hey guys, just wondering what is the different b/w the jap and UK version?
as well, i'm wondering if it's true that the 903 can only play 30seconds of a song?

Posted by: mroach

I think it's the UK version that has the length restriction.

Posted by: wikka

903 doesn't have mp3 capabilities IIRC, it plays ACC

Posted by: aznboix

in other words, both version Jap and UK only play AAC right? and the UK version is limited to 30sec right? and the Jap can play the whole sound track?

Posted by: jtcb

I think it is not true. Every version can play mp3 execpt the Japanese version. That's why I'll be getting the UK version.

Posted by: totaltoanage

30 restriction is on ringtone not media player. ACC for jap regular for UK.

Posted by: junz

I don't think it's 30 sec limit, it's 300k file size limit, right?

Posted by: mavericke

Well,I've managed to play my mp3s! I don't think there's any restrictions...

Posted by: jtcb

You can definitely play mp3 in the hk and uk version. What we are not sure is whether there is a 30sec limit when using mp3 as a ringtone.

Posted by: aznboix

oh man...i'm so confused! everyone says differently. so there is no restriction on playback? and ALL version only read .AAC right?

Posted by: ming288

aznboix, HK (SX833) and UK (903) versions can play MP3 and use MP3 as ringtone. 903SH is Japanese version which cannot play MP3 directly but an alternative format, ACC.

All the three versions can play the whole song with the media player without any problem but there's a limitation in ringtone duration. I'm using a 903SH which has a 30 sec limitation in ringtone duration.

How do you cut mp3 to 30 seconds or does it automatically stop at 30sec?

Posted by: ming288

I cut mp3 to my favourite by using the software "mp3DirectCut".
(link: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4668.html).

The part of mp3 I'm using as ringtone is 20 sec; then it repeats and stops at around 30 sec.

I also used another method (divert to voice mail) that some other people used to test if the ringtone can set over 30 sec. I type in **61*138**30#, **61*138**31#, and so on to check, only setting 30 max as the last number works (i.e. divert to voice mail after ringing for 30 sec).

Link doesn't work.

Don't know why the link doesn't work; but if you type in the address, you'll get there.

Thanks aznboix..

hurm..for the ringtones..i guess theres no limitation on japs 903sh..because im using up to 60 sec..and the file size is around 700+ kb..dunno bout others..

Posted by: ming288

How do you set the ringtone up to 60 sec as I can't do it even after I deactivated the voice mail service?

Posted by: jtcb

If I cut mp3 to 30sec in order to use it as ringtone, is that mean I have to save another file of the same mp3 in full length in order to play it in media player? That's a waste of memory..

Posted by: ming288

jtcb, in theory, you don't have to cut mp3 to 30 sec, you can use the same full length song as ringtone but the phone will automatically stop at 30 sec in my case (Five o said he can play 60). I cut it to 30 sec as I only want to play the chorus part as my ringtone. Besides, the most important thing is my 903 only allows songs in the handset to be set as ringtone. For me, it's a kind of memory waste to put the song in full length in the handset as I got only 8 mb memory in the handset in total .

Really? 8mb can be used up easily with full length. Even the lowest 128k bit is 2mb. I want to set different mp3 to different contact#..

Posted by: totaltoanage

why the hell you would want an entire song for a ringtone, most providers only let <30 seconds then it goes to answering machine. Also a 30 128 bitrate is only 400kb. like i said, only games and ringtones use the internal memory.

Posted by: ming288

jtcb, I use different ringtones for different contacts too; that's why I cut ringtones to 30 secs. 5 different ringtones in 30 sec used up only about 1.5 mb of my memory. I reserve the remaining handset memory to my game applications. I put all my mp4 songs in mini-sd card.

sorry guys, total n00b question here, it seems like some of u guys have successfully made .aac files into ringtones. How do i do that as, it just doesn't give me the option to do so when im playing or on that particular file. I tried to do a search on the sharp forums however was unsuccessful at finding it. Can someone please explain to me how this can be done? Your help is greatly appreciated, please guys, help me out as i'm dying here with just mmf files

Posted by: JSCL

yeah i've got problems too...

i cut the mp3 to less than 30 seconds, converted to aac with itunes and moved it into internal memory but still get the message "Cannot assign. Due to illegal file" when I try to assign it as a ringtone...

any help would be greatly appreciated...btw I've got the jp version.
