BST Forum Rules/About Bumping/Currency and Tips for a SAFER transaction

By using this free service you recognize that HowardChui.com can in no way be held liable for the accuracy of statements made by users of the service, or any claims arising from transactions made by users of the service.

THE RULES

1. No Dealers. Dealers use the Market Place Forum! A dealer is defined as anyone who is selling more than five (5) pieces of the same product, be it clothing, computer related items, car parts/accessories, etc. For cell phones, you are allowed to sell two (2) brand new ones or five (5) used phones within a 30-day period. A dealer is anyone who buys to sell. If you wish to advertise your products, please contact Howard by Private Message (PM).

2. No selling of goods on behalf of other people. If they can't sell it themselves that's their own problem, don't make it yours.

3. All items MUST have an asking price and a currency, this is not an auction site. Threads without this information will be removed without prior warning. Prices must be absolute. Please do not post price ranges. Price must appear within the post itself.

4. Remember, there are members from all over the world here so remember to specify the currency along with the price regardless of your location.

5. Links to eBay or eBay starting bids are not permitted. These will be removed by a moderator.

6. No illegal software (this includes backup copies, bootleg/pirated software, games)

7. No guns or weapons. That includes mace, pepper spray, or stun guns. No alcoholic beverages may be bought or sold.

8. No pornographic or sexually explicit items

9. No fake goods (Rolex watches, clothes, purses, leather goods etc.)

10. No thread crapping, if you think something is overpriced the seller will usually figure this out pretty quickly. PM him/her if you have a comment.

11. No thread-jacking. (when someone posts a FS/WTB/FT thread and you post 'me too!')

12. Polls are not allowed in any of the B/S/T Forums. These will be removed promptly, as well as opinion and any kind of chat.

13. Double posting is not allowed. Once you've posted in the BST forum, you are not allowed to post another one for the same item in the Lounge or anywhere else including the B/S/T section until the original thread is removed.

14. Always bump or reply to an existing thread you have created instead of creating a new one for the same item. You may bump your thread every 48 hours. Creating new threads for the same item is not permitted.

15. Offering services is not allowed (for instance, unlocking services for cell phones, XBox modding, computer troubleshooting, Internet hosting, etc.)

16. If and when you sell your item(s) please notify a moderator by PM or by clicking the Report This Post to a Moderator so the mods can close your thread and move it into the archive promptly. This way you won't get more PMs asking if what you are selling is still available, and you won't clog the forum with unnecessary posts. Under no circumstances may anybody but the seller post an item as "Sold". Any reply to a post saying "Sold" from anyone but the seller, creates a hijacked thread. The bump will be removed and the item wlll remain for sale on the forum.

17. Whenever possible, please combine similar items for sale in one thread (if you have 5 different things to sell/buy/WTB at once, don't post 5 different threads). We will merge threads that are posted at the same time. Members who persist in one-time multiple posting will face bans. Members are requested to limit the number of active posts at any given time. Moderators reserve the right to determine if a member has too many active threads, and will take action to reduce threads and limit posting.

18. Remember, you have a period of two (2) hours to make changes to your thread. After the two-hour mark, you may contact a moderator to edit the thread on your behalf.

19. Please indicate your location in the heading of the thread when you are buying/selling/trading on the forum (this makes everything so much easier)

20. Remember to always leave a feedback message after a transaction (for items above $2). By transaction, we mean an exchange of goods for money or for other goods. If a sale/exchange did not take place, and there wasn't any sale done, then you don't have the right to leave him/her a negative feedback.

21. If you are found to be engaged in any fraudulent activity, you will be put on the 'Fraud User List' and banned.

22. If possible try to make your buy/sell/trade post subject look something like this:
state if it is FS/FT/WTB
describe the product
state the price with currency (if it's a FS ad)
state the location

23. Selling tickets to any major league sporting event is not permitted. Scalping is an illegal activity and Howard Forums would be liable for any damages sought in a case involving the resale of tickets.

ABOUT BUMPING

1. Any type of reply to a thread is considered a bump. If you want to make any changes (price change, additional info), you have to wait two full days before you are permitted to reply to your own post. The system is setup to permit bumps every 48 hours, no less.

2. It's understandable that everyone wants to sell their stuff sooner than later, but we believe in giving everyone a fair chance in getting equal exposure for their threads. Bumping for a good friend, great phone, great seller is no longer allowed! It will just make the thread longer and longer. Besides, you don't even know if their item is still for sale/trade. This kind of bumping isn't really necessary; it will result in a ban. Bumping of this kind also prevents the seller from making adjustments to his/her own thread for another 48 hours.

3. When people say, PM replied or email sent. That's is also considered a bump. It's not necessary to post something like that because the person who got the PM/email will receive a notification anyway. PM's are instant.

4. If someone wants to reply to a thread, it should be made in the form of a PM. Only the original poster may reply to his/her own thread. Mods don't accept anything more than allowing the original poster to bump his/her thread every 2-3 days. If a potential buyer or seller wants to contact the person who started the thread, send a PM.

5. Again, creating new threads for the same item within 48 hours is not any different from bumping within 48 hours. These new threads will be removed and repeat offenders will be banned for a period of time.

*Bumping is a zero tolerance issue. Thread bumpers will be banned for a minimum of 48 hours.

TIPS FOR A SAFE TRANSACTION

1. BUYER BEWARE! Whenever possible try to make the deal in person unless you are dealing with a highly reputable member; fraudulent activities involving shipping have been on the rise.

2. If you decide to conduct the transaction over the internet try to cover yourself. Keep track of ALL correspondence!

3. Buyers MUST keep a record of their payment whether it's a copy of a money order or a paypal email (Save the original email along with all of it's headers). Make sure it has the seller's name on it.
Sellers MUST USE a traceable method of shipment and remember to write the buyer's address on it. This usually only costs a few bucks extra.

4. Stay away from sellers requesting payments through Western Union. You do not get any form of protection from them if you've been defrauded.

5. If you're using Paypal only accept money from verified buyers, if you're selling accept from verified sellers.

6. Whenever dealing in person, always check the bills to make sure they are real. For tips on this, please see:
Canadian Dollars
United States Dollars

7. And remember...if something sounds too good to be true it probably is.

PRICE/CURRENCY

1. It is essential that all selling posts indicate price and currency. We are seeing more and more threads with no price, or with links to other sites like eBay, where prices are posted. Price and currency must be indicated within your selling post. This is not a bidding site. Threads with Ebay links will be removed.

2. We don't always know where you are located. We don't always know which currency you prefer for your transactions.

3. HoFo rules have always required that you state a currency in your B/S/T posts when selling. Unfortunately, a lot of sellers are still not posting currency.

4. Currency has to be included in a selling post. If it's Canadian you can show it as CAD. If it's US, USD. If it's British pounds use your British keyboard to indicate the pound sign. Don't assume that people in Texas, or BC know that the letters GTA mean Toronto, or that people outside of NYC know where Bensonhurst is.

5. Please include price and currency in all selling posts from now on. We have been sending friendly PM reminders, but from now on we will remove all threads that don't indicate a price and currency.

*These rules are subject to change as needed. If there's a reasonable rule you think makes sense and has to be added here, please feel free to send a PM to any of the moderators.

*MODERATORS are here to assist you and make using the B/S/T as safe and pleasant as possible. You may disagree with decisions made by moderators, but flaming moderators in posts or in PM's is not permitted. Members who flame moderators, swear at moderators, or post threads critical of moderators will be banned from the forum.

*Threads may be moved, removed or edited without notification.
