Fade out issue with S66

I've had my Cingular-branded S66 for two weeks now and really love it except for one big issue. During phone conversations, the person on the other end will fade out til the voice is silent. Initially I mistook that as the call being dropped. After a moment or two, the other person's voice will come in bright and clear, continuing their sentence as if nothing happened. They do not know that they have faded out. During this fade out, if I say something, the other person is not able to hear me. When the voice comes back full and clear, they are able to hear me.
Has anyone else had this issue as well? Any fixes? My phone is locked to Cingular, but I was thinking about unlocking it, then upgrading the firmware with the S65 firmware available on the Siemens site. I hope that would fix my issue, but I haven't really come across large volumes of people with the same issue (or fix).
I read in another thread that someone had called Cingular but then was re-directed to Siemens. When they had contacted Siemens, the customer service person indicated that there was a software problem with the S66. BUT, in this same thread, it was not indicated WHAT the software problem was or what symptoms were experienced. I wonder if my issue is attributed to this software problem.

I'm thinking it's just a temporary loss of signal. All the Siemens phones I've had/played with can reconnect to a nearly dropped call if the signal increases enough. Do you hear 3 beeps before their voice comes back in?

I don't believe that it is a loss of signal. I could understand that occurring if I am moving around the house or travelling in a vehicle. This occurs frequently when I am simply stationary. For instance, I was on the phone with my dad earlier this evening for some 30+ minutes. I sat at my desk (I typically get 3 bars in my office), and the fade-out occurred a number of times. I did not hear any beeps.
I also have an old S55 as a backup phone... I may do some testing, and try that for a day and see if that makes a difference. I can't say that I've had this problem with my C56.
