...I just checked mine, and it does not do this. Still, it is strange.

I think I have found my first flaw with my W600.

I noticed that when my battery is pretty low and I am using the music player, the phone will all of the sudden stop playing the music and it will completely lock up. I then have to push the power button and restart the phone in order to get the phone to come up again.

this has happened a couple of times now so I cant consider this a fluke of nature kind of thing. oh well, its really not that big of a deal because I hardly ever use the music player when the battery is very low but still. I dont think that the phone is supposed to be doing this none the less.

..how much music play would you get on a full battery? I get about 2 hours before the battery drops to 50%. Now, having said that, that's from 88%. It never gets past 88% when I charge it from the USB cable (and I've never tried from the power cable, can't be bothered to open it. Especially since I sync everyday, no point in using two cables...)

Posted by: naviwilliams

...also, has anyone ever seen their power button light, turn red? What does that mean? I've checked the manual, and there is nothing about it in there...

I don't have this phone, but as a longtime mac user, I've had a similar thing happen with firewire devices. When it does, one/both of these things usually fix it: 1) fix permissions with Disk Utility; 2) Empty the caches (using any number of programs, such as tiger cache cleaner. Good luck. I'm thinking of getting this phone myself.

dont mind the useless people one bit. there's alot of members on this forum that think that even they are beyond God himself just because they have a bazzilion post count status under their belts. therefore they think that their (you know what) doesnt stink.

you'll usually find out that the more helpfull people on this forum are the long timers but w/o the bazzilion post count status. I've seen this all too many times myself.

Not sure if this has been posted but just saw that wirefly has the w600i for free. And you only pay a hundred dollars up front. Then it appears you get two 100 dollar mail-in-rebates. So actually instead of free you make a hundred dollars. Not a bad deal at all if anyone is looking to activate.

Posted by: Bloom

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions.

Publicpersona, you mention a program called Tiger Cache Cleaner. I'm not familiar with it; is this something like Disk Warrior? I ran both Disk Utility and Disk Repair after booting off the original install disk, but still can't get the computer to see my phone.

Anyway, hopefully I/We'll get to the bottom of this one way or the other. It would be nice to use the USB cables.

I understand. I received online links to Premier (via e-mail), but I didn't get their phone number. Care to share the number you called? Thanks.

I see $200 up front.

Can't wait to order mine on Premier for $149.99 along with a bluetooth headset (not yet decided on which one yet).

Edit: Just put the phone on order. $180 something after upgrade fee and taxes. No bluetooth headset for me just yet..

someone mentioned earlier the w600 comes with a new version of mobitv. anyone care to comment on the framerate or video quality? can it play full-screen?

i imagine the picture is much improved since the phone has class 10 EDGE.

Quality is much better than it's predecessor. Frame rate is probably near 20-25 fps I would guess. Haven't tried to make it full screen, I will when I have the opportunity later today. IMO It is a fair quality tv feature that still has some room for improvement, but, that doesn't stop me from giving it a positive review.

I say MobiTV2 w/ Class 10 EDGE is a 7 out of 10.

...is it me or does the w600i NOT synch the address of the contacts from Outlook? I can't believe it does not! I was at the mall, and wanted an address, that I knew I had in Outlook. Anyway, went to my trusty w600i, and the address was not there - the phone number etc, was, but...

Now, this is something that I dearly miss from not having my Nokia 6682...

it's just you. I have addresses copied onto my phone from outlook. You might want to go to sony's website and download the latest software.

...thank God for that! I was just thinking I made the horrible mistake of sending my Nokia 6682 back and getting the w600i!

Posted by: naviwilliams

...ok, don't laugh. I had the address there all the time! I'm so use to using Nokia (where it shows everything on one screen). I realize now that I have to scroll left-to-right to see additional items. But, why does one have to go into "edit" mode of a contact to see additional info? Or is it just me again? LOL

Posted by: wierdo

Wow, they replaced your 6682 with the w600? Horrible. Not that the w600i is a bad phone..it's actually pretty nice.

Ooh, I hope wirefly also has that deal for people who want to add a line too...

Posted by: naviwilliams

...well I've been looking and don't see an option anywhere to upgrade an exsisting line.

I've even looked for a phone number to call them! None listed, anywhere on there site. In addition, I tried the contact us link, and all you can do is ask them questions, BUT, you must have a customer number to proceed. How silly...

When you dial 611 on a phone signed up through the Business Premier...it automatically goes to their reps instead of the "normal" idiots you have to deal with.

There are no options to make it longer. On SE phones, It just gives you that first one then thats it. It doesn't have a "nagging" effect like Motorolas which keep ringing/vibrating until you press a button.

LMAO - "nagging" effect!

In another thread, it's been mentioned that AAC/MP4 songs are all listed as Unknown in the Walkman, since the ID3 tags are not being read. Is this 'normal'? MP3's work fine, but not AAC/MP4's. I've confirmed this myself. Does the W600i not support ID3 tags for AAC song files? I am using iTunes, and wonder if there is something unique to AAC's created that way?

EDIT: Update to my own post. I don't believe that AAC's actually use ID3. Guess iTunes uses something internally. Guess that is why they don't show up in the phone. Can someone confirm?

hey guys,

on my home screen, i'm seeing an icon next to the reception bars:
it's a message icon with a printer on it. i tried searching for every type of message and I couldn't figure out what it was. my friend said that SE's have something known as the Push messages, which are like service messages. I've searched and searched, but can anyone help me locate the inbox so i can get rid of that little icon?

Also, does anyone have settings for AT&T mMode for a SE w550i or a w600i? I'm sure the settings will be the same for both phones. if someone can guide me towards that, that will be awesome...

but my main thing is that i want to get rid of that icon.

Thank You very much in advance...

Posted by: Paco

Did you compare it to the list of standby icons in the manual? It doesn't match any of those?

Also, the SE site under Software and Setup for the W600 will allow you to send the settings to your phone.

thanks, i checked the icons in the manual. couldn't find one similar to the one i'm seeing on the screen. as far as internet goes, the settings have been sent to me. thanks for the tip. i also changed my MMS settings. Not that i use them too much, but still, nice to have them...

Has anyone noticed that when listening to music the battery runs down quickly, down to the 30's & 20's% and sometimes even looks like it's about to go dead? Then, you stop playing music, and check the battery status, and it's back to about 54-60% left?

Strange, no?

Well, am probably getting the same. Now, having said that, I listening to music for about 1hr or so a day, I have it set to check emails every 30 minutes. In addition, I browse the internet on it, so, am sure it's on par with the battery duration it gives...

Oh, but I do synch every other day too, so I suppose it gets a touchup on the battery...

What kind of case is everybody using. I have the ICE-25 from SE and it seems like a good, but tight fit. It fitted my T637 much better then the W600i. Has anybody tried the ICE-30 with the W600i? If not, I can live with the ICE-25.

Posted by: naviwilliams

...just buy a screen protector, like this and put the mobile in your pocket...

Posted by: Paco

IMHO, screen savers are not worth it with these latest SE phones. I used a S710a for 10 months, putting in my pocket all the time, and the screen still looked great.

Regarding battery life, remember you can reduce the screen brightness. That will help battery life tremendously.

Also, what's the retail price? If I can sell the S710a for a good price, I'd probably get the w600i (or the w800i).

The earbuds are allright. They come with three sizes of foamies for your ears. They look like this:

They plug into the mic adapter and then it plugs into the bottom of the phone. Plenty of cord length.

i just recieved the ice-25 yesterday...it is a tight fit, and it sticks out because the phone is bulky or wide. its better than nothing, but i dunno i would be interested in other options...i carried my phone in an oakley pouch for a few days. i like it better in my pocket than feeling like i have a shoe box attached to my belt

i'm sorry but, i just personally hate leather covers for phones. for some reason, they make teh phone look really really cheap. But that's just my opinion. It does seem to fit pretty nicely on that w600.

I still can't figure out that icon. BTW, i'm working on getting an image of that icon so I can post it here...

I hate leather covers. They make the phone look awful.

BTW: I have to give big props to SE on doing a bang up job on the RF of the W600i. I can now make calls in any part of the school library, where as my V551 and T637 would lose signal completely. Also in the Food court here at WSU I now have excellent RF where my other 2 GSM phones would lose signal. Can't wait to try it out at work tomorrow in the pharmacy part where I work where my phones usually don't work.

Posted by: 18t

that case is horrible, a its ugly(looks cheap), and b if you have to dial a new number you have to slide it off the holster, unbutton it flip the cover over the top, then slide the phone, then dial the number, and then reverse all of that to get it back to normal. That design doesnt work with a phone like the w600. i like the ice-25 better, it was $13.99 and it looks nice rather than cheap, if i drop it i wouldnt expect my phone to go flying out of the case or break.

I've not been a fan of leather cases for some time...on clamshell phones eventually the case stretches and becomes useless. I spied a cool universal body glove case at target for like $12 that I may have to go pick up today. I have to do something. I'm terrified I'm going to scratch the screen. Crazy, I know.

And, bodeh, I totally am with you on RF. I am so impressed. This thing is outperforming my RAZR here at my office. More bars--I know, I know, but hear me out -- and superior call quality.

Slightly OT, but bodeh, WSU? You don't mean Washington State University? If so, it's really good to have someone reporting on the w600's RF on campus there. Sometimes people come along and ask.

Here's a couple things I dig about this phone:
1) I took a pic. I went to send it and among the options was to send it to a friend who had just sent me a SMS. That is just brilliant. I remember on my T616 it took an eternity to get a message out because you had to go through six million menus.
2) This thing multitasks like a champ.
3) Okay, one more. It makes the Moto UI seem sooooooo sluggish. A buddy I text regularly was surprised at how quickly I was sending messages back.

And I must say the keypad will take a bit of getting used to, but it's nowhere near the turnoff I thought it would be.

you guys are talking about the w600i. i'm using the w550i (w/o the 850 band) and i get better reception than i did with a samsung. with a samsung, i used to get at most 2 bars here in office. but with the 550i, i get 4 bars most of the time. occassionally i get all 5 bars...

I loved my v551 for about three months. But the battery just sucked on mine. I got it in December of last year. I got the RAZR in June. I hung onto the v551 until August, but I just couldn't stand using it, especially since the battery life and reception was so much better with the RAZR. The w600 is head and shoulders above the v551. Heh. I do not regret using my upgrade to get it.

I haven't used SE phones in a while, last one was a T68i. Do they still have the "chat" feature so a text convo. w/a friend is on one screen (replies + incoming) much like an instant msngr window...I loved that "feature."

i dont' believe it does... at least i can't find it. if money wasn't an option, i would say the AIM function is much better than the old chat feature though.

anyone know of a place to download movies for the w600 or do you just have to edit videos your self?

Posted by: wierdo

I think it only supports .3gp. If you have dsl or cable and a fast computer, use Orb. It works fine with the w600i, despite not supporting real. That's a lot better than cramming movies into the 256mb, anyway.

Alternatively, you could use Quicktime Pro to convert a video file into a 3gp file (hinted if you want to stream it) and put that on the phone using the USB cable. Or you could use Darwin Streaming Server to stream the hinted 3gp file to your phone from your own server.

Posted by: mobilezen

What bluetooth headsets have you guys used with the W600? I was one of the earlier adopters for the Z520a and the bluetooth is horrible on it. I just hope I don't get the same thing with the W600...any help is appreciated.

Posted by: Slowpoke SS

I went to play with a live w600i today at the cingular store, and finally decided against it. It's a nice phone and all but going from the S710a to the w600i was just too strange. I didn't like the feeling of the plastic to the touch, and the screen was quite a disappointment...wasn't any better than the z520a.

Now if SE would ever make a version of the HPM-70 headset for the S710a I'd be a happy man.

In conclusion, nice phone, but for $300 I'm not switching over.

i think you are SOL unless u got some hacking software.

I think thats retarded that you cant just delete the stock stuff.

Posted by: naviwilliams

...has anyone noticed that their w600i reboots when connected to the USB cable? Mine did ONCE, and I only knew because on my PC a screen came up asking me to enter my pin number (since my sim pin is always on!). Before entering my pin, I looked at my mobile, and yep, it had rebooted, and thus asking for a pin...

Is there a way to view a character counter for text messages? On all my Nokias, they've had a 160 that counts down to zero so you know if you are crossing over into two messages. I don't see it anywhere here. How are you supposed to know how many characters you've used?

On the S710a the counter will show up once you get 20 characters within the 160 limit, and once you've exceeded that 20 character limit a "SMS2" notification will pop up to remind you that you are on your second SMS.

Probably the same with w600i.

Try Da Vinci team for generic w600i firmware?

Thanks, it's exactly as you said!

My sister just got the RAZR and I don't know how see can live with it. The ear piece volume is not as good and the voice quality is not as good as the W600i. The W600i sounds more full then the tinnier Moto. Also the UI was so stupid after using SE UI for the last 10 months or so. Also the BT transfer was slow 5KB/s vs 40KB/s. The Build quality was also an issue. The UI is so slow.

I just started using the Samsung D357 (for PTT reasons) and the first thing I immediately noticed was how low the earpiece volume is on that damn phone. I have to litterally use my Bluetooth headset on this phone just to be able to comfortably hear the person who I am talking to no thanks to the phone's earprice volume being way too low.

and yet ANOTHER reason why I love my W600. it has perfect earpiece volume along with great reception. man, if this thing supported the PTT feature I'd truly be in heaven.

Posted by: quillhill

Out of the box, the earpiece volume on the w600 was too low for me, but I turned it up just one notch and it was perfect. With Motos they've got those things cranked up to full volume out of the box and it blows my ears out. Heh. I think excessive Moto and iPod use has damaged my hearing.

This morning I used the FM tuner on the phone to listen to the radio. I programmed a few channels into the pre-sets, too. I really like the radio interface. I was so pleased to see "Bob Rivers in the Morning" scrolling across the screen followed by the station's call letters, KZOK.
About a year ago -- pre-iPod days -- I had a CD player with an AM/FM tuner that was alright. But, this is leaps and bounds beyond that. The antenna on the headset is not as sensitive to movement as the old CD player and there was virtually no static. Just a joy to listen to. I'm a Sony fan, BTW, and used Sony audio products almost exclusively before my iPod. I have a pair of Sony noise-cancelling earbuds that I love, but I think the included earbuds are just as nice. They're actually almost identical to the w600i's included earphones. Yay!
Every time I pick up the phone I find something new that I love about it.

OK...i didnt know what everyone was talking about with the slow Moto UI. it seemed fine when i was using my v600. now that i got my w600i a couple days ago...HOLY CRAP moto's UI is slow!

i thought i would be annoyed with no send/end buttons, but it hasnt bothered me so far. the only annoying thing is i keep hitting the cingular button all the time by accident...

now...if i can find out how to disable AMR-HR on my w600i, it would be 98% perfect.

I've read a few places that there is a plug/software that allows iTunes to see the w600i! Is this true? I can find the software for MAC's, but what about us Windows users?

Someone help me, and others like me; please...

Man, I hate myself sooo much.
Got a very good offer for the S710a, so I sold it and now the W600i is sitting and charging.

Couple of questions:
1. blue faceplates: where to get them? the Cingular branding is horrid
2. Is it supposed to be $399, no rebate or $299 after $100 MIR for prepaid/no committment? The salesperson kept insisting that I wouldn't get a rebate for prepaid phones. The price tag at that store said $399, while at another corp store (same market) it said $299 after $100 MIR. The rebate form also indicated $100 available for GoPhone customers during the period of 11/6 to 12/24.

(edit: also desperately waiting for generic firmware...Cingular branded files take up sooooo much space).

Well girls...I don't know what I was thinking but today I went out and bought myself a brand-spanking-new SE w600i. After a few hours with this phone all I can say is "paint me green!" I don't even really listen to music on my phone. The internet is awesome. With Opera Mini installed it's even better. The volume is refreshing. The signal appears very solid. The size ain't that bad either!

Mine bought at a corp store came with orange and blue faceplates.

The price I paid on a 2 yr was $299 + $100 mir for a net of $199.

...can we update the firmware ourselves or do you have to send it off like Nokias???

...if you got one in a Cingular box, the "navy blue" face plate should be in the box. That's what's on my phone, anyway. As for the pricing etc, am not too sure. I swapped my Nokia 6682 for the w600i, thus no cost was discussed with Cingular. New un-branded firmware probably won't be around for a while...

THose didn't look too blue to me; in fact, the salesperson referred to them as "black". I just put them on, and it's not the blue was thinking about.

Too accustomed to Motorola "blue" I guess. Are there other colours available?

...the three main ones are: "orange" , "navy blue" & "white". But do a search or check eBay. There was a link ( I can't post it here, in addition, I can't even find it again; I just looked on here for it...), but you could custom your cover, i.e. picture, colour etc, and it was only about $15...

It wasn't possible on the S710a, so I'm guessing the same on the W600i.
You can make/receive calls with the swivel closed though.

OK guys...unless I have a defective unit, or am not doing something right, I think I found a feature Cingular disabled.

Make a call to someone. Your supposed to be able to hit your left softkey, scroll down to RECORD and record the conversation. That seems to work, but when you go to SOUNDS the recorded name shows up as the number you dialed with a blue diamond icon beside it. The file cannot be played.

Am I doing something worng? Can someone with Cingular firmware test this please?

Thanks!

Damnit i was coming into this thread and about to ask this question. I want to be able to answer by just turning the phone.

BTW, i thought the front acted as a speaker to but its not . Doesnt matter still satisfied.

Just tried it....same thing.

It would only record for like half a second and the recording notification would disappear. Sometimes it would play that little bit it recorded and sometimes it would have a blue diamond icon.

Well there's one reason NOT to buy cingular firmware! As soon as I can this puppy gets unlocked and new generic firmware. Not sure why they did it. They haven't disabled this feature on any Nokias like the 6102 and 6682.

Posted by: VTECaddict

it doesnt work for me either.

Posted by: Slowpoke SS

Ok I emailed Da Vinci and hopefully we'll get a reply soon.
BTW where do you attach a hand strap to the W600? I see a little slit on the top of the loop antenna but I can't figure out how a strap wire will go in.

Posted by: Slowpoke SS

By the way, is the W550i the same as W600i externally?
CNN.CN has a set of W550i white faceplates for $10...if they'll fit then I'll order them.
Now if they sell those QuickShare stickers that I can paste over the Cingular mark at the bottom of the keypad...then it'll be just all right.

Posted by: dragonx6x

^Yes their exactly alike only internal differences.

Posted by: naviwilliams

...is there a way to simply switch between modes? Presently, I have it connected via USB, and I upload my songs.

When am done, I just want to switch back to mobile mode. But, to do this, I have to remove it from the desk stand - doing this automatically reboots the phone, and then choose mobile mode. But, why?

Posted by: mbranscum

Quick question...when I do a voice dial and the phone repeats the name I say through the speaker it's very loud. Is there a way to turn that down?

Posted by: nissand

Not happy w/this phone at all. BT doesn't work. Tried pairing it w/a brand new one I bought and it didn't work "no handsfree found." Same w/trying to pair it w/my "old" SE HBH300.

Also, not being able to answer/end call upon swivel is a seriously mistake in the design of this thing. It renders it next to useless to even swivel it open while picking up! Ever seen a slider phone which doesn't pick up/end upon open/close?! It's annoying the hell out of me combined w/the BT not working.

Unfortunately, I bought it brand new Cingular branded off of fleabay. I don't know what recourse I have, if any.

find a Cingular customer and try to get them to claim the warranty. the Bluetooth not working is probably a sign of a defective unit (or user error). have them claim they bought the phone from a Cingular store.

as for the swivel, you should have researched or tested this before your purchased the phone.

Posted by: dragonx6x

^^Hes right. Im hoping the swivel thing gets adressed in a firmware upgrade or maybe a hack?

Anyway im happy with my purchase. GREAT phone.

Posted by: nissand

Yeh, I'm looking into trying something out w/Cing.

As for the swivel, there was no mention of it in any review that I saw here or elsewhere :-/ I presumed it was a basic thing...it can't even be called a "feature." Flips answer calls when flipped. Sliders answer calls when slid up. Swivels don't ...do anything? Oh well, as long as I get the BT issue resolved, I won't care about the answer on swivel.

except for speakerphone or bluetooth, you can't talk on a flip phone while closed.

the w600 doesn't need to be open to talk on it. i usually don't bother to open mine.

Posted by: naviwilliams

...does anyone know why sometimes when I get emails, I get the vibrate notification, but on the screen (in screen saver mode) it normally shows the envelope icon with the at (@) sign; but, sometimes it does not? When it does not, I have to go into it to check, is it voicemail, text/sms or an email...

No big deal really, just wondering...

You can no longer get to the silent mode by pressing C. Need to open the swivel and press # now.

Posted by: kkj1961

You can also just tap the power button and select "Turn On Silent".

Posted by: kkj1961

I don't typically open mine to talk either. Actually, since my home is in a pocket of bad coverage, I get better reception by not opening the phone. (Since the antenna is pointing downward with the phone swiveled open, I guess).

Posted by: quillhill

I talk with the swivel open on longer conversations because it's more comfortable for me. But, on short conversations I just leave it closed. It kinda surprised me that opening the swivel doesn't answer the call, but it's not awful. The phone has so many other wonderful, redeeming qualities that one little design flaw is acceptable. The w600i truly feels like an upgrade to me, which hasn't happened to me in nearly two years. It's just a breath of fresh air. Aaaaaah.

yes, it does. you have to VIEW the meeting though.

Plus, shoulder talking is only possible with the phone closed anyway

Posted by: bodeh6

I like to talk with the phone closed. My fingers are positioned so that the highest one is touching the SE logo on the back.

Posted by: heda

Quick (and probably very dumb) question:

If I order the W600i from Premier, can I try for the $100 rebate posted at the regular Cingular.com site? I checked the T&C, it says:

Terms and Conditions: A) cingular VISA Reward Card Offer valid only with the purchase of a qualified cingular device with activation on a qualified service plan from a participating cingular Wireless Retail Store, DMDR, Authorized Agent or cingular.com between November 6, 2005 and December 24, 2005.

Posted by: VTECaddict

you can try. worse that will happen is the rebate will be denied and you wont have the UPC on the phone box anymore. best thing that can happen is you get $100 back.

regarding the swivel...i only open it when i need to use the keypad, otherwise its closed all the time. i thought its a nice feature that the scrolling will speed up as you hold the up/down button while going through your phonebook contacts.

What's the return policy on no-comittment equipment purchases? $25 restocking fee?

Upgrade twice in the year and sell one for at least $300-$325 and boom you have a W600i at -$150.

Posted by: dragonx6x

Anyone think eventually the part that locks the Swivel will run down and make it loose when closed?

Posted by: bodeh6

I have a question about the port on the bottom. When you plug in the USB cord or charger, to take the cord out you just pull it straight out, right? I like the one on the T637 where you just push up on and pull it out at an angle better.

it pulls straight out.

Posted by: lucke

ok, regarding the swivel open to answer. its pointless because of where the mic is. since the mic is under the cover, and just a little bit lower than the d-pad, there is absolutely no point to need it open to talk (unless you like holding a larger/taller phone). now if the mic were where the antenna loop was, then swiveling open would be needed as the loop would be closer to the mouth.

my parents still think i'm yelling into the phone when i talk to them, so i wouldn't want the mic to be any closer to my mouth anyways.

Where are you guys getting mp3 files? I need some help. I have Napster but it appears that you have to subscribe to a $14.95/mo service to download to the player. The w600i is not a supported device. When I tried to convert one of their wma files to mp3 and transfer it to the phone it said something about being a copy protected file. Whet's the best place to get them? I really don't mind paying if I can get a good selection.

Does anyone else find this phone uncomfortable to talk on? I don't really like the way the earpiece is. It's only gotten worse as I've used it more... It's hard to hold the phone so that I'm comfortable, I can hear who I'm talking to, and they can hear me.

Well if you live in San Fran then you should have a rainbow colored cover. jk

My fav color is Blue so that is what is on my W600i.

Ok, someone using a V551 (Cingular, same as me) sent me a text message with a picture (downloaded picture of a cartoon kissing).

Anyway, I got it, opened it, and the picture is NOTHING like what the person sent. I look in the person outbox of SMS, and the picture is very different.

Does, anyone know if the w600i changed the picture because it could not handle the format etc?
If, yes this is very strange...

Haven't seen this discussed much but the web browsing on this phone is awesome. The built in browser is based on the Series 60 Netfront structure. Also if you haven't installed Opera Mini..your missing out big time!!!

Yes...it's great coming from a series 60 device. I can access some full web sites from the built in browser...but do a serch in the forums Opera Mini. It'll do any web site out there including secure bank sites..etc. I have unlimited medianet.

iTunes. Buy them as protected AAC files, burn onto blank CDR, and rerip them to MP3's.

Yeah it is very fast on WAP. Plus the Cingular homepage looks a lot better on the W600i then the T637 I used to have. I really do love this phone.

Wirelessly posted (Opera/8.01 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/1.1.2421/hifi/nordic/int; SonyEricsson W550i; en; U; ssr))

Yeah, it's pretty quick...

Download through limewire, or go the more legal route and download off of napster for $15 a month.

Go here, download it, and copy it to your mobile (to a folder). Then on the mobile, go to "My Stuff", and to the folder you placed it in. Select it, and that will install it...

Thanks, I downloaded it but was not able to open it : Java virtual machine launcher error.
Is there another place to download this?

...do a google search for it, or alternatively go back to the website, it gives a link (wap) that can be used directly from the mobile to download...

ps: try to see if you can run one of the games, i.e. to see if Java will run or not...

Is there a virtual keypad on the W600? It would be very useful if you are on a call (and have the phone closed) and need to input numbers. For example when you are calling a customer service toll free number.

If not, does anyone know of an application that does this?

...it does not have a virtual keypad, but you can still get into the contacts etc, without opening the phone. But, you're right, if you want to enter a number you just saw on a billboard or something, then yes, you have to open the phone...

Downloading Opera Mini is easy!

1. Point your phone's WAP browser to http://mini.opera.com/
2. Click on Get Opera Mini
3. Answer 'Yes' to all installation messages and enjoy browsing the full Web, right on your mobile phone!

Anyone able to tell me how to turn on predictive text input on this phone?

Posted by: rg1

Page 20 of the manual says to press and hold the STAR (*) key to switch input methods. I'd go with that.

Thanks, that was much easier.
Is there a way to link the main internet button to go directly to Opera?

...go to create a new message. While in it, go to MORE, then scroll down (or up) to Dictionary (T9), select, then choose ON...
