Also, I had a chance to play around with one yesterday and walked away impressed with this phone. The following pics and vid are poor quality but it was on the fly so its possibly better than nothing, but it did shed some light on some things that I didnt know before. I think I like the new buttons even though they look chinsy at least they are raised somewhat unlike the boderline sunken in s710 buttons.

One thing to notice here, its smaller, smaller than I thought it would be. I think the other thing that I noticed, and this may or may not be the case, is that the w6001 screen is not as bright or as crisp as the s710a. I dont know if that has to do with the size or what but its almost like it has the hazy feel of the z500 and the color count of the s710a.

So this is the walkman software and branding. I personally found it just as easy to get through as the ROKR, but with obvious advantages of having the freedom to do stuff yourself without going through iTunes (thats another discussion). This is what I took from the UI and playing with the menu...SPEED and O man where has this firmware version been for the s710a. The animanion is so smooth, no delay or lag and I was going through stuff pretty fast. If anyone in here has complaints of the menu speed of the S710a your prayers have been answered with this phone, as there was absouletly none whatsoever.

Maybe I just missed this is the specs, but it has user changeable covers, which is cool. Pop's off with ease and the SE rep said that the Cingular version will come with a dark blue facepalte as well (notice the jack logo on the media button). Also, notice the buttons on the top corners of the phone, those are so you can hold the phone in landscape mode and play games on it, which I thought was a really cool idea.

Sorry I didnt notice it was still locked guys....my bad.

Well, any other sightings and what not lets post them.

Posted by: Marcster

No sightings here, but I'm THRILLED to see this "pre-release" announcement. Means the real deal is just around the corner. I think this one is going to be the one for me & be all the ROKR should've been. Yes, the ROKR has 512 MB, but the w600i has 2.0 USB transfer. I'd rather swap my music out often, thanks (and enjoy that 1.3 MP camera).

Posted by: persianpunisher

NO offense to anyone here, but I dont think we will see this phone anytime before the holidays. The S710 is still selling like mad, and from what I have read on a number of other places, Cingular is still tentative about getting this phone. It looks great though.

Posted by: .7

It could be delayed, but with all do respect I know it will be released. Theres no way SE would have been running this contest for the last 2 months if it wasnt. The SE reps say its in stone, but I guess no one will know until its in stores.

Posted by: randomtask77

I've read that the unbranded version might start selling as soon as this coming Monday. Though I'm not crazy about it's initial selling price at nearly $400USD.

Hopefully the price drops like a rock when the holidays come around or when Cingular releases their version.

So does this phone not have a slot for Duo Pro mem cards? I don't understand why sony would leave that out.

the w900 has one.... can't make the cheaper model to good, or no one will pony up the cash for the expensive model.

that's very true. this is Sony Ericsson's way of selling a mid range phone (though to some, and honestly me, a high end phone) with some cool features, like mp3 capability, 1.3 mgpx camera and so on. i think this phone is going to be awesome and i can't wait for it. the only thing i dont like about it is the antenna loop on the top, but i guess it gives it better rf

Is the W900/W800 available for Cingular?

No, it doesn't have 850.

I wouldn't say the "hoop" gives it better RF. It is an impressive little unit though.

Posted by: daftgem

The branding looks minimal, which is what i like to see.

I for one am very excited about this phone

No, you've got it wrong... It's all about the aerodynamics! Check this out, it's even the right color!

Your pics look better than whats on Ebay. They have a couple of W600.

I Think we get both. I heard awhile ago that it might ship with two covers which would be real genrous. So it might not happen it

If it goes from the 150-250 price range i think it will be a hit. Cant wait to get my blue version.

Posted by: chrisoaf

No memory card slot was a mistake if they aren't planning on releasing the higher-end phone in the US. That's the only thing keeping me from getting this.

Posted by: dragonx6x

Not a mistake imo. It actually makes alot of sense. This isnt suppose to be a high end phone, it was labeled as middle. Now the can market the w900 as high end and throw in the memory slot.

Memory slot would of jacked up the price like the s710, which still hasent seen a decent price drop.

What are everyone's predictions on the price of this W600, and how it will effect the S710a?

I just replaced my Razr through warranty (contracted the buzzing in the earpiece). The new one came in, but I'm leaving it in all its packaging, in case I want to sell it.

I'd be happy with either the W600 or the S710a, I'm just hoping either the W600 is fairly cheap, or the S710a's price drops like a rock.

Posted by: dragonx6x

^They will probally be the same price initially. But i expect the w600 price to be lower eventually, thats what im hoping for. The s710 will probally be discontinued after like january so i dont expect to see it for to much longer. Go for the w600 if you plan on getting around release. Like i said there probally gonna be the same price at first.

Posted by: MrH42

Right now the S710a is $300 with contract, with a $100 mail-in-rebate. I'm not too sure about what the price of S710a's are going for on ebay without a contract though.

A new Razr will only fetch $225 or so though, and I don't really want to spend more than an extra $50.

I'm guessing the W600 will be $350 without a contract or so. I guess I'll just have to wait for it to go down in price.

linky

thanks goes to "treatz" for writing up the review and for posting some pretty cool pics.

Now if they would price the W600 for $199. Then drop the s710a to $99. That would be nice.

Posted by: dragonx6x

^Sony would smash the competiton come winter if that was true.

Im still hoping for that 199.99 price tag though.

Posted by: lindseybp

If it was $199 they would have trouble keeping this thing in stock! My guess is $299.

Posted by: mc87243

Nice phone I just cant wait till it comes out for cingular.

If they did that, the average consumer (i.e. non-HoFoer) would buy the ROKR thinking that it must be better, since it has more memory than the w600i.

I'm thinking $250.00 is going to be the price.

RF
Being a beta unit i wasn't very harsh on this unit.
however, i'm quite happy to report it works well and didn't disappoint me
I am looking forward to the retail unit

how can one submit a "review" yet skip the most important aspect of a mobile phone?

Dunno about that...Have you checked the price of the Rokr lately? It just dropped significantly.

Posted by: comptr

your right it is now $149.99. They cut the price in half.

I don't know if this is in response to poor sales or an indication that a new phone (w600i maybe?) is getting ready to be released.

Posted by: dragonx6x

^The ROKRs sales were harsh compared to other Motorolas phones. I mean terrible bad. The price drop had to happen. Its like producing the same number of Lamborginis as Hondas. Your not ognna sell them all unless theres a price drop.

Posted by: zadosha

I wonder if Apple had anything to do with the original pricing? Seems like Cingular would have known better than to price it so high. Maybe not.

Sitting in a warehouse, being held hostage.

The revelation of changeable faceplates (shallow, yes, get over it) has put this phone back on the table for me. Which sucks because I had totally decided to get the Nokia 6682 since I busted my Palm. If this has decent PIM functions then maybe I won't need the Nokia. Sigh.

Anybody know of a good calendar program I can download to my G4 Mac running OS 9.2 here at work? Oh, but I digress.

I want this phone. I want, I want, I want. My upgrade is in less than two weeks. Come out, come out wherever you are w600.

Lol, the Palm desktop software? Just kidding. Check out Ecco Pro. You should be still able to find copies on the internet considering they went out of business long ago. They were far ahead of their time, and I know many people that still use it and sync with a Palm. Check out the Ecco Pro Yahoo Group, it's worth it.

Anway, to be ontopic, how good is the camera gonna be on this thing? The one on the s710a was awesome judging by my friend's and various reviews on the web, but I'm assuming this one won't be quite the same caliber. That's an important aspect to me (plus EDGE and BT) so maybe I should get a s710a before they're all gone?

Posted by: lindseybp

There was a comment on Engadget's article with someone quoting the following prices for the W600

399 no contract
349 1 year
299 2 year less 100 rebate to make it 199

He gave no specific release date except sometime in November

He quoted a Cingular Part # 64201 for the phone also. Can anyone verify?

Heh. Well, if I can find a decent app to download to my computer at work, then I can justify getting the w600 in lieu of the Nokia 6682 - I need something that will keep track of my appointments. So, either the w600 can do that or not but have a desktop calendar (I need alarms. I'm easily distracted) or I get the Nokia.

I plan on getting a new phone very soon so I have to decide on the best investment for my particular circumstances. Argh!

I am also keenly interested in the camera. From what I understand, the s710 has a CCD sensor, which makes a dramatic difference in picture quality. It's pretty much a standard, according to my research, in digi cams to have a CCD sensor. My digi cam is dead as a doornail and I'm hoping that a good camera phone can at least serve as a substitute temporarily.

I'm also debating the s710 ... but the size, its supposed laggy menus and the sheer fact it's an older unit that has been improved upon in the w600. On the other hand, Best Buy locally will sell me one for $249 on an upgrade. That's very tempting.

Decisions, decisions, decisions. Do I want a smartphone or a gadget?

Here is another good review of essentially the same phone the S600 over at Mobile-Review. Lots of videos and pictures.

Why pay $400 when you can get it for $300 on pre-order from netfreez. Unlocked and unbranded.

Cheers!

I've never heard of Netfreez. Can anyone vouch for them?

Well then he does not know his own product. It has BT 1.2. This allows multiple connections and works better with the newer headsets.

If you download the white paper for the phone, it says it supports Bluetooth 2.0, as does the z520a. Look on page 38 for the w600

Well I stand corrected. Many other sites though don't list it as 2.0. They list it as 1.2. Well all the better for me. My Apple iBook has Bluetooth 2.0+EDR so it will be a perfect match. Right now with my T637 I transfer at about 4-6KB/s. We will see how much of an improvement 2.0 is. Thanks for the website.

Posted by: mediaone

No problem. Please let us know what transfer speeds you get. I am holding off getting a new Imac until I see how much faster 2.0 is. Plus you get the benefit of using new 2.0 headsets, i.e., better audio quality hopefully...

With a S710a I get roughly 20k/sec, and with a W800 (BT 2.0), I get roughly 40k/sec, with my PowerBook.

So...the phone is on the cingular web:
http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000817066131/

just not in the store.

It's orange.

The walkman W looks like the Cingular splat.

When's it going to arrive for real!

also: on the sony ericsson site, the text says it has a phone light (some sort of lame flash, but better than nothing?). but the "compare phones" thing lists it as not having a phone light. Can anyone clarify?

After looking at the White papers on Sony's Developer page I saw that the T610 (which is pretty much the T637) is BT1.0b, the S710a is BT 1.1, and the W800 is 2.0. So I should expect around 40KB/s. Wow 10 times faster. That will make uploading wallpapers, ringtones, and themes lickity split.

Are you kidding me? He is posting a reference to let people know that It is in the wild. What is happening to these forums? Looking through the rules there is nothing explictly prohibiting a reference to an item such as this. Ive been here almost 4 years and this place is going down the .

word on the street is that the w600i is coming out the 22nd of november, i really hope so...! and as for your other question about the phone comparason, im guessing your talking about the z520 and the w600? well if you were the z520 has a keypad light and flashing led's on the side just for decoration... but the w600 only has a keypad light thats an orange color (looks like the phone color overall is a perfect fit for cingular).

Posted by: persianpunisher

since when has word on the street on these forums been anywhere near to correct? I doubt the 22nd date

Posted by: shnoogan

hahaha... i know it was a joke, but it is supposed to be released later this month, i spoke to a cingular rep. and he didnt know the exact date but he said for sure this month, if you think about it, it is a strategic move b/c its right before thanksgiving and before black friday... but w/e, im still hoping that it drops this month!

Mobilebee is selling the W600i! They have it listed as "available" and the price is just shy of $450!

Okay, so who's going to be the first to buy this baby and post pix and a review of it, huh?! C'mon...I know one of you guys will do it.

I am looking at WirelessAndy. Hopefully after returning his Z520, he will pick up this phone and do a review on it.

Posted by: ASimpleFarmer

the w600 is going to be the same price as the s710. 399.99 no commit and 199.99 on 2 year. if you saw the new price cards coming out you would notice this.

ill be at the launch party!! woooo hope I can win one!

Posted by: .7

I just played with one again in the store along with a w800.

There isnt a lot I wouldnt do for a w600i at this point in time.

I just won a mpx220 as well a couple of days ago, at the same time they were drawing for a w600.

Ive never been ticked when winning a phone until now.

Posted by: ASimpleFarmer

haha you could alway sell the mpx220 ;P but i think you already have considered that. I just hope I get extrememly lucky and win one at the the launch as soon as that lady calls me back for the RSVP

Posted by: .7

Not likely, if theres a launch party anywhere in SLC I either dont know about it or I'm not invited. Im in with the SE reps, but I dont think anythings happening around here.

Posted by: better527

are the free phones just as good? reception wise?

Posted by: ASimpleFarmer

that sucks tripy. i cant wait to eat too. the w600 looks great!!

the free phones have a chance to be unbranded too, so if not better than the brandeded

Posted by: .7

I made myself promise myself (I know, its complicated ) that I would not purchase another non-umts/hsdpa phone again. It looks like that promise is going to get broken. I'll probably have to carry one sooner or later anyways, but I'm afraid I have to have this phone.

I played with this phone again yesterday and realized why I like SE's phones. The menu is SO fast and just makes sense to me. I think Nokia's is probably right up there, but for the user that's really is using all that the phone can do, I think SE's approach to the UI is superior IMO from a phone centric approach. I dont think its the perfect phone by any means, but I walked away impressed yet again. The swivel is strong, the Walkman feature sounds great and plays pretty loud from the phone itself as it plays out of 3 seperate speakers. The only real complaint is the screen isnt as big as the s710, but its big enough.

The old lady's going to be ticked this being xbox360 month as well ..eh, she'll get over it. I'll have to fit finals in there somewhere as well.

Will someone please tell me when these phones are hitting corporate store and at the online store????

This phone better come out in the next few weeks.

Is the RF supposed to be better, worse, or equal to the s710a?

It is supposed to have better reception.

Great shot!

It's from the eBay auction that wasn't supposed to have been linked to from here in the first place. That was probably the most convoluted sentence I've ever written.

Yep. $299.99 @ point of sale, then $100.00 Mail-In Rebate. (2 year contract)

Just like the S710a.

Same price for upgrades? I think I made a mistake. I was looking for discounts for Cingular and found my school had so many percent off my monthly bill so I did it on the Cingular website and it extend my contract. I was eligible for an upgrade on 1-8-2006 and now it says 11-15-06. This shouldn't be a problem right because I did not upgrade my phone at the time?

Engadget pics of the Cingular version now on its website.

I just spoke with a rep at a cingular store and was told the w600 was being rolled out on the 15th.

Posted by: lindseybp

I called a store here and the guy said he had a pricing sheet but the release date was TBD on it. Guess we'll have to wait and see. Once I see it on eBay I'll know it's coming out soon.

Also, check out CNET.com for a review of the W600i that was just recently posted.

cool, hope it comes out the 15th....!

Someone on Engadget posted that the W600i will become available thru Cingular once the inventory of S710a's has been depleted. (Makes sense to me, but who knows if it's true or not).

Also, I was disappointed to read in the Cnet review that the W600i doesn't have stereo speakers. That's too bad!

Ha! Kewl!! I thought I'd read somewhere else that it was supposed to have stereo speakers, but thought I was remembering wrong after Cnet stated the speakers weren't stereo.

It's not the first time Cnet has made a goof in their reviews.

Thanks, Bodeh6!

The article was confusing because they kept alternating between the w600i and the w800i...

However, the w800i doesn't have stereo -- the w600i has three speakers.

"We also were disappointed that unlike the Motorola Rokr E1, the W800i doesn't have stereo speakers. What's more, the sole speaker is located inconveniently on the rear face, so you should place it facedown if resting the phone on a table. A speaker grille appears to be on the right spine, but it didn't work on our review unit. Although you can play music without the earbuds, we recommend you use them to enjoy stereo sound."

At the bottom of the page, here:

played with a W600 today with firmware R7B032 or something 035. The UI felt very smooth but the swivel and overall feel of the phone was very toy-like. Not sure if I really want this phone but I do know it'll sell many.

Posted by: dragonx6x

That was one of the worst cnet reviews actually. To much comparing. With all the complaining they did i was surprised it got the 7.3.

After reading it again i realized that they said the other speaker on the w600 wasnt working. lol lets hope its only for that unit.

Posted by: cingulargal

I am a Cinglar rep and sadley the s710 is on phase out, and my we have been told that we will be getting two new se phones by thanksgiving, also we have the push to talk phones in for reps only, they have been great so far but one of the only two phones to come out is made by LG =(

Posted by: dragonx6x

^Sadly? Really though with the w600 what is there to be missed about the s710. Except for the big screen which i prefer over the w600s.

Posted by: ASimpleFarmer

okay, the w600 is awesome. period. talk about bass on the music player!!
i just got back from the w600 launch in Culver City. this thing is nuts. I love it

plz excuse the obscene flash. k750's fault :P

the z520a is also awesome! its tiny! all the dislikes of the z500 were fixed hah!

oh, like treatz said, this phone's outer speakers (3 of them!) is *curseword* LOUD

it is supposed to come with Disk2phone, data cable, and 2 rubberized faceplates: orange and blue

two comparison pics albeit blurry

NOT the standard headset!

and a cool glowing pic

Are you saying that the Cingular version will come with the 2 faceplates or the Retail one from Sony Ericsson? Blue is my fav color.

Posted by: ASimpleFarmer

the cingular version will come with two face plates. all the phones there were all branded. Hopefully it does come with two. its actually one other set of plates

cingular mms resized this from my 6682

In that paragraph, they were referring to the w800i, not the w600i. Read my post above where I quoted the article.

I agree... how much more effort would it have been required to write two articles: one for the w600i and one for the w800i?

where did you get 11/11 from?

conference call as we speak. this may be when they shipped, wasn't paying close attention except to the dates but that's what THEY said it is released

18000 on order, coming any day. He somehow
could check inventory and quanties expected.
So should be any day now...

I did notice the Cingular logo button on the pictures that ASimpleFarmer posted. Here's my question: the phone does not appear to have GPRS, at least according to SE's website. But since it has EDGE instead, does that mean I have to pay $20/mo for EDGE service to occassionally check the news, weather, movies??? Or can I use WAP?

Also, does anybody know if the Orchid White faceplate color is rubberized too?

The phone has GPRS as well as EDGE. EDGE doesnt cost anything more than GPRS. EDGE is just an evolution of GPRS that is backward compatable with GPRS, All you need is some sort of data plan, whether it be PPU or MediaWorks, the choice is yours.

I cannot wait for this phone to come out.

Should we expect this phone to be locked? I think I remember reading somewhere that Cingular was locking all phones nowadays, even 'world' phone.

The S710 has been officially discontinued as of 10/28/05. There is an announcement on CSP about it.

Also, interestingly, on the newest Cingular rebate form that is good for only November 6th - November 19th, the W600i is listed on it. So that seems to point to an imminent launch. I would post the rebate form but it is 77kb (too large).

I myself am eagerly looking forward to the w600i. There's only one thing keeping me wondering - does it sound as good as the ROKR? I will definitely buy one or the other... but if the W600i sounds as good as the ROKR.. what will I need an S710a for? I may just trade in my recently bought S710 if that's the case. Can anybody compare the sound on the W600i to the ROKR?

Also, there's the memory issue. But at 256MB the W600i has more memory than my S710a will ever have.. but not more than the ROKR could potentially have.

EDIT: Also I think many people don't realize that the S710 is a great music phone. The only downside is the small memory and the lack of a dedicated music button, so you can't change tracks while browsing the net or gaming. So just that little bit makes me want a W600.

Do you mean through the phone's speakers, or through headset speakers? With the W600, I think that there are a total of three speakers on which the music would come out of, and there should be a headset adapter that comes with the phone so that you could use your own quality headphones.

I thought that the W600 did have a dedicated music button? What do the top two buttons on the phone do (above the screen)?

Posted by: neptunet

I was talking about the S710a when I said it didn't have a dedicated music button.

I was talking about through the phone's speakers on the W600 when comparing it to the ROKR. The ROKR sounds amazing through the stereo speakers on it. How does the W600 stack up with the stereo speakers alone?

The top buttons on the W600 are purely for gaming.

the retail price of the phone-(minus) the value of your current phone that you would trade in. a better deal is if you sign up for another 2 yrs then you pay 199 (or w/e price of phone is).

Seems like folks that are out of contract are going to be screwed over as opposed to new customers.

New customer pricing is always better than folks that want to renew a contract.

The w600i would be a horrible introduction the the Sony Ericsson Walkman line. It's a very neutered k750i, w800i, or w900i. It won't stand a chance against the new Razr with mp3 capability. We need the Sakura w900i!

Yeah, but the w900i doesn't have 850 so cingular will not carry it. Plus Americans are too cheap (for the most part) to pay the high cost of the w900i. The w600i will probably not sell really well at first because of the price tag.

The release of this phone is so screwed up. Sony took the "coming soon" tag off their site but now it's back up, release dates keep getting pushed back or are unknown. I mean come on what is holding up the release of this phone? They are even rare on ebay which is usually the first place you see a new phone.

In my opinion its better than all four. In America EDGE/850 is a must. None of these phones carry it.

Plus the new RAZR will unlikely have EDGE or expandable memory, most likely a far smaller amount than the W600.

If you live in Europe then the W900 mit UMTS would be great but i'm stuck in American Canuckistan.

they do have it advertised for sale but they dont physically have them in stock.

I know this because I called and the girl said that they dont have them in stock. I then asked her why do they say that its available if the phone isnt in stock? she said that the phone is available for ordering but it isnt in stock.

now how stupid is that?

I will more than likely wait until after the first of the year to get this phone. I'm digging everything that it can do (except for the lack of removeable memory).

I don't have to have it first. I just want it to be right, and for the right price.

True dat. I mean look at the ROKR. After not so hot sales the first few weeks it dropped $100. I too want the W600 badly, but will most likely wait about a month after being released to get it to make sure that it gets good reviews, a good price, and to see if any issues arise from users.

Have any prices been set in stone?

Posted by: CyberMoto

Let's see what arrives first. The New Year or the W600.

Posted by: Kolt Seavers

Wow. Do you think it will take that long? I was hoping by next week!

Posted by: Paco

Reading about the w800, it's cool that firmware updates can be done from the comfort of whereever you want to be. Wondering if we'll be so lucky with the W600? I ask only because there will be a Cingular version and (I assume) an unbranded version. Perhaps SE won't put firmware updates online to avoid confusion or problems? Perhaps Cingular will put pressure on SE to not put firmware updates online? Whatcha all think?

Posted by: mobilezen

Has anyone bought this phone yet? I saw on a couple models of the w600 that it had R7B040 firmware...the phone felt very solid...much better the second time around.

Wait, what price do exisiting customers whose contracts run out get offered? For example, my 2-year contract with Cingular ends Nov. 21st this year. What price would I be offered for this phone (or something that already is out like the Nokia 6102 or SE Z520a)?

he is mistaken my friend. A relative of mine was a marketing exec at cingular and was telling me a few months ago how whever cingular wants to add a new phone, they add it on a tuesday. But hey, maybe they could be wrong. But less likely than a CS rep. the CS reps know NOTHING of when phones come out.

One question: does anybody know if the camera in the w600 is the exact same one as the s710? Or is it of worse quality? I'm renewing my contract in December and don't know if I should try to find a s710 or go for the new w600. The camera is kind of a big selling point for me.

Posted by: Paco

If the camera is the most important thing, I'd skip both of those and look elsewhere.

The S710a was a higher quality CCD camera while the W600 is the standard CMOS which is used the majority of phones. The 6682 from Nokia has a better camera then the W600 as shown on this forum.

The S710a takes EXCELLENT pictures! the best available from Cingular. Well, until the 6682 was released, that is!

Posted by: Lance Uppercut

Well I've pretty much decided to get a SE phone from everything I've read. It's not like I want to take professional pics, just something to capture those funny moments at parties and have them look good online. I'm coming from a Moto V400 which takes crappy pictures and just wanted to get something better than that.

Posted by: shnoogan

is there a possibility that the w600 will come out tomorrow!!??

Posted by: Kolt Seavers

I hope it comes out before the 23rd...that is the date my 14 day trial with Sprint ends.

Posted by: persianpunisher

I went to the Cingular corporate store and talked to their sales manager about teh W600, sadly, its not coming in soon. There has been a software issue like that of the Z520s he said. he didnt knwo what the issue was exactly but he said it is highly unlikely that they will get it within the next 30 days. He was quite upset, because he says it probably wont be out by Black Friday so his store wont the money that it would with the upcoming phones. I did get to see teh PTT phone though and got to use it for a bit. PTT is AWESOME, but i dont think cingular's pricing is worth it.

Posted by: shnoogan

oh man.... that sucks!!!!!!!!!!! well ill still keep my hopes up for that slim chance that it is coming out this month...... the sales manager could be .0000001% wrong!... hahaaa

Posted by: lindseybp

What kind of software issues? I can't believe there would really be any significant issues because the software is so similar to the W800's. I'll really believe it's coming when I start to see W600's on ebay.

Software issue? Then BestBuy should be recalling all their's too. I have an OEM version of the Z520a and it works great with Cingular. All the W600's I played with ran smooth so I don't know what these software "issues" could be unless they're talking about UICC incompatibilities like the 6682.

my hopes just got higher... lol... there shouldnt be this big of a software issue to cause this long of a delay, so im still sticking to the november release date!

It would keep in line with why SE put the "Coming Soon" message back under the w600.

as of 11/13

Good point...

Posted by: persianpunisher

yeah. that is just what the manager told me. But yes, since SE put back the "Coming Soon" sticker, i would imagine what the manager told me to be more beleivable

I wonder how much better the external speakers are compared to the ROKR...My contract is up, and I am considering getting it. Also, what is the estimated price for new activations?

Posted by: shnoogan

they are supposedly better than the rokr... as far as your price question it will be 199 w/ 2 yr contract...

So would you all recommend the w600 over the s710a? I know this is the replacement model, but with the s710's better camera and screen... I dunno. What do you think?

.....and those are the only advantages of the S710a. The W600 shaves off a ton of size off the S710a so naturally the screen will be smaller. The UI is more up to date, you can use MP3's as SMS ringers, It has more up to date Bluetooth, keys are supposed to be better, more memory, Walkman software for music, better handling of media files, the mic where you speak into has been moved so no more scratching sound for the people on the other end, etc. So basically many of the things wrong with the S710a/S700 Sony Ericsson fixed with this phone. I am glad that when I tried to order the S710a they informed me that it was discontinued. Also another big plus for world travelers is that the W600 is Quad Band meaning that whereever there is a GSM provider in the world, the phone will work no matter what band.

I just hope it comes out in the next few weeks. My T637 is great but it lacks memory and up to date features.

Thanks for the reply, that does put things in perspective. I'm leaning more towards the w600 now, provided that it comes out before mid-December.

If camera is important, the S710 will be your phone...if you're looking for size and overall features, W600 will be your choice.

Wow... Why do I have a feeling that the unbranded W600 price is going to be cheaper than the branded no contract price.

does that mean the end price is 209.99? or has the rebate already been applied?

End price will be $209.99. I think I will wait till the New Year to get it that way I will probably get a better price. Also I will more likely get the newer 3G SIM for future phones (N80).

Posted by: bodeh6

Question: Will the W600 be able to use themes from the K750/W800 since that phone is also based on the newer UI and have the same screen size (176x220)?

remember though... now that i realize it, the estimated price before was 199... so the new price is only 10 bucks more than expected, so im definately still getting this phone!

the w600i is a solid phone, can't wait to get one for the wifey

I spoke to a sustomer care rep tonight, and he said that it MAY be $249 with 2 year agreement, which will bring it down to $149.99 after the rebate. At that price, I will jump on it, but I can't see the $309.99 price tag...

i got that same answer from a rep at the store.

Posted by: TheChad

I was told by 2 different reps, at 2 different Cingular stores that it should be $349.99 BEFORE rebate, making it $249.99 AFTER rebate...

That sounds about right too, as the S710 was $299.99 BEFORE rebate, and $199.99 AFTER rebate.

I got my money on those figures.

---------------------------------

So does the w600 have removable memory or not? Is the camera the same as the s710 or not?

If the answer to either or both of those questions is "No", Then sony is stupid. Why take a step backwords!!

Dunno about the camera, but the W600i does *not* have removable memory.
