Where can I go to buy a new phone without going through Cingular? 
I need the phone to be compatible with the Cingular network and my sim card. In addition, what is an unlocked phone?

You could check ebay.Also an unlocked phones is a phone that takes any carriers sim card.

I second ebay. You can usually get good deals on ebay, but you do need to watch out for scams. Other places are howardforums.com.com, mobilebee.com, etc. You could also buy directly from nokia, motorola, sony ericsson, or any of the other phone manufacturers.
