No T-Mobile Dataplan w/ Sidekick 2?

Hey guys,

I'm on a Family Plan on T-Mobile, and I'm very interested in tossing my plain jane Samsung E715 for a Sidekick II. However, an additional 20 dollars onto my monthly plan for unlimited internet, texting, email, etc is just not possible at this time. If you don't opt for adding the unlimited data plan, can you still use the phone for calls and such (I love the big screen and full keyboard for texting)? Will I still be able to recieve updates and download ringtones and the sort without unlimited internet? Or better yet could I purchase the 5.99 unlimited internet for this phone?

Thanks in advance.

Is the AIM client on the phone SMS based or internet? I have the $14.99 unlimited text/pix/video, and I dont want to lose it as I wouldn't be using the SKII all the time and also as I pay my own bill and really don't want the extra cost.

Just to let you all know...without a sidekick plan, you can't get unlimited text messages. What many people don't know is the Sidekick runs through Danger's servers, so all those services, internet, email, and text messaging are all run through Danger. If you notice, text messaging from a sidekick always gets to recieved before text messaging from another phone...all because of danger. So without the 20 dollar data plan, the phone is pretty pointless.

Hmm.. I used my friends fido SIM with his unlimited Text Message option into my hiptop 2 and his text messages receive just fine WITHOUT the $20 Fido Hiptop Data option, actually, they come in the same speed with the HIPTOP $20 Data plan too.

Cancel the $14.99 text plan & add the $20 data plan. It's only $5 extra.

FALSE. Text messaging is sent via the GSM not GPRS (thats why theres a SMSC/Short Message Service Centre #). That is why you can send text even when the servers are down or even while roaming

Since fido and Robbers got rid of their 50$ unlimited data plans, and came with hilarious new data plans that will just kill your wallet with pay per use 3sent/Kb of nothing-5Mb for 25$/month I just got a hip top with 20$ unlimited data for my personnal and some business use. The problem is that hip top really sucks at displaying html pages and is really unusable for what I do. Anyone figured out how I would be able to work this plan by putting my sim in a pocketpc or other device and use the danger data plan...
