it and see if you can download it to the phone...thnxs!

I'm not seeing the drivers on the Samsung site. Is it on the same download page with the software? I can only find the Samsung PC Studio II stoftware, but no drivers. Can anyone send a link?

Posted by: LicorShot

they should download with studio 2
they install 3 times on XP for some reason
its wierd just keep trying

Posted by: MikeZQ

Is anyone else having trouble downloading PIMSfile manager off of Samsungs web site? I get about 27% down loaded and it stops and says down load complete. I have tried several times with the same results. PM or email with any info would be most welcome.

Thanks,
Mike

Has anyone been able to make this program work to upload pictures or ringtones to the phone? I see alot of posts about this but no definitive answers! If you were able to get it work:

1. What PC-Phone cable did you use?
2. What were your settings?

Thanks

you can connect to the phone, but all the program lets you do is edit/sync your address book and download pictures from the camera. no ringtone upload capability, i think you can upload pictures to the My Photos directory though, not sure

i used a generic USB cable for Samsungs i got from Radio Shack. i got it a couple years ago for my Verizon A530 but it works fine. if you have the drivers and your pc recognizes the phone and GPRS modem, you can go to the Phone and Modems control panel in windows to figure out what port it is on. on my computer it is COM6, but it will vary.

Posted by: LicorShot

ringtones are not possible with the cable or program that u get from samsung
but there is was small way around that
first off u can go to "Wap.rousso.net"
on your pc sign up as a member its free and then once u sign up and activate an account u can access if from your phones browser at the same address listed above
u can download the mp3 ringers i only know for sure this works on the p-777 but i think the 207 is pretty much the same phone internally
also u can get another software program that will give u the ability to create and place ringtones in the ringtones section of the phone
i do not have any experience with this but i know it is possible
as for what software u will have to search for that one cause i do not know which one out there will do it
the last thing u can do is email a tone to yourself and download it that way .... someone else did this and it worked fine
u do not have to convert it to a different format u can leave the tones as MP3 they work fine that way
hope that helps

doesn't work, sorry. i emailed myself a midi but the attachment got stripped.
as of now i don't see any way to get ringtones off the phone other than buy buying from Cingular. lame.

Posted by: dsnedecor

I still can't find the drivers for this? I must be missing them on the samsung site. Can someone upload them somewhere?

thanks a ton LicorShot! i all but gave up on uploading ringtones via the usb cable, but this worked like a charm... put a few of my own midi's in the "personal file cabinet" on rousso.net, then downloaded them on my phone. it's slow and tedious and i incur the bandwidth charges, but sure beats buying crappy cingular tones or being stuck with the stock ones!

cheers,

Ive been having the same problem. Anyone...? Help!
How can i upload my pictures.. has anyone been able to do this?

Posted by: jongmin

i was reading some posts about p207 and seems some ppl doesnt know how to connect it to the comp

hope this helps

first download these files

this one is the driver
http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.c..._USB_Driver.exe

this one is the Samsung PC Studio PIMS & File Manager II
http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.c...ile_Manager.exe

this ones Samsung PC Studio Image Editor II (this ones optional)
http://org.downloadcenter.samsung.c...mage_Editor.exe

extract USB Driver.exe
you will see that it has 2 folders named "Samsung CDMA USB Driver" and "Samsung Mobile USB Driver"
open Samsung Mobile USB Driver folder and run Setup.exe and install the driver

connect the p207 to the comp
windows will say new hardware found and will ask u to install the drivers
find 'Samsung Mobile USB Driver' folder to install the drivers every time it asks for a driver

install 20050816162417437_Image_Editor.exe
when u first run it after installing it, its gonna say offline
goto File > Setup and change Port to COM4

and when u press OK, it should start reading phonebooks, msgs, etc from the phone and shows SGH-P207 where it said offline b4

and to upload/download pics and vids, goto Tool > File Manager
u should be able to figure out how to download/upload pretty easily

i still cant figure out how to upload ringtones tho
but other than that, the rest works fine

if it doesnt work or have a question, leave a post

Posted by: stars-dust604

hi, i did as you said.....but still keep saying offline on my PIMS

Posted by: jongmin

try changing ports maybe COM2 or COM3 works for u

Posted by: ramsdaro

it should be.. cuz the driver i linked is for d500 and i know e530 uses the same driver as well

well thanks for all the hlep, its greatly appreciated

Posted by: stars-dust604

hi,

isnt working for any port....is keep sayin offline

man...is hate samsung

Posted by: Moderator HF 18

Don't blame Samsung for Microsoft Windows not recognizing the right drivers or the fact that anything else connected that has not gone through their testing is not guaranteed to work.

Normally rebooting the computer and disconnecting/reconnecting the data cable works eventually and Windows finally loads the drivers correctly. Even after I had almost given up, my USB cable finally got to work in Windows XP on my laptop.

I've found that even after you've gotten it to work, if you use the same USB port(s) for different devices, Windows has to re-assign another COM Port to it and will not automatically direct the software to that COM Port to use the correct drivers.

Posted by: jongmin

hmm if anyone managed to get it working following my instructions, can u leave a post??

if no ones able to get it, ill try to figure out some other way

Posted by: ramsdaro

after i extracted the usb driver.exe there wasnt to folders with those names.

Posted by: hprockets

it could possibly be your usb cable

i have 2 for samsung, they look and fit the same but only one of them works

on my P207 i use the data cable for D500. try another cable if windows still can't recognize your phone

Posted by: ramsdaro

i only have one cable

Posted by: ramsdaro

but that would be a file problem. anyways. when i try to use PC studio II PIMS and file manger i get an error saying " cannot read messages" and " cannot read messages" again. i am on port 3 since thats the only one that gives me any activity. i put my number as 7 digits not 10 but have tried 10 and it doesnt work. any ideas

Posted by: ramsdaro

i have tried to install the driver, however i can install the driver but windows wont do anything. it doesnt do all the other installs or w.e, how can i make windows recognize my device.

I'm stuck at that the same place. I can't find those folders when I extract and install the driver.

Posted by: Citrate

when i plug my p207 in with the usb cable i get a driver request for wmc acm 1.0app but it cant find the drivers, i also cant find any drivers for this, anyone have any idea where i can get them?

Posted by: dmartin@newarts

I've spent a lot of time on the phone with samsung and cingular techs and am pretty well convinced that there exist no drivers for communication with the P207 through its serial port.

Samsung says they don't have drivers for any P207 and Cingular says the same thing; they have sent me back and forth. I've tried hard and am now giving up.

Samsung says they make the SGH-p207 strictly for Cingular implying there's no chance that there's an existing software fix.

I got an unlock code by calling Cingular.

Dave

PS I like the p207 a lot. I'm sorry that I can't use it for tethering.

Posted by: Citrate

samsung customer support is utterly useless, i asked them why my oe samsung cables dont work with this phone, they told me to contact my service provider to purchase oe samsung accessories. IDIOTS!

Posted by: pepos123

Hi there,
I bought the USB data cable for P207 from Mobiles And PDAs on ebay. The cable seems fine, but I cannot get my WINXP computer to recognize the connection between it and the mobile phone.

I unzipped the D500 driver on the manufacturer's page (http://www.mobilesandpdas.com/downl...rial-Driver.zip) into a new folder on desktop which I named "USB Cable Driver". When I connect my phone to the computer, PC automatically detects cable, then I did as told: Select "Install the software automatically".

My computer tries to search for the driver install file, but then "Cannot find WMC ACM 1.0App", and thus I cannot install the driver.

I rebooted several times, though to no help. Getting very frustrated. Please tell me what to do. Thank you. >__<

Hi, I just bought this cable off ebay and screwed up my drivers...

I browsed through the default windows search online after it didn't recognize the device which used to be called "WMC ACM," after searching it changed to "Unknown Device"

Then I searched off my sellers site and it had all the info for it! http://www.mobilesandpdas.com/cables/
The thing is, I need "WMC ACM" to install my "CDMA drivers".

I can't seem to make "Unknown Device" go back to "WMC ACM" and my CDMA drivers won't install under the "Unknown Device"! Please help! I don't want to format just to get this thing working.

lol i bought the cable from the same seller. Luckily i dont own the phone, its for a friend. I have contacted the sellers many times regarding the issue of the problem, he seems helpful but it doesnt get anywhere.

well today, he email me another solution !!!

CAN ANYONE TRY IT AND TELL ME IF IT WORKS OR NOT ?

I WILL TRY IT ON THRUSDAY AT MY FRIEND'S HOUSE.

I assumed that u have to uninstall all the drivers, PIMS, software, make it like u install the drivers and programs for the first time.

HI Peter,

sorry about this. but good news.. got it figured out..

try this:

SAMSUNG P207 ONLY USB DRIVER & SOFWARE:

Use the driver at the bottom of this page and the PIMS software.

http://support.samsung.de/modelsele...ype=SW&language

* Connect the phone before starting
* run the setup.exe in 'Samsung CDMA USB Driver'
o This will create a device called 'WMC ACM 1.0 app', but no drivers for it
* run the setup.exe in 'Samsung Mobile USB Driver'
o This will run a number of things. At then end it works
* Use the PIMS from the same website that had the drivers

I got my phone connected, after a little trouble of course. Took me a while, but now things are working. I didnt check the last guys post, but if you install the proper USB drivers, and then get the software open, make sure you do try changing the port a few times first, since it had to be on port 4 i believe for me.

I can upload pictures to my photos, and then use those as wallpapers, but any picture you set as a wallpaper seems to go to 176x156 and keeps the white borders. I didnt find a way around this, even setting pictures to 160x160 gave me pictures that were 176x156.

There isn't a way to upload ringtones at all either, but maybe someone that knows how to hack these programs can do it, or we can wait and hope that Samsung will release an update.

Can somebody please help me!!!! I am getting really desperate. I recently purchased a SGH-p207 after my Moto Mpx 220 got water damage. Because of that I wasn't able to copy any of my contacts to the sim. Now I desperately need to sync my HUNDREDS of contacts. I have a aftermarket data cable and driver which seem to work OK, but I cannot get it to work with the Samsung PC Studio II PIMS & File Manager. I downloaded it right from the samsung site, and I set it up on the proper port but it always says Offline mode at the bottom of the window. I have SCOURED the web for the answer to this, and though I did find some posts with people with a similar problem, I couldn't find the answer anywhere. Could somebody help me please!!!! Thanks

I have followed the steps above, but when I download the driver from samsung there is no CDMA USB Driver folder, only a Samsung Mobile USB driver folder....

Posted by: DjToXX

Hey for those having problems where it says offline, make sure that u go into your settings and you select the right COM port, I had several diffrent ones in there like 1 through 5 or somethin, and i chose each one, and 1 turned out to work fine.

Posted by: nikkicola11

I have now purchased a second cable on Ebay, this time making sure I bought one specifically for the p207 and it still does not work!!! I followed all the seller's directions to the T and I have even gone into device properties-advanced and tried several different com ports. I am currently going back and forth with the seller....he swears that it worked on a p207 before he shipped it, so I will let everyone know if I get it worked out.

Posted by: trini03

hey can someone tlel me where i can download the usb driver for the p207 cant find it anywhere even on the samsung site...? thanks alot

Posted by: DjToXX

First download the USB Driver at the very bottom, when you plug in the cable, it will install 3 times to the pc, since the device is I guess considerd as 3 diff type of devices such as a modem etc.... Then download PIMS if you wanna send and receive pics vids and contacts.

http://support.samsung.de/modelsele...ype=SW&language

Posted by: techker

there is no folder usb???is there any updates on this tread?

Posted by: DjToXX

All i know is that theres no way you can send ringtones to your phone with this software, and everytime i try to upload a video it says, video format not supported, and ive tried everything from 3gp to you name it.

Posted by: weiweiwei

so p207 cable same as d500? i just bought a p207 cable to work on my dad's new rogers p207, but it hasn't arrived yet

Posted by: techker

it should be?but it is worthless if we can get it going??

Posted by: Lil630630

I have original Samsung Data Cable PCB113BEB, I downloaded software from Samsung website and I used the driver from their UK site. It installed my phone fine, but when I start the software it says that nothing is connected. It does not say offline if I set com port to 4, but it still says NOTHING. If I click on the phone book or SIM or phone memory, it says "can't read memory". Upload and download also does not work.

So after spending hours unproductively I finally called Samsuns support, and guess what? THE SOFTWARE ON THEIR WEB SITE DOES NOT FUNCTION WITH P207. IT IS FOR AN OLDER MODEL. THEY WILL NOT PUT UPDATED SOFTWARE ON THE WEB SITE, IT IS ONLY AVAILABLE ON CD... which is not available at all at this time since they are out of stock.

Thanks a lot, Samsung!

Posted by: weiweiwei

i got mine working
but there's no ring tone option
just videos/images and editing phonebook

Posted by: Lil630630

Well I have no idea what else to do. It just won't work on my computer with XP Pro. I had no problems with EasyGPRS and Samsung X427. I guess it will cost me 79.99 to connect my phone.

Posted by: video567

hi check this link http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...1&page=12&pp=15 a post made by me, it may help you set it up. all the info was gather though this site, but mine atleast now works for pic upload and download and also video

Posted by: Lil630630

Thanks Video567, but unfortunately nothing works for me. Oddly enough nobody else seems to have this "nothing" connected message, people mentioned only "offline" message which I get when I'm using the wrong port.

Posted by: video567

did you change ports and wait a minute or so once the phone and cable are connnected?

Posted by: BigMac82

I did this, and it worked in COM3 for me, except it said "Nothing" with the light on beside it instead of the phone name.

Posted by: trini03

still offline...

SOMEONE HELP MEEEE PLZZZ

i have a samsung sgh p207 cell and i jus bought a usb data cable and yes its not the original its generic or whatever but my PROBLEM is i cant get it to work!! i plugged it to my pc and my phone and the "new hardware found" thing popped up when i turned my pc on and i said yes to install it and it says tht its not working???? i downloaded the software from www.samsung.com like the guy said.....but now what?? its still not working...WHAT DO I DO??? he also said to check what port number its on...theres no number ther....and when i open the software its OFFLINE how do i get it to ONLINE......some plzz help mee!!

Posted by: Lil630630

... and you know what? It does not have anything except photo and video download option.

So... I did a clean install, first removing everything connected with Samsung from my computer and then I installed first the sofware I got on the cd (PC Data Link Kit) and then everthing else available from Samsung web site for P207. Now, interestingly enough, I have PIM working so I can synchronise phone book with the Outlook although Samsung tech support told me that can't be done

So there I am with the rest of you guys - everything works except ringtones upload/download.

If you figure that one out, please do tell!

Did i mention tech support told me that I would be able to do that if I buy the kit from them as opposed to downloading from their web site?

What a bunch of lies. What a pack of thieves. No more Cingular or Samsung for me in future
Well from the Samsung FAQ/Knowledge Base for the P207, it clearly states that you cannot sync the PIM between phone and computer. I ended up using EasyGPRS 2.1.8 to get my phonebook that I had backed up from my other Samsungs copied to my P207.

How Do I Use My Phone As A Modem Or Transfer Data Between My Phone And My Computer?

NOTE: This response applies specifically to the following list of phones: P207 (If your model is not listed here, please see the links below for instructions pertaining to your specific model.)

The SGH-p207 uses EasyStudio Data Kit part number is PKT435LBEG/STD and can be ordered through our Accessory Department. The Product ID of the USB cable included with the Easy Studio Data Kit is PCB113BEB (Not sold separately) should there be need to verify the cable.

EasyStudio which will allow for transfer of File Manager information such as Photos and Videos, but does not support the transfer of Personal Information Manager data (PIM data) between the phone and PC.

You can view the full line of genuine Samsung accessories for your phone through the Samsung Accessories website or can be ordered by phone through the Accessory Department by dialing toll free 1-800-SAMSUNG (1-800-726-7864) choose options
The Easy Studio software from the other Samsung websites cannot even be used with the P207 as they don't have the correct drivers for the USB data cable. It's only found on the CD-Rom that comes with the OEM P207 data cable. I tried to use the other Samsung software from the other world websites and they don't work properly with the P207. In fact one of them asks for a Password to access the phone, but still doesn't show any folders to upload/download from due to it isn't suppose to be accessed.

My guess is Cingular had Samsung lock out them so that the customer would only get the data cable and software from them.

Got to hand it to Samsung for making their phones hard to hack, unlike Motorola whose phones can be by any teenager with easily available software and guides to do it.

The OEM one with the Data Switch will not work with the P207. I know as I have it for my other Samsungs that use it and it will not work with the P207. Even with the drivers that came with the File Manager CD-Rom for the P207, as the drivers are for the OEM USB data cable the P207 uses which is the same one for the D500/D600 PCB113BSE. The OEM Data cable with the data switch is a Serial COM port connector not a Universal Serial Bus (USB) connector.

How many new threads are you going to make? There is a thread already for the P207 and the USB Data cable problems for you to post in and or read about in the FAQ Section. In fact there are two of them to read about the problems with the P207 and the crippled firmware and the fact that the USB Data cable from Samsung is the only one to really work if at all.

Hey guys,
Putting the mp3 files in wav.rousso.net in the file cabinet and downloading them through your cellphone browser works!
I edited a short 131kb mp3 file and uploaded it into the wav.rousso.net cabinet and used my p207 browser to log into my rousso account, went into file cabinet and chose the file I wanted.

I have the same problem as most of the people here. All I want is to access the pictures but I keep getting offline whenever I try connecting. There are only two accessible ports on my PC and they are COM1 and COM4. And when I try connecting to Samsung PC Studio II, it never works. Keeps saying I'm offline.

Can someone be kind enough to provide me with some information on how to fix this?

Posted by: weiweiwei

are you guys installing the modem driver correctly? my p207 shows as Samsung Mobile USB Modem II 1.0 with correct drivers

if you right click on the modem and go to properties or somewhere like that it will show you what COM it is on

OEM Data cable yes, as long as the P207 USB driver(s) are installed. PC Studio 3 software no.

Hello, guys!

i know this thread hasn't been active for a while but obviously samsung hasn't resolve the "WMC ACM 1.0 App" problem.
i have been offered a P310 and i have tried everything under the sun to connect it on my PC, even paying a fee of $35 to a website saying that they had it, LIARS!!
i have tried the latest PC studio downloaded from Samsung, pc studio 2 and lately the softwares provided with the brand new G600. No Luck!!

i still want to save my pictures from my phone. the USB cable was provided with the phone.
if anyone can help, it would be much appreciated!

Many thanks
