Hey

I have the Jap 903SH with the Beta unlock. I have cingular service with the data plan. I am trying to see if I can download e-mails. Here's my problem.

I downloaded the english version of the users manual from the vodaphone.jp website. In the manual it says the POP and SMTP settings are under <messaging> <e-mail settings> then a list of items of which includes POP server and SMTP server settings. BTW, the english section of the japanese manual that came with the phone says this as well. In reality, my phone goes, <messaging> <mail settings> then a list of items including general settings, SMS settings, MMS settings, My folders and Speed Mail List. I'm a little confused. Am I missing something here? Could someone check and see what theirs says?

Also, How come my phone won't make a sound when I get a voice mail? I have it set up to make a sound. <sound settings> <ringtone/ringvideos> <for new message> then the sound effect. All I get is the icon that pops up on the screen when an voice mail shows up. All the volume settings are as high as they can go.

Thanks,

Ken

Sorry but the JP version doesn't have support for POP/SMTP based email, only SMS and MMS. The English manual Vodafone JP provide on their website is in fact the manual for the Sharp 903 EU version (I'm sure it says that there), which is slightly different to the JP version and which does have POP/SMTP email. I couldn't find any reference to POP/SMTP email in the Abridged English Manual section of the Japanese one by the way.

Bummer! The Euro version is starting to sound better.......

No reason to believe it wasn't the Japanese manual. The file is 903sh_e_link.pdf. The SH in 903 is the designator for the Japanese version correct?

Brain fart on the paper Japanese manual. I did see it in referenced in two independant locations. I just can't remember where the other one was.

Nah not necessarily... Sharp and Vodafone use and remove the SH wherever they see fit, it seems. But because the JP version is always referred to as the 903SH, it's generally considered that way, yes.

And the link for the English language manual on Vodafone JP's website does say this:

"Please note, this manual was created for Sharp 903, sold in the UK, and thus may include information/features specific to that model and exclude Japan-specific services, etc."

So you were warned, heh heh.

To anyone who went to the Japanese website, clicked on link that suggests it's an English version of the Japanese manual, who doesn't have time to read every little disclaimer on a web page, who downloaded it, printed it out, read it cover to cover without finding any statements to suggest that it was anything but the English version of the Japanese manual, guess what? It's the Euro version........ : )
