After doing some research on howardforums I came to these conclusions and was hoping someone can confirm..

1. only the UK and sx813 firmware supports mp3 playback.
2. All 3 firmwares UK, sx813, JPN, supports mp3 ringtones (less than 30 sec), and only the JPN version requires drm?
3. If the JPN 902 is to be flashed with a different firmware, does it mean the processing time of the phone would be alot slower? eg. picture saving time, etc

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Also I've heard that the sx813 is not compatible with the 3g network, is this true? Which firmware is the most stable out there right now? I do prefer a firmware with chinese input (sx813) but I can live without it...

1. correct, but the JP firmware does too, you just need them to be DRM protect through the panasonic card reader (don't bother actually)
2. they all support mp3 ringtone however, like the JP firmware they need to be DRM protected(all three versions). But you can just convert mp3 files to MMF, they sound the same. the 30 second limit still there.
3. i owned a 902 for a while and i saw no difference between HK/ferrari firmware. both took about 5 seconds to save a picture at highest quality/size.

i say the most stable is sx813. next to that is the ferrari, the only problem with ferrari is it lacks chinese input, the sent sms are never saved to the sent box and WAP doesn't work, but the ferrari is more fun ^^. 3G worked for a friend when she was in HK with a jp 902sh flashed to sx813. hopes this helps!

One other question tho, what about the UK firmware? Also do people u know of still flash firmwares? say UK -> sx813 (say in Taiwan? HK? States?) Also how stable is the UK version compared to the JPN and sx813?

And..

Now I know the JPN 902 requires drm for mp3 playbak, does the UK and sx813 version also require your mp3s to have drm in order for them to be played on the fone?

the uk and hk version can play mp3 as it is without converting to Sd Audio like the jap version

I have 902 UK version and I can say that this firmware is rock stable. No problems so far.
Why some users say that SX813 soft is more stable? In which case? Can`t say anything bad about this phone firmware (except lack of some features) beacuse it never hangs. I used this phone in 3G (UK) and 2,5G (GSM - Poland) and never had any problems.
What are the typical problems with UK firmware (if they occur) that don`t exist in SX813 firmware?

I have 902SH from Japan and i don't know what FM ver. is there.
I can not load MP3s to my SD ((

You can`t play mp3`s on your 902 because it has japanese software and has restriction`s to DRM mp3`s only. Code for checking firmware version is not working on UK/euro 902`s.

i have the same version 1.40H mine plays mp3s fine... download switch mp3 converter or dbpower amp convert all ur mp3s to LAME MP3s then put them in ur sounds & ringtones folder then go on file manager or media player then u got it! (bit rate of mine is 96)

where do i get mmf converters? can u recommend the free ones... pls

My V902SH (Euro) is flashed to SX813.
Before GPRS, UMTS didn't worked, now work fine.
Only problem when saving pictures, takes 12 seconds (before 5 sec.)
With SX813 firmware you can go directly to you home page, 902 can't go directly to your home page, because have VODAFONE LIVE, SX813 have BROWSER "button.

But you can... just go to: my items - bookmarks - options - new - ad you're own. Then just go to your bookmarks and start from there. That's what I do

Not as easy as just put it as a start page, but I rather have it like this then to have to wait 12secs everytime I take a pic... I still have my 902 original firmware (euro 902, I guess), and both gprs and umts work just fine. mp3 is also unlocked as music player, (have to use mmf for ringtones)...
