Yeah, I really wish they would let us in on this release date. I am waiting for this phone to come out just so I can switch from Verizon to Cingular. Next billing cycle is coming up soon too.

HURRY UP.

there is another thread in the Cingular Phones sub forum that shows the quality between the W600 and the 6230... If you look at the W600 pics...they look nothing like the S710 pics. Only similiarity I see is that they both still have blue hues to the pictures taken.

Posted by: flokati

The cameras on the w600i and the s710 are not the same.

I believe the camera on the s710 is a 2 megapixel, whereas the w600i is a 1.3 mp.

In case anyone is interested, amazon.com has this in its Unlocked phones section for $399.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...7379366-1264059

Posted by: MistaRaddical

The S710a had a 1.3 Megapixel camera, but it was CCD quality.
I believe the W600 is just CMOS.

So they're pretty much expecting this phone at the beginning of Dec as it'll ship in a couple of weeks.

.... so its already out or do they ship it once its released.... i know the w550 is already out but i didnt know that the w600 is.... i wonder if its worth going to italy (b/c i go there every year) or asking one of my relatives to buy the w600... they are already selling it, which is probably why it is being sold on amazon...? any way, i am desperate for this phone and its probably not worth it because i would lose $$ (w/ the euro and all)... but seriously, cingular needs to hurry their a$$es up with this phone, im starting to get impatient!

Posted by: quillhill

I'm not sure if it's worth it, but for those who want to be able to at least order it, it's nice amazon is providing the option. Just thought I'd share that as an interesting bit I noticed today on amazon.

Posted by: shoman94

Yea...I wonder what the hold up is.....at least they could release unbranded models.....

Posted by: jds17j

looks like they are giving away a few free unlocked phones on their website. But one interesting thing in the rules is:

6. Prizes: ONE HUNDRED FORTY-FIVE (145) DAILY PRIZES (ONE (1) FOR EACH DAILY DRAWING): Unlocked Sony Ericsson W600 Walkman™ Phone (Quad band GSM). Prize also includes battery, standard charger, user manual, USB cable, and applications CD. Service plan and SIM card are not included and are the responsibility of the winner. Approximate Retail Value (“ARV”): $300 USD.

They say the approx. retail value is $300 US. Wouldn't that be nice...

http://www.sonyericsson.com/us/w600/rules.html

Posted by: shnoogan

thats cool... do they just tell you when you win and thats it, or do they announce the winner... i signed up for it just now LOL, its cool i gues... the chances of me winning are extremely slim but w/e....

Wrong. Both are 1.3, however the S710a's camera is better due to having CCD rather than CMOS. MUCH better quality

I Am not a cingular customer yet, So I will be able to take advantage of this deal.

But I agree with you, Cellular companies give great deals to new customers, and screw their current customers by making them pay super inflated prices. Its not right, If they were smart they would offer the same deals to current customer with expired contracts, and discounts to customers with non-expired contracts needing/wanting a new phone.

Thease actual cost on thease cell phones is super cheap to these companies.

Especially at the rate cingular changes phones, It seams cingular doesn't carry a phone for more than about 6 months before discontinuing it. Right now i'm with nextel, they keep the same phone for ATLEAST a year, and you can usually get the same phone for about 2 years, even though newer phones will come out.

Actually, it depends on the phone. I got my x427 two years ago... They added a few software pieces to it and renamed it the x427m, and it's still available now.

The Noki 6010 is really old too.

Looks like the smt 5600 is going to be taken back to the store once the w600 comes out. hopefully it comes out before the dec 11 or I will have to select from the current phones availble at the store.

I found the cingular $100 rebate on letstalk:
http://www.letstalk.com/promo/cingu... 05_122405.pdf

Letstalk's price is $150 after rebate for both new customers and contract extension:
http://www.letstalk.com/product/pro...636&search=w600

Posted by: persianpunisher

the amazon deals are great, but ONLY if you are a first time cingular customer. You can't be switching over from Blue to Orange or extend your plan. its ONLY i repeat ONLY for first time customers.

The Question is, Can you use that Cingular $100 rebate if you purchase the phone from somewhere else?

If so, then I'll purchase the phone from Amazon.com and get it FREE!

I don't see why not. The rebate form is as generic as it can be and it's going to Cingular. But who knows..

Yeah, That's what I would think too..

It's this part that worries me....

What about a customer whose contract runs out? Do we revert to new customer status?

Sorry, Bowser, but you just become a customer who is not under contract. You'd have to cancel your Cingular service and be away for like 60 days (or is it 90 days???) before you can come back as a new customer. And you'd have to join under whatever plan is offered then, you'd lose anything you are (or may be) grandfathered in...

That is true for Rebates like the Amazon.com $150 rebate.

The offer's that Cingular has like the $100 rebate should be available for customers who are out of contract right?

The 3 different cingular stores/stands that I have talked to while trying to decide to switch from Nextel to Cingular or not, have all told me that you qualify to get a new phone at the discounted price every 6 months.

They can't possibly be expected to pay the Retail price?!?

TheChad... yes, you got most of it right... The $150 rebate from Amazon is only available for truly "new" customers. Any rebate that Cingular puts on the phone is available for both new subscribers and renewing Cingular customers alike.

However, I don't know why you are being told ever six months.
In a one year contract, you can renew in month #11 (and get a discounted phone). In a two year contract, you can renew in month #21 (and get a discounted phone).

Also, in month #13 of a two year contract, you can buy a phone at the one-year purchase price through some sort of exception... I don't know too much about that one...

Posted by: quillhill

I thought it was 11 months in on a one-year contract and 22 months on a two-year. I've never heard anyone being eligible for upgrade pricing every six months on any carrier, even Cingular. TheChad, I think someone is misinforming you.

Let's take me for example: I signed up Dec. 15, 2004. I was eligible for a rebate just this past Monday, Nov. 14, on my one-year contract. Too bad I'm sitting here waiting for a phone to come out that I want. Sigh.

Oh, while we're talking about the w600, if you get into the Phone Only section for Cingular, the w600 is on letstalk.com now. $389 without contract and UPS 2nd Day air free or $149 with contract extension - I'm assuming that's for a two-year.

Posted by: bodeh6

Yes you can use Cingular's rebate if you buy from Amazon.com. That is how I got my Moto V551 for -$75 or -$100 when I signed up back in Feb 2005. Only thing is you can't keep your number with the Amazon.com rebate.

I would really like to get the W600 for $200, max $250 with 2 year extension. Hopefully Cingular will get it in the next few weeks and have a special on it for Christmas.

what are people's experience with the screen's durability on the W600 (or S710 for that matter)?
i currnently have the Siemens S66 and it's screen is such a scratch magnet...unbelievable. i'd love to get this phone, but since i primarily carry my phone in my front jeans pocket, i'd hate to have it all scratched up by the end of the first week

Posted by: shnoogan

!!!!!!!!!!ahhhhh... ok so i went on to www.sonyericsson.com and the coming soon tag under the w600 was gone!!!!! and i searched w600i on cingulars searchbar and something came up like it was a while ago....does this mean that its coming out sooner than we think???!!!! heres the link to the cingular site thing i was talking about... http://www-xl.cingularextras.com/fu...y_ericsson&dc=0

Posted by: Lance Uppercut

index, you could always get some kind of screen protector. I've heard good things about Martin Fields' protectors. They make some specially for the w600. I'm definitely getting one if I ever get the w600. For around 9 bucks I think it'd be a good investment.

Posted by: Paco

I've used my S710a with no screen protector or case of any kind for about 9 months, and the screen looks great! I too keep the phone in my front pocket. No reason to think the W600's screen will be any different.

Rumor has it, that the SE swivel phones like the S710a have some sort of magic coating that prevents scratches. Of course a naked 240x320 262k screen needs protections. I hear you can key it and it won't scratch!

Are you 100% sure you can't keep your number with Amazon.com?

I don't know about Cingular, but I bought my I90 for Nextel from Amazon.com, and the phone comes unactivated, when you call Nextel to activate, they have no information what so ever about the phone/plan or any information from Amazon.com. So basically with Nextel when you call to activate the phone, you tell them the plan/features you want, where you are located, what area code you want, type of phone, and Serial number.

In other words with Nextel, if you wanted to port a phone number, you'd just tell them when you called to activate the phone..

I Assumed it was the same with cingular...

Cingular
Cingular and Amazon.com have not yet established a method for customers to transfer their current number to a new Cingular account. Unfortunately, in order to port your previous number, Cingular will cancel the account that Amazon.com activated and will activate a new account with the ported number. This process makes you ineligible for the Amazon.com rebates. We hope to offer a porting option in the coming months, so please check back.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...034457#Cingular

Amazon.com currently cannot provide the rebate with Cingular number transfers. They are the only carrier they have issues with.

But they won't ship it out for 1-2 weeks until they get the phone.

Posted by: neptunet

I'm not 100% sure, but it is very likely that you can still get the $100 Cingular rebate when buying on Amazon.com. The reason is, Amazon is a Cingular Agent obviously to be able to sell Cingular service. I would go ahead and do it.

Nov 22nd seems like the best date before December. Although, from the Cingular folks I have spoken with, said that it would be out in December

i think thats the best date.... either monday or tuesday(b4 thanksgiving), i say this b/c sony ericsson has completely removed the "coming soon" tag as well as remaking the flash video thing that is desplayed on the main page of the phone.

Max on the S710a is the Memory Stick Duo 128MB. Add in the 32MB on board and you have 160MB, almost 100MB less then the max in the W600.

Exactly. I know everyone is like 'oh, but you can have more than one Duo card', but thats kind of pointless and defeats the purpose.

I wish I could afford the w800....that's hot.

'Tis true. But that could be fixed in a future firmware update... It may not be, but its possible.

That does suck though, because it takes better pictures.. The w600 has all the memory, but it's not as usefull on that phone, as it would have been on the s710.

I wish they would have kept the CCD camera on the w600.

They had a $100 mail in rebate

I don't see anything on CSP. Am I on crack? Where is the info located on there?

Posted by: brody4

i am out of contract with cingular ... and i just got off the phone with sony ericsson (letstalk.com) they told me 249.99 with a 2 year contract ext. + a $100 rebate =$149. the down side is even with the overnight shipping he said it still will take 2 to 4 buss. days to get to me.

Posted by: audiovoxx

i didnt get the info from csp... i got an district wide email giving us the specs and estimated pricing.... they said it was expected launch date nov 22.... im waiting for the phone to arrive quite excited about this one.... the other good news is it is covered by lockline insurance

Posted by: Murdock

Well, I just ordered the w600 from letstalk.com. I'm kind of nervous since I've never had Cingular before, but hopefully they will work good for me. I should have the phone in a couple of days.

Posted by: brody4

murdock what kind of price did you pay?

Where are you located? Then people on these boards can tell you if your area is good or bad.

Posted by: Murdock

I'm around the Utica NY area. I asked a while ago on these boards and the general feeling was that this area is pretty decent. My Verizon phone drops calls like mad in my apartment only when it's cloudy. When it's nice out, it works fine. Unfortunately, it's been cloudy lately. I've been wanting to try Cingular out for a while, so that gave me a good reason to.

As for the phone, it was $299 before a $100 rebate on a one year contract. I don't think that's too bad. I was torn between the w600 and the s710a, but opted for the former because it's supposed to be a little bit better with reception.

Im with you. Things are only getting worse, and howard still is just as confused as he was when he did his T610 video.

Well, I usually read the forums but don't really post. I think awhile ago I had another screen name too. I was working at a Verizon Wireless retailer for the past 3 years (we closed over the summer) and used the forums as a good source of info. I don't know if I would call myself a phone buff...I kept myself knowledgable when I was in the industry and now I just like to keep up to date on what's going on in the phone world. Plus, it's been a great source of info for my jump to Cingular.

Posted by: dragonx6x

So how long do you think it will take to get that rebate?

Can't wait for this phone.

Posted by: Murdock

Dunno...it says 10-12 weeks, which is normal for a rebate. My rebate with Verizon came within a month, so who knows.

Posted by: persianpunisher

I got my rebate for for my iPaq and the W600i was listed with a 100 dollar MIR

Posted by: Cingularblog

I got the opportunity to check out the W600i at a SonyEricsson party in Orlando and there are many good things I can say about this phone, but, I am just going to tell about the experience that I had w/ MobiTV on the W600i. Ok, so most people have probably seen or used good ol' MobiTV before and you've probably found that it wasn't quite up to snuff for what you expect for your TV experience. Well kiss what you knew about MobiTV goodbye, this phone is offering a new version of MobiTV that blows the old one of the map. The frame rate is finally near TV quality & my guess is that it's probably pushing NEAR 30fps. Anyway, just wanted to give you a little first hand, I think you guys are really gonna like this phone once you get it.

btw..The W600i comes preloded with a MobiTV2 demo

Hey All!

Amazon.com is now (11/21/2005) Offering the Cingular w600 for FREE!

They have a $150 Amazon.com Rebate, and a $100 Cingular Rebate!

The only problem, atleast for me, I can't seam to actually place an order, It lets you select the phone, but there is no way to select the calling plan, and thus can not complete the order. However I have written to Amazon.com, and should get a responce soon!

Hopefully with any luck, I will order my w600 within the week!

I've heard some bad things about Amazon and rebates...plus, that's with a 2-year contract I would assume. I don't like 2 year contracts.

Amazon.com rebates are great. I have done about 5-6 between me and my family members. All no problems.

Wow, free? Geez. Amazon is nuts.

I cannot wait to find out if they'll be in stores today or not!

I'll 2nd that!

I have only bought 1 cell phone from Amazon.com before, a Nextel i90, It had a $150 rebate, It took a bit of time, but I did get the rebate, as a matter of fact, about 1 month after I finally did get my rebate, They sent me a 2nd $150 rebate!

So they actually gave me $300!

Also Amazon.com doesn't make you wait 3-6 months just to submit your rebate like almost all the other online retailers rebates.

I have no problem with Amazon.com.

So did Cingular cripple any of the features?
And are there any noticable bugs (if you've already played with one of the phones)?
If this comes out on GoPhone I might get it...

it was 324.xx (or so) after tax on a two year. 8.25% tax here

then the person has to send in a $100 MIR.

Not bad, but not as good as Amazon.com's dea for new subscribers: $249.99 less two rebates makes it free...

Cell phones offer PHONE fuctions? I did not know that. I just thought they offered crappy megapixel cameras, music, and Nintendo style games.

I am waiting patiently for an unbranded w600 but it's taking so long the easter bunny will probably deliver it!

Posted by: Paco

shopwireless.sonyericsson.com finally lists an unbranded W600 for sale. They didn't get the picture right, but there is a SKU. According to their CS people, if there is a SKU, then it will almost certainly be shipping within 1-2 weeks. I would assume that would apply to both them and to other sellers like Amazon. I too am willing to pay extra for an unbranded version.

Posted by: lucke

seeming as though one was sold from a Cingular store, you would think that the site (cingular.com) would be updated to reflect that the phone is avail.

yet its not there for me...

would their CS know about it if i called? or would i be dealing with morons who have no clue except to check their own website, and thus be wasting my time.

Is the $139 after rebate?

That must be the price it is going to sell for on the websight, as Cingular has told me that there is no discounts on the phone's only on the calling plan. My Wife's company gets 22% off her bill, according to Cingular, that's the highest they offer.

Unbranded phones have some possible advantages over the Cingular branded version:

1. Assuming it is locked like the S710a was, it was a pain in the butt getting Cingular to unlock it. They'll do it, but it's such a pain with them. I'd rather just have the phone unlocked to begin with.

2a. According to another thread, the OTA firmware update menu item is not there on the Cingular version. I do not know if that feature was just something in the Demo on the SE site, but if it is a real feature, I want it.

2b. Firmware updates are much more likely to be available sooner for the unbranded version.

3. Cingular is typically not the worst at feature retrictions, but I'd rather just not have any with my next phone. Example: I hated not having the Enter URL menu option on my S710a.

Imma hafta look around, but I'd swear, that looks different in that pic up thar.

And I had totally decided I was not buying this phone. Totally. Dangit.

Posted by: daftgem

I CANT stand the fact that Cingular reorganizes the menu and puts MediaNet where Messaging should be. It totally puts me off. Damn you Cingular.

Posted by: Paco

Seems to match everything I have seen so far.

I'm a fan of the swivel, but my one complaint is that the keypad is too far from the buttons right below the screen. Makes one-handed texting really difficult.

Hmm. I'm something of a texter. Pushing 800 messages a month now.

But, I swear that keypad is different than the w550 unbranded version I played with recently. The seperations of the digits in each row was definitely rounded rather than straightish lines on the photos up above. I could be hallucinating, but the keypad bugged me. I don't think this one is as bad. But, I'll have to look at photos elsewhere.

Alrighty...I am due for an upgrade. I'm gonna rethink this phone after all. Now, some new photos from the cam on the phone would be helpful, too.

is this the photo that you were thinking of?

Posted by: quillhill

I dunno. Looking at other photos now, I'm thinking I was hallucinating the way the buttons look.

Different reviews say different things about the camera and it's frustrating. The pics that have been taken with the camera aren't the best I've seen taken with a 1.3 MP using a CMOS sensor. I just hate to get another phone with a crappy camera as I don't have a digital cam at the moment.

It's not right to have my digi cam and my PDA die within a couple weeks of each other and shortly before I became eligible for a phone upgrade. Argh.

Posted by: bodeh6

I am getting this phone the first week of December when I am eligible.

The Camera is probably your standard 1.3MP camera phone camera. Not the best (S710a, 6682), not the worst (Moto V710).

Unlocked means that it can take any SIM card. If it was "locked" to Cingular, then when you put in a T-Mobile SIM, it would ask for the subsidy code to unlock it. If it was unlocked, then you can put in any SIM with out worrying about who the carrier is.

yeah, but their phone reps have no clue about the phone. I just got off the phone with one of them about an hour ago, she had no idea what i was talking about. nice lady, but the only thing she could say was 'they dont keep us updated about whats on the Premier website'.....and apparently they dont have any w600i or s710a's in their warehouse according to the phone rep. I'm so confused...

Cingular's website would probably have the phone most likely Friday or next Tuesday.

well its only a matter of time before these phones start popping up on ebay with places like Letstalk shipping them already.

however, they're still kind of hard to come by even on ebay.

now why in the world would places like Letstalk.com have them already if Cingular doesnt even have them in their Memphis or Texas warehouses yet?

weird.

i dont know if its a different department or what but i have a reg. account and a bussiness account .... i tried to order it on my reg. account and she said that phone is not out yet ..... i said i was just on the premier site and its their and she also said they are not updated with that info. o well

it doesnt take me 30 days to figure out if I'm going to like a phone or not. I usually know by the second or third day if the phone will be a keeper or not.

how can some stores get them but others not even know the phone is being released?

anyone tried the google local for mobile yet for this phone??

Local non-corporate Cingular store told me they'd be getting two in today by the end of the afternoon, and if not today, Friday.

Found out what it is.... Think of the biggest baddest Corp Cingular store in your area and this is who will have them. Ex. called around here locally in Atlanta GA, and had called all the small stores and all the Cingular agents no dice.... When I called a MAJOR store sure enough they had them. Sooooo dont waist time calling everyone (maybe), think of the MAJOR COR in your area and I'm sure they will have it!!!

P.S. I don't have this nor am I getting this phone. However, outta of love for my Cingular peeps and phone junkies like myself, was this response posted!!!

it's live ..... dail 611 from your mobile.

Posted by: TheChad

Has anyone actually been able to order one from Amazon.com?

I e-mailed them but have not gotten a responce, which is weird because they usually reply very quickly.

My guess is that they are not letting you order it because they don't have them yet, and probably don't want to start selling them untill they have them in hand, as to not get a ton of orders that they can't fill.

Well, tripy, I guess I'm just going to have to make a trip to Best Buy. I wonder what the price was with an upgrade?

just picked mine up... will get everything going and give my review after a few days of use.

i will say its smaller than i thought it was going to be, and the speaker phone is pretty loud, until you start driving

$299 plus tax... so ~$325

although they said initially that it was going to be full price of $399 plus tax... not sure how that one worked, but i'm happy i didn't end up paying full price.

found the first thing i don't like, but it isn't with the phone.
the PC Suite won't work with my computer just because i'm using Win XP x64 (64bit windows) its not recognizing this as a valid OS

now i'm going to have to transfer my music to my laptop and install it there. such a hassle

picked mine up this morning, and ao far really like it!

Paid 199.99 plus 100 MIR with 2 year at cingular corporate store

No luck with local Best Buy stores today. So, gonna call the nearest corporate store. If all else fails, I will just order it from telesales. I don't really want a freakin' smart phone. I want something different and the RAZR ain't that no more. And I have to scratch this itch.

I didnt look, but I saw the Best Buy rep showing it to a customer. I was there picking up some games for my new Premium Xbox 360

**update** I just called the store and they said they dont lhave them in and the rep must have had his own personal one that he was showing the customer...basically their clueless so I cant vouch for what experience you'll get there. Just call the COR stores.

If anyone wants to hook me up with one of these just feel free to PM me and I have 4 free itunes I will hook you up with.

Honestly, Im thinking of trying to hit up the local SE rep for one but I dont know what angle to work him on. I need to think of something.

I called a corporate store in Southcenter (Tukwila, WA, about 20 minutes south of Seattle) and I was told by a guy named Steven that the w600s were shipped to that store today. I told him I'd check back this coming weekend.
I'm not the impatient type. But, I really want to get this phone. I've got the funds. Now I'm just debating waiting it out until this weekend to get one in person or order it from telesales, which I suppose means I'd get it this weekend anyway. I had planned to just pay for it outright, but the price is hard to resist with an upgrade and the MIR. Oh, who needs to be out of contract?

In any case, for those in the Seattle market, expect to see this in stores this weekend, from what I can tell.

4 free itunes? As in iTunes downloads? Or iPods? Or ROKR phones?

Got it today after calling, literally 20 DC area corporate and sub stores. Only two places had them, a store in Georgetown had 2 and a corporate store in Tysons had a 'demo' model....which was promptly sold to me

It's a sweet phone, the keypad takes some getting used to, but it's a little better than the s710a.

Posted by: lucke

the corp store that i got mine from got like 30 of them today, but only about 10 of them came with the right wall charger so most are going to be shipped back. another guy that bought his this morning brought his back because it had the wrong wall charger... they comped it for him and switched mine out with another one that had the right one.

I have a quick question I didn't see covered. What themes work on this phone? I was just gonna try some but didn't want to screw my new baby up, so...

I also got mine today as well. my initial impressions of this phone? errrhhhh, can you say S710a but in a smaller and an orange colored case? yup, that just about sums it up.

no seriously, the phone is pretty cool, but I dont think its going to be worth its $400 no contract price. at least not in my opinion.

thank the Lord that I litterally paid just about nothing for this phone and I do mean almost nothing because otherwise I might feel just a tad bit let down had I paid full price. oh well, I'll post some pics tomorrow if I get the chance.

by the way, someone in the SE section said the W600i uses the same themes as the K750i does.

*EDIT*

my first impressions of this phone are as follows:

1) I already miss my S710a's larger and what appeared to be more clearer screen vs. my W600's screen.

2) the W600's UI is much (and I do mean much) faster than my S710a. there is litterally a night and day difference between the two phones.

3) I dont like the way the USB cable and the battery charging cable attach to this phone. it doesnt look like its going to be too durable before one of the clipping tabs on the USB cable/charging cable might break off. hopefully I'm going to be wrong on this one.

4) the RF meter on my W600 seems to be holding more bars than what my S710s does. but then again, we all know that signal bars dont always mean everything either so take that with a grain of salt.

5) I litterally hate the new SIM card compartment of the W600. it can be a PITA trying to get the SIM card out of this phone especially if you have big hands or fingers. I'd like to meet the genius who thought of this design. I like the S710a's SIM card compartment much better and easier to access.
