Posted by: yis903unposubl

i don't know ASF, but I can help u with 3GP (which is better IMO).

Posted by: wai_lai416

no... asf is a lot better quality then 3gp ~ 3gp is smaller in size though ~

Posted by: wai_lai416

i've done both ~ 3gp is smaller in size ~ the picture quality is so-so ~ that's on the highest setting ~ asf i can get it DVD like quality ~ though the file is a LOT bigger ~ u can convert asf files using sd moviestage ~

Use Panasonic Movie Stage

http://www.debbybrown.f2s.com/sdguide/layout.htm

Posted by: mauvanilla

Could you please list the tools to convert video and dvd to the formats that 903sh can play?

Posted by: UncleAllEvil

Sorenson Squezze 4 if you want to convert into 3GP format (if you will do this properly you will have same video quality as ASF with much better sound quality).
For short guide how to use Sorenson search forum. Panasonic MediaStage for SD Video (ASF), very good video quality but low sound quality and mono. If you want to make files compatible with both 902 & 903 you have to use MediaStage and make SD Videos only.

Hi, I've seen that link (http://www.debbybrown.f2s.com/sdguide/ ) and it uses to many steps. After that, I've done several trys for better quality and simplicity,
on my 902 I found out that the best results were done in 2 steps: with this converter: dvd 2 avi converter (www.dvd-converter.net/download.htm [name: zz Serial: 18BAA+AE555+494AB+A5589+417CC]) and Sdmoviestage ( http://www.knives-swords.com/phone/.../MovieStage.zip ).
With this, the process of converting a dvd is easier and can be done smoothly. All the adjustments are done just the first time and that's it.

Instructions for dvd 2 avi converter:
I increase the volume from the original 5 to 7 and the result is great. Regarding the image, I found out that Cinepak codec by Radius, atlhough takes longer, gets a better result.
So far, no probs with audio, but to make the picture really in full screen, had to change the res to 320X240 on the program itself.
I tried Cinepak codec by Radius and Microsoft Video 1 successfully. Also had to set sound to PCM 44, 16bits, mono
The sdmoviestage has no problem with it (check the instructions on the 1st link mentioned)

SDMediastage produce worse results than SdMoviestage.

You can also use 3gp converter for simple conversions of videoclips. in my 902 it wont get fullscreen, but sound is much better... ( http://www.nurs.or.jp/%7Ecalcium/3g...onverter031.zip )
When in 3gp mode (you can choose between 3gp qcif/qvga and asf), it has a much higher sound quality and is stereo. Therefore I'd consider it for music videos, cause although the image ain't fullscreen, it as an extremly higher sound quality.
Regarding videos, as far as I noticed, the pack dvd2avi/SD-MovieStage is far better.

Try it and tell us how it goes...

just got a 1gig minisd, so ill be trying both 3gp and dvd2avi/SD-MovieStage methods as you described, using the same dvd movie for both on my 903. Ill post the results!

Posted by: burton159

Caccum, when you download the 3gpp converter it asks you to choose which version, from about a hundred options. do you know which one is the best to choose for a 903SH?
thanks

Posted by: rex5272

IM GOING MADDD!!!!! I STILL DONT F***IN GET IT TO FREAKIN WORKK!!!

HELLPPP ME PPLSS BEFORE I THROW MY VAIO AND MY 902 AWAY !!!

Posted by: CACCUM

Hi,
Burton, Unless you mean the software version (3.1), I think I use the option "general: 3gpp+aac general setting with xvid encoder" and then "qcif high quality 15fps stereo", but I'm not sure, now... Last time I used it was to try on another phone and had to change its config... This to make 3gp files. (I'll try it again tomorrow or so and post afterwards)...
To convert to asf you have to use "General SD-VIDEO(ASF) with G.726 encoder. EXPERIMENTAL". I rather use the other method to create asf files... quality is way better and it pays the effort. Besides, if you go with my option of using dvd 2 svcd 2 avi + Sd Moviestage, it's no big deal (apart from the first time config) and the results are great.
Note that I have a 902 and it may be different from the 903 results.

Rex, Relax! take a deep breath and explain us what's your prob (as fas as I know it might even be the power button)
If you're having trouble with tmpeg, I can get you another codec (a friend of mine used to have a vaio and had a few issues with the d*mn codecs)...

Posted by: totaltoanage

Rex: do you have all the software from the 902 sd video website?

Goldwave is for making the video louder by making a separate .wmv file.

TMPGencode is for recoding the video with conjunction w/ the .wmv so that it a whole .avi

Moviestage is for changing the .avi from TMPG to .asf format that the 902 understands.

The second best method that i suggest is with 3gp converter which i have provided. just drop any video format into it and select General SD-VIDEO(ASF) with G.726 encoder. EXPERIMENTAL. also select QVGA high quality stereo. Select where you want it to go eg desktop. Done. If it doesnt work then do the SD Video method which gives the best result.

I did my first DVD, but because Im a complete rookie at it, I had to follow the steps on this website, (http://www.debbybrown.f2s.com/sdguide/ ) , otherwise I had no idea what i was doing.

anyway it worked very well straight up, except for a couple of problems I hope you guys might know about:

1. The directors narration is playing over the top of the whole movie. I checked that the narration feature was set to `off` in the DVD`s Main Menu, and you couldnt hear it when i played the DVD for the first rip. But all the copies had the narration playing. So im wondering how to stop the narration from coming out in the ripped copies?

2. I want to remove the black margins (letterbox view) at the top and bottom of the screen, so it can be in full screen on my phone. In Part3 of the website instructions it talks about going into the Clip Frame settings on the Encoder software and making changes there. Unfortunately I have a Japanese PC and so the Encoder software is installed in Japanese. The Clip Frame settings are beyond my Japanese abilities! So:

a) Is there anyway of downloading an English only version of that software (TMPGEnc MPegEncoder) , or
b) does anyway know how i can tell my Japanese PC to stop automatically installing the Japanese version of the software?

Thanks in advance for any help !

Posted by: totaltoanage

1. I use a different ripper so i dont know about your situation..Imtoo DVD ripper.

2.

Settings then Clip frame.

Custom will allow you to change what lengths and width you want. Fiddle with it until you like what you see. For 16:9 movies i set it to ~350 x 210. 4:3 sshould be default 320 x 240

Hope this helps

Guys, you ain't reading the posts on the other forum... Do that.
Total, the method you use was the first one I did, but it's much more step divided and its results ain't better than the method I last told you. With the same quality, it takes less time adds subtitles, and above all it's done in two steps (the program rips the movie, enhances the audio, adds fixed subtitles and converts it to an avi that sd movietage can read and re-convert straight to asf. It can't be any better).
Try the D*mn thing (Notice: this is not the dvd2avi you use on the 1st method - this is a copmpletly different software...)
I'll post it here again so you don't have the trouble of looking for it...

dvd 2 avi converter (www.dvd-converter.net/download.htm [name: zz Serial: 18BAA+AE555+494AB+A5589+417CC])
Sdmoviestage ( http://www.knives-swords.com/phone/.../MovieStage.zip )
(if you don't know how to work with Moviestage, check the instructions about it on
http://www.debbybrown.f2s.com/sdguide/layout.htm)
Add these registries after installing SDMovieStage (the specific configs for 902/3 made by Englash to optimize results):
http://www.debbybrown.f2s.com/sdgui...tage_normal.reg
http://www.debbybrown.f2s.com/sdgui...estage_high.reg

You'll see it pays of with great results
3GP is good too, but, in my opinion, is more for simple clips than to an whole dvd movie.

Thanks very much Total and Caccum for all the help. Ive been trying it with both methods and going well but not perfect yet.

Caccum,
right now im trying the dvd2avi software that you mentioned. thanks for the link, and its definitely a much easier program as you say.
But, if i want to cut off the top and bottom black margins on a 16:9DVD (like Total showed me in the other software) how can i do it with your software? I didnt see any settings like Clip Frame where i could do that??

Appreciate your help again!

Posted by: burton159

well ive just spent about 6hrs tonight trying to get that software to work Caccum. After ripping the file I open Moviestage, select the AVI file and press Convert. I choose the 902SH setting and press ok. Every single time it comes up with the same error message:
`This File Format not supported.`

I have tried every possible variation in the settings, including the ones you mentioned, but it still isnt recognised by Moviestage. I even reloaded all software etc. im using ntsc, and i tried all the different settings there, but maybe the program doesnt work too well with ntsc and moviestage?

Anyway, i got the other software (debbybrown website), to work perfectly, so its not a problem with my dvd, or moviestage software etc.

if you have any secrets or screenshots of the settings that you use to make it work with moviestage then id appreciate it.

Posted by: totaltoanage

Use SV-AV100 MPEG4 High Quality at 15 FPS. Thats the best setting the 902 accepts probably 903 as well i havent tested it out yet.

Caccum-- i havent tried your method because i dont rip DVDs often only sometimes, most of the time i just get the movie from miniopera and convert it. I have been doing this ever since the 902 came out soo im not a noob at it as you can see i have donated a few to this forum.

Anyway ill look into your method and see if theres any change but typically 750 kbp @ 15 FPS is the best setting for Sharp phones. Even if you convert it to eg 24 FPS the phone doesnt playback in 24 but rather 15 FPS.

How long does it take you to convert a normal DVD? im using Imtoo dvd ripper and it normally takes how ever long the movie is the rip which is about an hour and half, i rip it when i go to sleep.

Posted by: burton159

thanks Total, i tried all those settings on movie stage, but it still didnt work.

when i used the debbybrown software to rip and encode, there was no problem with moviestage, so either;
im doing something wrong with Caccums software, or it doesnt rip ntsc too well for use on moviestage.

im going back to the debbybrown software now, and will do a whole dvd for the first time.

but if Caccums software worked it would be much easier (less steps) and includes the subtitles.

Posted by: totaltoanage

Werd. His method is for DVD to avi. Debbybrown AKA Ash's method from Mobile-review converts all types of clips.

Did you rip the DVD yet burton?

Hi guys,

First total, I know that you are quite active and I even learned with some of your posts. The thing is, sometimes, when you try something and it works, we tend to stick to it and ignore everything else, even if it is easier... I know I do...
I don't think it'll allow converting from any other thing than a dvd... it might be a limitation...
Burton, I really don't understand why it is failling to you. I use Pal, but I don't think that's the problem. Now I have my desktop occupied converting a divx movie to dvd, but tomorrow, when I have the time, I promisse I'll take a look into it and copy my configs to this thread. I think I recall I had to do some adjustmens regarding the codec or something but can't be sure at this time...
I checked on a previous post I did when I was trying it out and I wrote this:
Quote:
"I found out several configurations that can be used. Still testing, but basically, all you have to do is pickup a dvd and select the file (it has the time with it). then you check the subtitles (I also increased the volume a little bit - some steps like this olny need to be done once), then you check if you want the entire file or part of it (like a chapter or a few mins), then you select one of the various video codecs available (I tried Cinepak codec by Radius and Microsoft Video 1 successfully) Also had to put sound to PCM 44, 16bits, mono - don't ask why... Then check the resolution and that's it.
The sdmoviestage has no problem with it for as long as you use pcm for audio...

I guess it has here most of my configurations... But still, I'll give it a check tomorrow.

CC

P.S.- this software I'm using now to convert the divx also works with multiple choices... if these results please me, I'll give it a try too... It's the cucusoft converter, does anyone tried it before?

Posted by: burton159

Thanks Caccum,
I saw that post a while ago, and ive tried all those settings.
Generally, everything seems to work fine with the dvd2avi software (no warnings or problems etc) but when I need to convert the file in Moviestage, the avi file is not supported.
anyway, if you find something, please let me know. in the meantime im using the other system (debbybrown) which including Goldwave, now has 5 software programs. realy needs to be easier.

Posted by: totaltoanage

hahah theres no such thing as easy for movie conversions for sharp phones..its worth it thoughh.

Posted by: burton159

guys, someone mentioned that you can change a 3gp or asf file (ie. a file converted from `3gp converter`) to full screen using the settings on the 903.

I ripped a file from a DVD using Smartripper and then converted it to a 3gp file and put it into myitems/video on the sd card. when i change to `full screen` on the handsets settings, it makes no difference to the size of the clip!?

to make it work, is there a particular folder i need to put the 3gp file in? Or is there some conversion setting in the 3gp Converter software that I have to use so that the full screen function on the phone will work? Or does it have to be an asf file converted from the 3gp converter instead of a 3gp file?

This is the last thing I need to sort out and then Im going to post all the info from all the rookie testing Ive done!

Posted by: CACCUM

Hi Again, I keep telling you this works!!!

I noticed today that you can do a segment of the video, although it's not really pratical 'cause you have to check the time on another program... (there's no preview)
Anyway, try this configuration:
1st step
choose dvd or vob file
2nd step
Video Paremters
choose segment (the movie or the extras)
output frame rate (I have 25pal, but you may try ntsc if you want)
Audio Papameters
language you want volume - 7 instead of original 5 (the loudspeakers will thank you...)
Subtitles - yours
Deinterlace - none
3rd step (warning message about pulldown - maybe it's due to the divx conversion - select ok)
4th step
Segment Select
Choose all dvd or the section you want
5th Step
Output Setting (the one that matters ! ! !)
Video Cinepak codec by radius - x on enable video
Audio ACM ( inside this choose: PCM 44.1 16bits mono - this one is important) - Use ACM
Resolution: 320X240 volume limited to infinite
Zoom full
Start ripping...
(i'm doing it as I write this... zzzzz)
I ripped it and the result is great
Then passed it to asf with moviestage, no sweat!
Camon, follow my instructions and go for it.
If you want me to, I can post you the results. (I made it from a forrest gump movie in divx converted to dvd - still had the vob files on my pc... only did 1,5mins. though...)

Posted by: CACCUM

On dvd2...2avi, on the output configuration, do this:

Set Video to Video Cinepak codec by radius - put an x on enable video
on option Audio ACM ( select the button and inside this choose: PCM 44.1 16bits mono - this one is important)
select Use ACM
set resolution to: 320X240
let volume limited to infinite
on the zoom option, set Zoom full.

Is it clear now? If not, post what exactly happens which error do you get or when does it freeze. You might have a codec issue or even a software confilt... I did this for a few times now and works like a charm to me.
(is your pc a Vaio? It is known to have some problems with this type of softwares...)

I tried to do it too but I kept getting some error when It was about to convert. I forget what it said now.

Posted by: CACCUM

How am I supposed to help you guys if you don't even tell me what exactly is wrong?!?
I Don't get it... Am I the only one who's sussessfully is using this process? Perhaps I have added another codec for another software and that's what you're all missing and complaining about... I must admit I only tried it on my desktop, so...
Either way, you're not helping when you claim it doesn't work, but don't say what...

audio can only be played at low freq i think at 8khz which is really weak. im pretty sure it can be better but Moviestage wouldnt allow it. also if you try to set the volume louder with a program and play it back on your phone, it crackles the speakers which isnt a good idea.

sorry kind of off of the topic but does anyone know how to make sd-audio ?! i have a panasonic dvd car deck that takes a sd card and it also requires the videos to be mp4 asf sd-video files in order for the deck play the files. for the mp3s it has to be sd-audio files!

i guess using this guide you guys put up the videos will play but how do you make sd-audio files ?!

Posted by: CACCUM

To Modist and Bttm,

Have you tried with other videos (created with the old method or simply wmv converted)? Could it be due to a card lock? Did you do the media scan prior to that? Does it allow conversion (option on the right side)? What is the result of your avi file (characteristics - you put your mouse pointer over the file in the explorer mode and it tells you stuff like bitrate, screen size and if it is protected or not)
Could you be missing codecs? You can get them all from here:
http://www.avi-vcd.com/codecdownloa...6026_allin1.zip
or choose which ones you want here:
http://support.cucusoft.com/

Maybe that's the thing...

I ask you again, to read the steps one by one. One thing I noticed, is that if you leave sound in stereo mode or something like that, is enough for Sd-Moviestage to reject it...

CC

Posted by: CACCUM

To Jack D12,

Did you try SD-Mediastage? it's in the same place Sd-Moviestage was... I never tried it, but it might work for you...

CC

Posted by: bttm

i did follow instructions to the letter codecs i think are installed as to that point i can play vids does movie stage need a certain codec if so which ones
i put in to movie stage a sd video that i created with 3gp converter and moviestage locked that as well and wouldnt let me convert

Posted by: jack_d12

u mean mediastage is in the same zip file ?! i'm downloading moviestage right now. thanks alot ..

Posted by: CACCUM

Hi all,

To Bttm: check this link where it teaches you to work with moviestage. http://www.debbybrown.f2s.com/sdguide/ms.htm
It's part of the article I mentioned earlier that teaches the conversion process with tmpeg and all that other stuff. Although I desagree with Englash about several things, these article is quite complete and will help you understand how it all works.
I definitely recommend you to install that codec pack... (it doesn't seem to have any spyware or publ. in it, so it is ok...)
The locking thing you have is because there is something wrong with your moviestage specifically. Either it is missing codecs, or it's serial ain't right, or something like that. If it was a problem related to dvd2...2avi, it should have worked out with the other software... Did you add the registry files and all as you're told to?

CC

Posted by: CACCUM

Hi again,

to Jack, For sometime now, there was a discussion about which would be better: mediastage or moviestage, to the purpose of converting videos for the 902. After a while they came up to the conclusion that moviestage was the one to go, but by then I had already downloaded both
Now I'm sloooooooowly uploading mediastage (130Mb) for you to try it out. It might be the thing you've been looking for... Tonight, Iwhen I get back home, I'll have the link for you, so seat back and relax... while I do the dirty work, lol

I`m using Mediastage, and I`ve downloaded presets for sharp 902 but it looks like they`re not working properly. I have glitches in sound
When I choose D-Snap (SV-AV20/30) High quality (15fps/750kbps) setting movies sometimes have glitches, sometimes not, also sometimes audio is muting but when I choose Sharp 902SH High Quality (15fps/512kbps) there are glitches all the time Same situation with Sharp 902SH (High Settings/30fps) preset.
These presets are from: http://www.debbybrown.f2s.com/sdguide/layout.htm
What`s wrong?

Posted by: totaltoanage

for sd video you cant have the audio over 8mhz. go to goldwave and resample it to 7900 mhz. then reencode it with tmpgencode, this should fix your sound.

Posted by: CACCUM

Guys... what are you talking about?!? UncleAllEvil, it has been proven that moviestage is better. Gliches issues are solvedn, plus, for those optimized options you should go first to the convert option and only after the conversion is done, copy it to the card. If you want to do it straight, go for the D-Snap (AV25-AV50) Normal @ 500kbps 320X240 15fps. it'll work on moviestage, at least...
I also use the Sharp 902 predefined on the convertion menu and go for the high settings (512kbps @ 320X240 15fps).
Regarding the sound, 16bits mono (for as long as it is PCM) will work with the software I told you about...

CC

Posted by: CACCUM

At last! ! ! I thought my connection was fast enough, but uploading 130mb made me think otherwise... (specially cause I had to do it twice...)
Anyway, Jack, Here it is (check the link below). Hope it'll do it for you.
(For those who haven't read the all thread, this ain't for sharp 902... for our phones we use sdmoviestage instead.)

Posted by: jack_d12

thank you soooo much CACCUM !!! just one other question do you need the panasonic sd card reader !!! ?!?!? cuz if i do that would really suck !

Posted by: CACCUM

Hi Jack,

No, I don't think you need that. Any card reader will do (at least, that's how it is with moviestage... I guess mediastage is the same). As I told you before, I didn't actually try it, so can't be sure...
Anyway, try it and then tell us...

It's only one minute video, but it was done straight with this software (dvd2svcd2avi +moviestage) with no problems at all...
Check it out.

I'm in the market for a phone and I'm considering the V802SH (It's only One Yen). Is it possible to make videos for the V802SH in the same way as for the V902SH? I'd get the V902SH, but its practically impossible to find. I've checked the manuals for both and the pages describing the media player are identical.

Wrong file names. All SD Video files has to be named like this: MOLxxx.ASF where xxx is number of file. Use settings with (direct) in 3GP convereter and you will see what I mean.

Turn off "hide file extension" option in folders settings, maybe new files have names like this: MOLxxx.ASF.ASF
