This may have already been answered if so I apologize. Has anyone that has the 7520 that upgraded to the 7100i attempted to use another phone such as the 930. If so were you able to receive the MMS messages, because when I called in to cust. care, they told me that the BB data plan now includes MMS messaging for the release of the 7100i, if this is the case we should be able to take the sim out of the 7100i and use in the 930 w/o any troubles with messaging.

Maybe I'm a little sleep deprived right now, but what are you attempting to say. I know what the blackberry data plans include, however that has nothing to do with MMS which the 7100i can do, it only includes SMS messages.

even when someone sends me a regular sms it comes thru as an MMS so will i be charged for sms or mms?

Wirelessly posted (Blackberry 7520.|: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry7100i/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/103)

Your blackberry can only receive sms...text only. It is capable of sending MMS, which can be text, pictures, sounds, etc. Two different formats, of which the blackberry is only capable of receiving one--sms.

But I thought that the 7100i can send and receive MMS messages?

Posted by: martin_j001

I had heard before that it is only capable or receiving SMS, but I could be wrong. Looking at Nextel's site, it does look as if it should be able to receive MMS as well.... If someone would like to test it out with me let me know--PM or PIN me....

so i can recieve sms but only send back as mms even if it dosent have pics or anything like that attached? am i getting this right?

Yes, I know for a fact that the 7100 will only send out MMS, as I have tried sending out text only messages to my wife's i830 and she was not able to view the message.

Thanks Martin you are always very helpful. I'm just patiently waiting for a solution to the wav ringtone issue

So we shall see about this 7100. Cause now I'm debating about if I'm going to add some kind of sms or mms plan

Probably a good idea if you plan to use messaging a lot. Keep in mind though that even addition of an sms plan won't allow you to send out sms....

So on the 7100 you have to add an additional MMS plan correct? If this is the case then you should be able to swap sims between any other phone that has MMS enabled and send MMS messages without a problem. Before if you had a MMS package and a BB data plan one of them would not work. Am I correct in my assumption?

From what I've heard 'round the campfire ( ), it appears as though our blackberry data plans include 100 MMS messages--but don't quote me on that, I'm waiting for my bill to show up to see what its all about (one user quoted their bill with updated services that included 100MMS messages). Its still somewhat unclear as to how many SMS you can receive with the bb data plans, some signs point to unlimited. As far as pulling your 7100i sim and using it in a different phone, I think you're right on veronica--we now should be able to use MMS features of other phones without a problem (at least that would make sense)....
