Maybe I can: Bought my first S40 on February 20th with 2.3.0 (more alpha than beta), now 4.0.0 (quite stable), soon 5.0.0 (?).

I've had my s40 for only 4 months... and I think its time to change

I bought a Nokia 8250 in March, swapped it for a S40 in April. Orignial SW was 2.8.0 but since then upgraded to 2.9.0, 3.2.0, and lately 4.0.0 (perhaps even 5.0.0?). Very tempted to change to Ericsson T68, cos Siemens is unlikely to develop the S40 further to keep up with the latest tech trend. My $ will NEVER go to any other existing Siemens phones.

The latest price for S40 in LA is US$99 or free if upgrade/new line.

it seems like a good deal....i wonder if they have that kind of deal in San Jose, CA....hey Cake , u got both the 8290 and S40... which one do u think is better? Thanks in advance

I like 8290 a lot more than the S40. However, 8290 has a very serious problem: The LCD screen will go dead after using for awhile (even after RMA, my new 8290's LCD screen still goes dead after 3 months).

8290's sound quality and reception is a lot better than the S40. Plus, the phone is lighter and smaller. Also, the menu system is more user friendly than the S40.

I'm looking for a new phone now, but there is only a few choice for Cingular. I'm thinking to get the Handspring Treo to replace my Palm Vx and S40 when the device is available.

I haven't had any problems with the S40 in terms of reception/signal strength. In parts of the house, Nokia phonestend to have extremely low signal or none at all. I havne't lost signal with the S40 yet. Maybe I'm just lucky?

As for being out of date -- if you're just pointing it out now, you're rather slow. We've seen that for years now as North America gets the phones about a year behind Europe/Asia... often lacking models and phone features (atleast for Nokia models).

I wonder how many people use S40 in north america.
since I got my siemen (feb 2001), I only saw one guy in town actually use it.

I don't see many people posting here, that's why I retired from this forum.

I still have some plastic covers in my house for S40...if anyone want to pick one up...just send a buck or two cash, and will shipped to your house...
