My question is what program should i use to encode files like avi's to fit my treo 650? What specs are needed so that a movie file can be played on the treo?

I use TCPMP to watch the videos and encode the videos with this: http://divx.ppccool.com/ , The pockedDivXencoder. There's a free version and a pay version, the free version is the older version and the pay is the newest version. I use the free version and the audio sometimes gets just a bit out of sync, but not bad for just catching up on Smallville & BSG or for my kids to watch Spongebob videos on when we need something to keep them from getting bored like when waiting for mom at the store or when we have to go to the Dr's office and wait for 45 minutes past our appointment time
... this has saved the day many times.

Ps......
I just use the regular Cell phone option 220x176 deminsions and it works fine, but you can always play around with different settings and find what works best for you.

If you don't mind playing...get Kinoma Producer EX. It is top notch. An all in one, do everything with 1 click type program.....works flawlessly. Google it to find it.

I think i'm going to buy that program. so it does everything? like convert it and such?

Yea....it will read, convert, and then auto copy it over via hotsync, or it will auto drop the file onto your sd card. Then you can get TCPMP movie player (free) to watch your vids. The program will convert full movies down to about 200mb...i can get 5 on a 1gb sd card. Word.
