What does the engadget home page have to do with the death of the Palm OS?

Posted by: xynos

Engadget either recind the news or they were hacked. The article stated on how they offically confirmed with Access that there will not be any further developments on the Palm OS.

Added: PDA247 has the dead not dead article on its front page:

I'm sorry, but I highly doubt we will see the Palm OS dying anytime soon. I think we'll be just fine. The Palm OS, even if it runs on a Linux based system and still looks and feels just like the Palm OS, I'll be happy. The look, feel and simplicity is what has me sold on Palms, and it always will.

The Palm OS may not be dead anytime soon, but does anyone think we will see any new Palm based smartphones? I guess I need to figure out if WM5 or Symbian is in my future. I have had a device that runs each (PDA2K and SE910a), and both times I went back to my Palm based Treo.

Be sure to look at the BB as an option too. It has come a long way over the years - check out the Rejhon FAQ's...they're great!

BB wont work for me. The most important application I run on my Treo is a 5250 terminal emulator that I use to connect to the IBM iSeries (AS400) at my office. This is totally mission critical for me. As far as I can tell, there is not way too load any 3rd party software on the BB and I can not find any software to accomplish this. I had a very hard time finding a TN5250 emulator that ran under Symbian. While I liked the stability of Symbian, I think eventually I will have to move to WM5 or beyond.
