"$399 1 year" $450 at most
"$349 2 year" $400 at most

sorry about that, but it still doesn't make any sense why he is able to get this phone and no one else can--what guarantees are there in place that he won't take the money and run since this is considered to be a higher end phone? If it is in fact the CINGULAR 8125 and not the other versions dont you think you would find it on places like ebay or the like? The lowest one I have found is around 650.00 USD and that's for the imate or qtek--the one that is like the 8125 is the dopod 838 and that goes for roughly 725 and up.

No apologies needed. He would have to be pretty ballsy to pull a scam. First the store is located to the city police department, 2 I work for the city and he sees me all the time working in the police department. Insince there is one person interested smith I will contact you with any further details. He advised me that it is available on the business side but he can still get for me. I will leave here in a few to back to the police department to work on a ticket ( IT )but will stop in there and get more details.

let us know how it works out--if it IS legit, then yes, I would be very interest.

Boy, won't you be depressed if the pricing information turns out to be as accurate as the release date information.

no, not really--how I look at it, I change phones all the time--I know I can sell my current phone for about 425-450 with all accessories--so that's my budget--for me spending my budget is what matters for me--not making money

I hope Free Man is right though.

I would listen to I have a phone, he knows what he is talking about. Usually when he post something its pretty acurate...well as acurate as Cingular can be lol. Thanks for the info I have a phone, I apreciate it. But I still am keeping to my "it will be out when its out" phliosophy...its never failed me hahaha.

I live in the Tampa bay area, who is this guy you are talking about. Maybe I know him? Secondly please do find out more information, it would be nice to have a legit retailer for this device at a location that is close to me for once haha.

So let me guess....another "release date" comes and goes and no sign of the 8125

I just returned from TPD Omega and dropped his business card in my car so I don't have it but his Carlo if that sounds familiar. The guy said that basically insince he is a dealer he has a different avenue of obtaining the phones than Cingular. He checked on his PC the order phone of all phones he is able to obtain and sell. (and of course I couldn't see the price he gets it for nor the company but I did see the list ) He also told me that he would give us a price break on orders min of 10 he asked me to email him with how many phones we are looking at. He will then write a proposal and email it to me on the prices for the phone with and without contract. I am trying to see what my funds are like to order one if not I will have to sell my mpx220 to get it and be stuck without a phone until this one comes in I have trust in the guy which is hard for me. So now the question is, is there at least 6 more people interested to meet the 10?

Posted by: AngelJo008

how much of a break is talking about did he give you any idea?--another question is, how can he extend a cingular contract if he is in FL and I'm in IL?

Posted by: Sincere02199

He didn't give me an idea of how much it would be as far as the break. I will ask him about the whole contract thing in since your in IL I am no expert but it shouldn't make a difference but I could be wrong.

just ordered my 8125 from cingular business.... with corp and web discounts... paid 240.... should have it on thursday. go get em!!

ah... got ya! now now... this ain't any worse than you all following the guy that says he can get them from an agent when cingular has yet to even release the phone.

Posted by: AngelJo008

nice try--I only said I was interested if it was LEGIT--stranger things have happened--besides I called cingular business today and of course it is still not showing--who knows

Also called this place and even though they have it listed as arriving Dec 20th--they too are still waiting on the release of this phone--Talke to a gal named Brandi and she said that they should hear something today.

Nope can't say that I know him, I will answer you PM shortly.

Posted by: abendx

i hope you guys the best of luck on this..... just one bit of advice.... pay with a credit card so you can dispute the charge if this turns out sour!

or maybe a trusted escrow service of some type?

i'll wait for cingular.

Posted by: wookiee2cu

For laughs, I just phoned the Cingular store in Redmond WA. The rep. said that they don't have it in stock and he isn't expecting it for "a few months". I hope that is not true, I don't know if I can wait that long.

I am also interested in getting in on this deal if its legit...
(Sorry I wont pay with western union though!!)

Posted by: myke

Anyone think Sincere02199 might not be that sincere and his "connection" might be fabricated to get 10 people to give him 400 bucks?

It hasnt been released by cingular yet and it hasnt been released for a reason.

Posted by: 4starzzzzshark

I would only pay through paypal or my amex. I never pay anything through western union or money scam

Posted by: Sincere02199

As expected I am getting alot of PMs. So it is a clear understanding I DO NOT work for him, I will NOT be taking payments for these phones, payment if this does work out will be done directly to the store, I will try to purchase one before I give any info on who to contact (last thing I want to hear is "you said" ). Also a list will be provided to him of all those who are interested so he knows who to expect to get a call from. I am doing this to try to help out everyone because I have received alot of help on this site and would like to pay back some. Due to the PMs I will have to create some quick form to be filled out by all interested so I can get a quote for everyones needs. So provide me a email address please do so by emailing me at Sincere0219@gmail.com in the subject put 8125 so I know not to delete it and it will be alot easier to keep track of vs PM

Posted by: Sincere02199

Myke if your not interested just keep it to yourself please. Why would anyone send ME $400 if I don't even own a cellular business just doesn't make sense. At no point did I say payment are made to me. So far everything I have stated is information from speaking with the gentleman I have not guaranteed anything.

Posted by: wookiee2cu

Give the guy a break. He has already stated that he is not getting the money. Once he gives you the store name and other info, do your own checking around to see if you feel it is legit or not and go with your gut feeling.

I see the refurb Treo 650 again on Cingular site for $139
I was going to pick up this phone a month ago but got the 2125
I already got the 2125 and may or may not keep it after I get the 8125.
I'm still on my month to month plan hope my rebate goes through ?

Posted by: wookiee2cu

pcman, I currently have the treo 650 and it is a pretty decent phone. There are a few things that bug me with the phone but when you take into account what all it can do, I tend to be forgiving of the little bugs. For $139, that's a good deal in my mind as long as the unit is in good condition considering it's a refurb. I just prefer the windows mobile interface over the palm interface. I had a chance to mess around with my buddies Apache / PPC-6700 (Sprint) and I really liked it and have been waiting for GSM version ever since. The only draw back to the Apache/Wizard is that it prety much requires two hands where as with the Treo, a mojority of tasks can be done with one hand... this doesn't bother me but it may bother some. I considered picking up the 2125 but really want the key board for e-mails and text messages. Now I just wait patiently (not really) for Cingular to release it.

Posted by: Free Man

To this illusive phone dealer named "Carlo" in Tampa and the "prospects" of getting the phone via this "channel":

In all these posts you don't just reveal the store and phone number of the person and rep who is taking these 8125 orders. Several have asked this but of course nothing is produced, and all kinds of convenient reasons why you don't have the business card, etc and then it's dropped. If it is legitimate the owner, or rep would simply have his store name and contact information posted here. That's how businesses operate after all...they don't work to hide their information, quite the opposite. We can all call for ourselves, check out the store for those in the Tampa Bay area. Some guy named "Carlo" in Tampa is selling phones that are Cingular branded before Cingular or any other non-corporate Cingular authorized dealer or store is.

I think it suffices to say, it's more than a huge risk and less than anything legit at this point. This is only an opinion, naturally do as you wish by all means. It's safe to say we are all intersted in getting our hands on this phone. Flame on.

Posted by: AngelJo008

you have a point and a very valid one at that--I'm simply waiting for more information before I even proceed--knowing my luck, the phone will be released before any of this really takes off which would be a VERY good thing at that!!

Posted by: Aviatr80

Well good news....only my second posts but I've been keeping up with this thread for a while....anxiously awaiting...lol....i need help!

I emailed a B2B rep today who is a team leader for his department and he told me that while of course he couldn't give me a guarantee... said as of today the ETA is this friday the 23rd. So...just passing along the information!

Posted by: colorBlue

I called my B2B/B2C/B2Z rep and he/she said it will come out:

- on the 24th

- if not 28th

- if not the 30th

- if not the 1st

- if not in 2020

So fuc*** sick of these stupid speculative dates!!!

guys.... relax, i just got an e-mail from this guy and this is what he told me....

sir,

i am a friend of a friend of carlo's friend. he is hooking us up with an intergalatic phone store that bought the whole lot of 8125 phones from some pirates that hijacked the boat that was bringing the phones to cingular, that is of course why they can't get them to you right now. but, through a special deal i have put together, carlo will sell any hofo member that is a friend of sincere02199, a 8125 at 40% over what cingular will sell it to you for. i understand that that is more than you were expecting to pay, but cingular will not have the phone til late may 2006. please do not believe all of the people that have told you it will be out on this day or that day. by now you should know they were incorrect (of course that is because the pirates sold the phones to an outerspace phone dealer).

sincere02199 will collect your money and pass it along to me and i will pay carlos who has the connection with the aliens. sincere02199 would like to stay anonymous for obvious reasons, so he will setup an account and you can deposit your money via western union. i think the aliens have a deal with spaceEX and can overnight the phone to you.

thanks,

sincere02199... ummm, i mean carlos the phone fairy!

sincere02199, plase let us know where to send the money!

That's about the most ignorant thing I've ever read. Even if it were true, you don't go selling "hijacked" merchandise one by one. Absolutely comical. I can only picture some Captain Hook looking guy pecking away at the 8125's keyboard with his hooked arm/hand.

Is there a poll for most outlandish post of 2005?

Posted by: Omega2008

Yeah, but I perfer email. I will PM it too you

Posted by: high_tek

It seems as we get closer to the 11th hour, and x-mas, the posts about this phone are getting wilder and wilder. Can you say over-anxious. There are almost 2000 posts in here. Are we the most impatient, geeky, tech dorks on the planet or what. This has been one of the longest perverbial lines to buy a product ever, I think. And you thought it was hard to get an x-box 360 ... geez.
Hopefully you, me, and everyone else, will get our christmas lists to santa fulfilled any day now ... and if not then there is no god

Posted by: rickshred

Hi there folks,
I'm afraid I've got confirmed bad news from our B2B rep, the one who said we would have a soft release on the 22nd of Dec. Here's the info right from the horse's mouth. Of course this is no surprise, but at least it's some information that is helpful and should be encouraging in terms of getting a product that is the most up to date. He said"

"We were just informed it will be the middle of January. They have decided to load the new software before launch instead of after. I apologize. I just found out 10 minutes ago."

I guess we now have to wait almost a month to get this phone, assuming no more delays. Aaaaarrrrrrrgggggg.

Posted by: Omega2008

Good news! So it will have the new Firmware with MSFP and AKU 2.0!! yay!

Posted by: Free Man

lol, yet another two conflicting reports on the same day within an hour of each other - One says 12/23 and the other the middle of January (the latest we have heard yet). The only thing I know is that 3600 units are due in on 12/26 still, perhaps they'll sell them right away or update them with some rom updates. It certainly is an interesting value proposition for Cingular to delay what will most likely be a major phone launch for an update that can be pushed over air.

Posted by: I have a phone

it's mid January

Posted by: AngelJo008

I guess I can wait --it'll just be a birthday gift for myself

Posted by: Omega2008

I do not believe the update can be pushed over air....

Posted by: Free Man

Out of curiousity what do you base that on? Do you work for Cingular?

Maybe by post #2500? This is by far one of the funniest threads I have ever followed. Basically unless you are "the man" that authorizes this release, all else is a guess.

Posted by: jlczl

BTW, all the "I know this is only my second post but I've been lurking on these forums a long time........." posts are useless. Give us a break.

Posted by: mademan118

Besides this phone, is there anything else you would consider purchasing? I have been following this thread also, and i love the way the phone looks. I have settled for the 140$ treo 650, and will buy this phone outright when it comes out, hopefully within the first 30 days. How much would htis phone be with a 2 yr upgrade?

assuming the pirates don't get that shippment too...

beam me up scotty.... i wanna deal with the aliens directly!

Posted by: PointZero

This thread reminds me of the old MPx300 thread. Everyone was so eager for it's release until the axe by Motorola. I guess the delayed projected release dates are better than the official axe.

Posted by: mademan118

damn i hate the fact that this phone has taken so long to come out. I have been itching to pick up a smart phone for some time now, and that treo 650 refurb looks like an awesome deal... But i have a question, will you have to get Unlimited data for 39.99 or will media unlimited work well with it?

Posted by: stillrockin

medianet unlimited will work just fine and that is a great deal . . . Act fact however. They oversell those Palm units everytime they put them on the web site. I ordered one a while back, and they never bothered telling me they had no more to sell. Long story that I won't rehash here, but I spent 2 1/2 hours on the phone with CS trying to find out why I got a confirmation order, a charge to my credit card from Cingular, but a order showing canceled on the Cing WS. (the CCO was a pending one and went away in about a day) I realized it really wasn't what I was wanting . . . I have owned Visor and Palm units in the past, and really am wanting to experience WM.

If you order the Treo, you need to convince them its for a smart phone and not a ppc. They know that with unlimited you can eat more data per month with a ppc vs a smart phone. Good luck if you order the Refurbed Treo. But on the bright side, about the time your contract runs out, the 8125 will be released . . .

Posted by: musthaveit

I don't believe it!

According to VZW Employee on the xv6700 forum, the xv6700 will be a dual launch with the Treo 700 on 1/5/05. CES 2006

http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...3&page=38&pp=15

If Verizon actually beats the 8125 release date, no need to wait on this.

Here's the latest from pdaphonehome:

The 6700 launch date is 1/5/06. It has been approved and we are awaiting inventory. It is running Windows Mobile 5 base at launch. It will have an upgrade to AKU2 in March of 2006.

The i730 will have an upgrade in February. It will be an AKU2 upgrade. This includes the messaging and security pack.

EVDO stomps on Edge. Check out that thread, as there are ways to swap out CDMA phones, albeit not as easy as SIM card swap.
Verizon coverage, Verizon customer service, blazing fast EVDO,,,, but at a much higher price of $599 with a two year contract.

You decide

Posted by: butzchan

Unbelieveable. The big question is, will Cingular beat Verizon or not? If not....horrible business decision.

That is correct, it cannot be pushed over the air, current ROM V 1.8 is 52mb in size. Awaiting the next ROM pack to load up on the 8125 that I have, and yes, I acutally have it and it was free!

You decide

Yeah all you who want to jump ship over a phone have fun with the decreased battery life CDMA gives you over GSM.

That's your best argument? Pretty funny stuff. Not just any CDMA carrier. This is Verizon. Arguably the best coverage, best customer service that is available. Sprint's version has pretty damn good battery life, so the CDMA version phone is just fine. Sprint has great prices,,,,, but has to because it is well,,,, Sprint.

There are several reviews that compare the Wizard to the Apache, and none of them support your argument!

Verizon beating out Cingular on the phone, is a BIG DEAL!

Posted by: tricky76

Not sure if this has been posted, but the cingular mail in rebate for the 2125 phone lists a $50 rebate for the 8125/8100 phone. The rebates expire 12/24/05.

Well, I get about a days worth of battery life from my Cingular branded MPx220. Can't imagine either version of the Apache being worse than that.

Posted by: smithtec

is aku2 a firmware or OS patch? Or are they considered one and the same on these devices? I ask because I am thinking of just buying an unlocked wizard like the kjam or qtek, if I do this am I excluding myself from aku2? Is there a better place to ask this? There isnt an HTC Manufacturer forum...... thanks sorry for technically being OT

Posted by: Omega2008

I don't think you will miss out, I know for sure that iMate will definantly release this as a ROM update for the K-Jam. AKU 2.0 will be a ROM upgrade not just a patch. I don't know about the MSFP...it maybe a OS patch or it maybe a ROM update with both elements in it.

If they do oh well....thats Cingulars problem not mine. Its just one device. Its not like Cingular is missing the whole picture here, who knows what Cingular or Verizon for that matter has down the pipe. I don't like CDMA, never have so thats a good enough reason for me not to really care who gets what first.

Don't DUH me....just because it maybe free to other customers of other companies doensn't mean that Cingluar won't charge for it. Especially if they are going to send it out on CD-ROM's or something. If you don't have nothing productive to say, don't post at all.

How can they charge for something that isn't even being sold yet? Do you think that anything being discussed in this ridiculous thread is productive? Do you think your posts are any more productive than anyone elses? Crap - this thread is all about speculation and conjecture... get a grip.

Wow chill out man! You are taking this all too personal Everyone including me is anxious to get this phone. If it comes I'll be happy, if not oh well, I will get a w600i or something. I just wanted a phone with wifi so I do not have to pay cingulars absurd data plan charges and to make it easy for me to IM chat in a hotspot and send SMS easy.

Posted by: Omega2008

I don't think my posts are more productive than others, but they are more productive than yours, I know that. If this thread is so ridiculous then why are you even posting in it? Secondly no one said they were going to charge for something that is not for sale yet, but when its released or when Cingular decides to release it, they could charge for it. Yes its speculation, thats why I asked my question to someone that probably would know. There are alot of posts in this threat that are productive and have helped someone, what have yours done? Nothing but insulting other members of this forum. This all I have to say about this, if you want to discuss this any further, take it to a PM.

I have been waiting patiently for the release of the 8125 and have tried to discern the "forum facts" from the "forum misinformation." You seem to be one of the level-headed folks in the forum. Please give me some guidance.

I want to get the HTC device (in one form or another) to replace my trusty T-Mobile PPC. The Sprint 6670 is available at my local Sprint store. Verizon seems to be looking at a mid-January release date. You seem to have info that Cingular will be releasing the 8125 in January also.

Will the 8125 firmware upgrades make this a much different (e.g. better) device than the Sprint 6670? If so, I am prepared to wait for Cingular, but if the differences are negligible, then I am interested in picking up a Sprint 6670 tomorrow?

Your advice?

Unfortunately I believe it, just proves there is no need to wait for the AKU2 and other upgrades. The can be added and updated later, most of the time with over the air updates. And even if the update requied a run into the store, so? It seems that both Verizon and Sprint will now leap ahead of Cingular for the type of phones many of us are looking for.

Well--I broke down today and had to buy a k-jam---my SX66 took a dive in the toilet this morning. Thank GOD I have insurance on it and was able to just purchase the k-jam without losing money--I'll save my upgrade for a later date if and when cingular comes out with something more exciting. I'm going to try and sell my SX66 once it's dried out; if it works then explain that is was wet but works, and if it doesn't work , I'll sell it for parts. been a very tragic morning for me!!!

If you read back in the thread this phone was also on the rebate list for November.

Now on a serious note you should really read at least SOME of the thread before you post a question like this. Nobody really knows when the phone is going to be released. It will probably be sometime in January.

Good Question actually, as I am sure several of us out there have seen companies charge for ROM upgrades on various devices.

From my understanding the ROM upgrade will be FREE, but I will do a followup on that when we get the new ROM here.

Hard to say. I'm not the technical guru like others on this forum. I just have a relationship with a B2B Cingular rep who has given me straight info. I personally prefer GSM, and if Cingular is going to upgrade the firmware, then I would probably wait for it. Plus, I don't like the antennae knob on the Sprint phone and I prefer the looks of the 8125 over the sprint phone. I'm not too concerned about Cingular NOT shipping this product, as I believe they are committed to it and I also think we'll see it in January. My 2 cents.

So I've been running the numbers here and I've realized that if I buy an unlocked qtek 9100 and don't upgrade my current plan (which includes the 19.99 a month data plan) that I will actually save money over waiting for the 8125 and signing a 2 year contract with the $39.99 unlimited pda data plan.

The only thing that could throw a wrench in this is if I am unable to use my data plan with the qtek 9100. So, I'm asking if anyone out there is using their htc wizard with the 19.99 a month data plan? If so, have you had any problems?

Thanks!

I have a SX66 (HTC Blue Angle) and mine works just fine. Cingular doesn't know I have a pda phone since mine is unlocked and I got it though ebay.

Read a nice little tidbit this morning, not sure if anyone read this or not yet:

Ed Colligan, president and chief executive officer of Palm. "We'll roll out the Palm Treo 700w smartphone based on Microsoft's Windows Mobile, and we'll announce three additional new smartphones during calendar year 2006."

JB

Posted by: ajpprc

Thanks for those of you who responded to my question about using the 19.99 data package with cingular. I was wondering if you had any information about configuring an unlocked phone to access the network and also if you got EDGE speeds with the plan.

Thanks!

Posted by: Perceptions

Visit the Wiki in the PocketPC forum of Hofo and you will find all the settings you need. As long as EDGE is in your area you will get EDGE speeds.

Actually, I read that this morning too. I talked to an IT guy this morning, who loves Palm OS and he told me that he expects one of the phones to be a "not so smart phone". Taking a Palm Z22 and adding phone features. He said to expect it less than $200. Then he spoke of something called "Hollywood". This he said would merge the best features of the T-5 and Treo 650 in a thinner form factor with sliding keyboard much like the samsung WM05 phone . . . He said, this was only rumors which makes all this right on topic for this thread . . .

Posted by: midas

A question for the folks that seem to know about this latest ROM upgrade, if you don't mind. The one thing that's holding me back from even considering the 8125 is the Bluetooth problems. I had the PPC-6700 for a week and I heard from someone else in this thread that the Qtek and I-Mate versions of the Wizard are showing the same problems I had with my Acura.

So the question is, in the release notes, is there any mention of changes to the BT section of the code? What's odd is that I picked up the 2125, also made by HTC, and the BT works fine with the car. So HTC is capable of an implementation that works in the Acura, they just haven't done it on the current Apache and Wizard platform.

Palm Says 3 New Treo Smartphones in 2006
Posted By: Ryan on Tuesday, December 20, 2005 6:11:29 PM

Palm CEO Ed Colligan stated in todays Palm's earnings conference call that Palm will announce three new smartphones next year, in addition to the Treo

"We'll roll out the Palm Treo 700w smartphone based on Microsoft's Windows Mobile, and we'll announce three additional new smartphones during calendar year 2006." said said Ed Colligan. During the conference call he further stated that these new models will debut with new industrial designs and at different price points. They will also implement next-generation radio technologies.

Colligan also stated that one of these models was designed specifically for a large international carrier and may not ever see a US release.

This announcement confirms earlier rumors about new Treo products in 2006. That report stated Palm plans a Treo 700p (similar model as the 700w running Palm OS Garnet) as well as two new designs code-named "Hollywood" and "Lowrider".

Other highlights from the conference call:

* Palm shipped 602,000 Treos to carriers this quarter (vs. 332,000 last year's quarter)
* Palm now has 78% of the US handheld marketshare
* 8 of the 10 best selling handhelds in the US are made by Palm
* This was Palm's 8th consecutive quarter of year over year growth
* Palm has a 36% share of the US converged device market
* the Treo 700w will ship on time in early January
* BlackBerry Connect for the Treo will be delivered in early 2006

The difference is the device. The 19.99 Plan is for Smartphones and regular phones. The 39.99 (with a voice plan) is for PPC's. The 19.99 plan is not supposed to be used with PPC's, although it definately is. All of this is explained in the TOS for data plans.

yes but it is all relative--they BOTH use the SAME kind of data--cingular just wants you to pay more since they figure you will be on your pda more using more data or streaming to your laptop. they both connect to the same data server.

Posted by: CA

I think Cingular's data charge is based on phone/device of record. 2125=$20.00 8125=$40.00 Aircard=$60.00 or $80.00(no voice plan). If you get a PDA phone but they think your using a regular phone it's $20.00.

That's how I understand it anyway.

I thought that the access points were also different.

Posted by: AngelJo008

from my understanding they go to the same data server--they may initially have two different access points in order to determine which data package you have, but I've used pda/phones on the cell data plans for years with no troubles. granted I dont link my laptop to my cell, but they both offer the same kind of data information just at 2 different prices.--It's really up to you if you want to pay more for teh same thing

I've never had a PDA phone and plan on getting the 8125. I'm curious to learn if Activesync will work via the WiFi to my WiFi enabled laptop so I can sync without having to connect the USB wire.

Also, as a gift idea for my kids, is there by chance any good quality belt holsters that are a good fit for this model? Where to look?

Thanks.

I got a krusell case for the K-jam on www.expansys-usa.com for around 30.00

As far as I know I don't believe you can connect via wi-fi to active sync--BT yes, USB yes, Wifi--I don't think so

Yeah I saw that Dopod device on a brochure a friend of mine got in Singapore. Essentially its the same device as the 8125 (K-jam/9100)...they are all made by HTC and have identical functions and features. Everyone is waiting for the Cingular one because its going to come out at a much lower price...whenever it does finally come out

Yeah, and that pricing info was provided by the same folks who gave us the initial release date info........so take it for what it's worth.

BTW, the pricing they provided for the HTC 2125 w/o contract was WRONG.

What happens if you dont buy the phone from cingular and want to get updates? How do the servers know when to push out rom updates? I'm planning on purchasing an unlocked one off ebay or whatever means.

eCost has the Cingular 8125 listed at around $500. Still $200 cheaper than the Dopod on eBay.

Nice looks like retailers are sku'ing up the units now, which typically means they'll be released soon. I assume this is the unlocked version, no contract.

You know what they say about assuming. Nothing on the site indicates that it is without a contract or that it is unlocked.

That site has a description full of errors so I wouldn't count on it being a good source of information.

ROM updates on pda phone are usually posted on their website and downloaded to your computer. Then you sync to your device. The updates are too large to be OTA.

So the major reason to wait is price? But if I buy one thru cingular at a no contract price (I dont currently qualify for an upgrade, and I dont think I want to be locked in for 2 more years) then they know I have it and my data rate will be more $$$ per month. That sound about right? Cause methinks my next paycheck wants to buy one of the other wizards....

thats actually what im worried about..

I received the q-tek 9100 from mmb yesterday. I use cingular and had it set up for email, internet, very easily. There are good forum threads and links from mmb to direct you how to set it up. I have the 19.99 works plan and receive my data great. The phone is truly amazing, a computer in your hand. And it is a small device to boot. I highly recommend it if you are looking to get one and not wanting to wait for the day cingular releases the 8125.

The q-tek has a 2 year warranty.

You're not talking about the same numbers here, though.

Through eCost = $685
Through Cingular = $450 - $50 Rebate = $400

Almost a $200 difference.

Looks like ImportGSM holds the best price for a HTC Wizard right now. $589 was their best price, last time I checked.

Assuming if it's no contract and unlocked you would then be able to save $20.00/month on the data plan(difference from phone to PDA plan)and that would save you $20x24 over 2 years that's $480.00. With that math it's going to be eCost, and the Like, all the way.

Oh, that's why we all have different preferences. I can't live without my MEdia Works now.

By the way, you really keep a phone for 2 years without needing to upgrade?

Anyone else notice that availability has to be checked by a phone call. Not a good sign for their stock.

eCost DOES NOT have them in stock. However You seem to refer to the eBay link I provided, and it looks like he does have the Dopod 838 (which would seem to be the same thing as the Cingular 8125) on hand and ready to sell at $685. I was just using the eCost price to show that it is probably worth waiting for the Cingular phone. But, as someone else noted, the eCost price might be with a 2 year contract, it doesn't say for sure.

if you can live with a QWERTZ keyboard.... go for it. but for me, that would be a deal killer!

Disregard the cost differential, if I buy a device from Cingular, they will fix it for me if it breaks. What kind of technical support will you get if you buy from a web site? Just curious.

I know it's not the traditional carrier answer, but the manufacturer will. I realize there is the inconvenience of having to use a different phone while it's being fixed. The truth be told I would rather get my(known phone) back than a carrier replacement that may be another model or a refirb.

Also I would think there are other, insurance, companies that will cover it in the case of theft and accidental breakage.

BTW; You can also almost buy two with the savings. Like a spare just like a car tire.

Has anybody thought about buying a t-mobile mda vario and then unlocking it , because this page " http://importgsm.com/pages.php?pageid=37&mode=preview " tells you how to unlock this phone. Then once unlocked using the phone with cingular would be possible , no? The phone would be like 70 bucks from expansys.com. What are your thoughts on this? I mean there will be a cancellation fee for dropping t-mobile as the provider, but if that is 200 bucks then the phone is $270 !!

abendx - It is possible to remap the keys to qwerty.....

Posted by: smithtec

madmonkeyboy has qtek 9100 with qwerty for 679. And from all that I have heard about dealings with him, he will go above and beyond to help you out..... I think I have my answer.

sure remap them.... the keys still are laid out.... QWERTZ.

having the keyboard as i expect is worth the extra 60 a 9100 would cost.... but then again, i am a cheap ******* and am waiting for the cingular branded 100 series that will run me two to three hundred.

Hey, this would be an amazing idea if #1 The phone was already released and #2 The price was really $70 on Expansys. I did a quick search in the T-Mobile forum and din't find evidence of either. Also, isn't Expansys one of those dealers like LetsTalk.com where you have to wait 3 months before submitting your rebate forms? Can you please explain more?

One more little deal with doing that wouldn't you be expected to return the phone or be charged major$?

Ok well at this link
http://www.expansys.com/product.asp...artner=register
it shows there are 11 available. This price does not use a rebate it is that price str8 up. 35 pounds is around 70 in us dollars I believe. As far as what the deal is with charging you for the phone and what dropping the service would cost I have not a clue. Maybe someone with some insight into this might post the answer.

Posted by: Razor1973

This is T-Mobile UK. I don't think you can buy a phone and service from Expansys for the U.S. Other than that, I don't think you'd be required to return the equipment.

it's an O2 mini S... look at the pics. i believe QWERTZ is a german layout.

Send them an e-mail.... I have been known to be wrong before

Wanted to let you guys know that I just got my K-Jam today and let me tell you--you will LOVE this phone once it is released by cingular!!

I have the SX66 and the size difference alone is remarkable!! the k-jam is smoother and more reliable than the SX66. Don't get me wrong--I loved my SX66 but this takes the cake--It'll def be worth all the fuss and anxiety once it is released!!

This may be off-topic - if so, apologies - which forum do you suggest?

It seems ActiveSync via WiFi works with ActiveSync 3.71 but is being disabled for 4.1

"Remote PC Sync (via Wifi or LAN) has been removed due to Enterprise customer feedback around security issues. If you are using this feature on a Windows Mobile 2003-based device, please continue using ActiveSync 3.x or earlier."

Well I was thinking telling them that I will be moving to the UK and that I need the phone shipped to the US, before my trip. I don't know I'm just chuckin stones out there. I think it would work but I don't know enough about T-mobile UK or expansys.com's policies.

that's probably why I remembered you couldn't since I use AS 4.1

Is there anyway to purchase the 8125 from cingular straight up without a contract where they dont know ur account info so that way they cant up ur data plan rates? and can i purchase this using my FAN discount without telling them my account info because the extra $20 a month for the next year or so is a real deal breaker for me?

I tried that a couple of months ago. It won't fly.

Hey I wish you luck but I don't think your going to out smart them. Without the risk of jail anyway.

Posted by: phillytim

So it appears that the 8125 will be a 802.11g (54mbps) device, rather than being limited to 802.11b (11mbps) for WiFi.

Is this correct?

Jail for dropping a phone contract ... seems a lil harsh for a UK company to have the US authorities arrest someone for dropping a phone contract )

Just a joke son. Just seams everyone wants a "little" on the side.

I figured as much. I sure do want to get the damn phone, I hate waiting, so I am just thinking of anything to avoid this. I mean I will only use the phone for like a year, I am more wanting the HTC Hermes.
That don't come out till May though, supposedly.

Yes, but who can wait until then, especially when you will get similar specs (except for the FM radio and the extra MP in the camera) in the 8125 much sooner.

Now that was helpful! It's like being two sit-ups away from being in a rowboat with Cindy Crawford.

Posted by: high_tek

Yeah the gigabyte looks cool and all but no keyboard, for that you could have an e600 right now that seems similar to this one.

THAT IS NOT A TREO 700 (or even a real one in the works for that matter...)

rather, that is a photoshopped image...it's been discussed on treocentral.com, some reviewer created that mock image for something he was working on.

It might be, but Palminsider posted it up this morning. Thats where I got it from . . . I know one thing . . . Palm ought to take note! I like it!
