There has been scattering of information. I saw one not too long ago, it is tiny! The mic is in the bottom of the phone, and it does have GPRS. According to the owner, it performs suprisingly well. If it is anything like the GD87 as far as reception, than it is pretty darn good. Because it is triband, I am wondering if it will come to the US.

I have this handy and it's damn tiny. However, it fits quite appropriate in my palm. Unfortunately, it lacks a lot of features like plain VOICEMAIL under the button "1". All prehistoric phones have it. Also, it doesn't have GPRS and I'm still trying to setup the WAP with Cingular settings and no luck so far. The RF is fine, better than Ericsson T39m and Ericsson R520m. I hope it won't be realeased in the States or Europe, that is why I got it.

How are your programming the WAP bez GPRS? Does Cingular offer CSD? According to one of the russian websites, the mobile does offer GPRS. I thought the guy who owned the phone that I saw said it has GPRS (http://www.sotovik.ru/rating/pgd55.htm). I do know that T-mobile terminated their data roaming agreement with Cingular. Is it possible that you are roaming? It is my recollection that the setup for Cingular GPRS is odd.

lost rebel-should i wait to see if it comes to the US, or is it better to just get an unlocked one?

If you really want one, the I would get an unlocked one. There is only rumors about it coming to the US. There is a chance that it never will.

I was in Bangkok last week. The GD 55 (dual band) no 1900 GSM was on sale for US $200 at MBK (fourth floor) to the back right side. They did not carry or have the tri band version. They told me it was tri band but i pulled the manual and it did not list the GSM 1900 band in the specs. They will have the GD88 in Thailand in a a few weeks.

SOTOVIK is full of !!! They've always provided the incorrect information and I ignore their sense of knowledge. At Panasonic Mobile it states clearly that GD55 does NOT have GPRS, neither it has IrDA. However, it has WAP cherez CSD. Still confused how to setup correctly Cingular WAP settings in GD55. The WAP menu is simplified compared to Ericssons or Nokias.
Regarding the manual for GD55. Yes, mine also states only 900 Mhz and 1800 Mhz frequencies for GSM. Nevertheless, the phone itself has 1900 Mhz option in the Network Menu.
