Maybe I have no idea what I am doing, just purchased a faceplate I have no idea where to start to take the old one off to put on the new one without feeling that I am going to break my phone, Has anyone put a new faceplate on there KOI and if so how did you do it, so I won't purposely break my phone and verizon will refuse to give me another one for free

For what it's worth, I had emailed Kyocera's tech support with the same question. Here's the reply I got:

"The faceplate on the KX2 phone is not user replaceable and any repairs would require you to take the phone into your Service Provider or local Radio Shack to arrange for repairs."

That response made me a little nervous! I too found a few cool looking faceplates online. A few of them required a special screwdriver which fits the tri-headed screw shape, which implies that you need to take the whole thing apart.

I have an extended warranty on mine, so I'll probably live with the current faceplate, and not void it...

Here's the way you change the faceplate. Open the Koi, and on the backside of the front screen is a panel with 2 different colors on either side. These are stickers. Pull them off. They're about a quarter of an inch wide and not quite 2 inches long and they are stuck on either side. Under these stick on pieces are screws. You need a "Y" screwdriver to remove these screws and all the others on the faceplate. The T-6 you see that people tell you to buy is only necessary if you need to remove the other screws on the dial-pad side of the phone. Once you get inside that part of the phone, you need a T-6. For the faceplate side, all you need is the "Y", and this is in a security set; I found it at a hardware store. Anyway, pull those stickers off, take out the screws, and "pop" off the LONGGGGGGG metal sidings. They actually pop on an off. Be careful; they're nothing put plastic which fits into a slot and clicks in. So light pressure on one side to push it up and pop the opposite side out, then jiggle out of the other side. After that, it is very very easy. Remove any of the other screws you see, take off the front panel, put on the new one, put any screws back in except the side screws for holding in the border. Then pop back on the sides (borders), put border screws back in and tape disguise back on top of screws. You're done. I did the keypad side also. It was not hard, but after doing so, I popped off, accidentally, this tiny little spring that has something to do with the camera, and now the camera doesn't work as the spring won't open the lens anymore. Wasn't worth it for that. I should have just left the back alone as it was fine; but anyway, that's how you do the front. The 2 pieces of the phone - the front sliding and the keypad sections DO NOT COME APART FROM ONE ANOTHER. They stay as a whole. Remember - no T-6 screwdriver necessary for the faceplate replacement only. The "Y" screwdriver is the one you want. I bought the T6 first and couldn't figure out why it wouldn't work, until I finally found someone who mentioned the "Y" screwdriver. I bought it online and received it in about 4 days; that did the trick. Good luck.
