The 903 is gonna be available in Australia in a week, if you feel like driving down to Sydney to grab it from a VF store there

do you know how much it will be?

Posted by: AL9999

Well I don't suggest you buy it outright, because it's going to be AU$1200 RRP. I don't know what Vodafone were thinking when they set this price, honestly.

But they are going to revive contracts with 3G, so it may turn out cheaper to do it that way. The phone still works on the GSM network, so I don't see why you can't take a contract with the phone and just use it on GSM in QLD (although you can't use the 3G features and all that...).

Are you sure they'll be out next week?
'coz at first (maybe last year), they said they'll roll out the 3G in June-July '05...
Then, they delayed and said it'll be in October... but now it's almost at the end of the month, and still not out yet...
I've been selected to do a trial 3G with Vodafone in Sept for a week (should've been in August, again... delayed delayed and delayed...)
And kept waiting for this damn thing to come out...

It'll definitely be out Nov 1st. They announced Oct 31st (in order to still be launching in October like they said), but because that's a Sunday it will be Nov 1st ultimately.

It will definitely be out that day. They're doing this VIP 'thank-you' promotion for long-time subscribers (who pay normally, not on call caps) who get phones for nearly half price in some cases, and on this promotion it says the 3G phones will be out on the 1st. The 903 was included in the list.

So we'll see what happens.

say i dont want to get one from voda australia, as i dont want to wait till they come out in qld, what version should i get, and where would the cheapest be?

Posted by: AL9999

The cheapest one is the JP version, but it has glitches related to its unlocking at the moment. They can be lived with though. Also no MP3 support on the JP version (although you can convert them to AAC files to play them, but no ringtone support).

The most functional one is the EU version, if you get VF's settings for that you should be able to use the Aussie Vodafone live! with it. Also MP3 files and MP3 ringtones work without a problem.

Otherwise, the phone will be out in QLD from March next year.

Isn't it monday on 31st?

Posted by: AL9999

Haha it is too. Dunno why I thought it was a Sunday...

Having said that, the website I was referring to still says Nov 1st though. Ah well...

Posted by: dav34

Which website are you referring to?
I often check on vodafone.com.au, but they ain't saying anything about it...

Posted by: AL9999

It's at www.vodafone.com.au/delight, but you need to enter a password to get to it and I don't want to list it... I'll screenshot the website and post here, give me a second.

Here you go:

How long have you been with Vodafone?
And how people can qualify with the loyalty price?
A year ago, I got a loyalty discount for getting a new cell phone...
And this year, I got free 6 month magazine subscription...
Did you get all this too?

i assume you will be upgrading to a new 3g phone with those deals? they are incredible. i want

They're actually not for me... my dad got the SMS with the password to access those deals, and unfortunately he probably won't get a 903, hehe.

I'm on $49 call cap on prepaid, and have been for the last year, and I got no SMS at all (Voda seems to be offering three different loyalty rates from what I've been able to learn). So it looks like Voda isn't sending anyone on call caps these rates.

How long has your dad been with Vodafone then?
I've been with Vodafone back in 2000... but unfortunately I started with pre-paid and changed my number (now it's gone )...

Then in 2003, I subcribed with a plan (don't remember the name) which got free calls at night after 7pm to other vodafone number for 10 mins each call... then I gave the number to my bro and changed to his name...
Btw, with this subcription, I got loyalty discount last year for a couple of hundred dollars...

Anyway, then afterwards I subscribed with 60 option plan or something... until now... and I got the free magazine subcription last month... plus they asked me to do 3G trial... (maybe random though)...

Do they classify a loyal customer as in how long you've been with vodafone, or how long you've been subscribed to a plan?

Btw, aren't you gonna get 903? Ask your dad to get it for you...

EDIT: I assume the handsets won't be locked, right?

I've been with Voda since Feb 2004 I think, can't remember exactly but from around then. Dad went with them from mid 2004 with a second phone number (his primary one is with Optus, he started with them when One.Tel went down). He's been doing $100 prepaid recharges from beginning of this year though, so I think that's why they like him as a customer, compared to me doing $49 recharges and using $230 credit, heh heh.

I would say they classify you depending on your usage, and that they like you if you don't use cap plans. I'd guess you'd have to be with them at least a year before they consider you for loyalty bonuses though. Only my guess.

Nah dad will get the V1050 I think. Half decent phone for only $200, so it's quite attractive to him. I might see what contract plans VF offer for the 903 next week.

I would think the handsets will be locked if sold on contract, and unlocked if sold outright or with the mobile payment plan. Again, just guessing though, not quite sure.

I think you're right...
Back in those days, I used quite a lot when they gave me the loyalty discount...
Lately, I'm trying to save money... so I didn't use a lot... plus they gave me $150 for 2 months as a way of saying thanks for participating on the 3G trial...

But interestingly enough, they encouraged me a COUPLE of times to change my plan to the capped ones... I think they're trying get rid of the old plans... 'coz they're losing money...??? :P
But I refused... 'coz the capped plans doesn't include international call fully... and most of my calls are international calls... :S

Anyway, see how it goes next week...
