Can someone explain the real-life speed diff between EDGE and EV-DO? And also, will the 8125 only be capable of EDGE speeds as a maximum?

Posted by: eimajuno

I know three places where I go, there is no EVDO coverage. First off in my Apartment in southern california. People who have Verizon need to step outside to use their phone. At my parents house in the Napa Valley, zero Verizon or sprint coverage and they live in a neighborhood that is not hilly at all. At our vacation house, Zero sprint or verizon coverage. There is not any cingular coverage either however there is a smaller carrier named Edge Wireless, who is a cingular affiliate that provides roaming for Cingular, T-mobile and Former AT&T customers. Also I get full data on the lake. I physically sat on my boat in the middle of the lake with my Sony Ericsson P900, no hiccups whatsoever. I would be a fish out of water with Sprint or Verizon.

The information I am going to give is based on my Mot V551 and my friend's Samsung SCH-T720. The test I use is a 10 minute data transfer of a Linux ISO file from a known fast source such as a major university. I have seen so many wacky transfer numbers from so-called speed test sites I do not trust those numbers. The tests are done in the Eastern Massachusetts area around Boston/Cambridge area.

When tethered via bluetooth or a USB data cable to a V551, I get about 12.5KB/sec or 100kbps average using Cingular EDGE. Ping times are usually around 500 - 800ms.

When tethered via a USB data cable to the SCH-T720, I get about 60KB/sec or about 480kbps on Verizon EV-DO. At times I have seen as high as 100KB/sec or 800kbps. Ping times usually average about 250 - 300ms.

Just got off the phone w/ two stores here in 22032. One said he had information on it and it would be available mid Feb. The second guy said sometime in Q1.

boo. hopefully it comes earlier.

Posted by: i0wnj00

I went into the Corp store today to look at a few (live!) phones and look at their selection of PDA/phones with QWERTY keyboards. I made my gripe that the buttons for BB's, Tero's, and the Samsung D307.. are too small for my thumbs and I would rather have keyboard slide out.

Then I made my inquiry about the HTC 8100 and he said they (the Corp store) should be getting it around late Jan/early Feb. He priced it at between $200-$300 w/ 2-year contract and $450-$500 without one.

This was the Cingular Corp store in The Gateway.

No you are not alone. I am sitting in the middle of nowhere. I have the edge indicator lite up on my phone right now. As a salesman, I would rather have less speed and more coverage than high speed and little coverage.

I also find it interesting how many people here think VZW will be so much better. I switched to Cingular from VZW, because of the poor customer service.

To those of you switching good luck. Enjoy the crippled bluetooth phones and not being able to use Wi-fi with your phone on.

If you loose EVDO on Verizon, what data mode does the phone go to and at what speed??

EDGE ranges from 100-150k
EV-DO (which is a CDMA data technology) ranges from 500-700k

EDGE is more widely deployed across Cingular and T-Mobile. EV-DO deployed on Sprint and Verizon is mostly only avaliable in major metropolitan areas.

If you are in major areas where Sprint or Verizon has EV-DO, then it might be a good choice. For sheer coverage, EDGE is the best GSM carriers has to offer. 8125 is EDGE and GPRS only.

UMTS/HSDPA is the next major data technology that Cingular is deploying that will compete with EV-DO. It is currently only in 10-15 areas. Right now, the only focus is data cards and one phone that was announced. There are currently no Windows Mobile devices that offer UMTS/HSDPA, sans the Jasjar/Universal but it only works on UMTS systems in Europe, not in the USA.

I believe it will fall back to 1XRTT in areas without EV-DO and that ranges from 56k-100k in speed.

Thanks a lot man for the reply. That's all the info I was looking for. Since I'm getting the ANR plan with Cingular, I'm just getting the 8125, and using the 6030 until 8125 is released.

Where are most people going to get this phone if they are buying it outright? Online, or in the store?

I heard a similar story today at corporate store (formerly an AT&T Wireless store). They expected the 8125 within the next couple of weeks within the same price range. They also had a working 2125 display model - much smaller than I expected (the pictures make it look bulky, which its not), but I am still waiting on the 8125 and the sliding keyboard.

I had a chance to talk with a representative from Palm who was there. She said the 700 will be coming within the next few months, but that the exclusive deal with Verizon is preventing a Cingular release. Gotta love corporate politics.

I also asked the Cingular reps about the data plan needed for the 8125. They claimed Cingular could not force you off Media Net unlimited or Media Works, but they would strongly recommend that you change. I asked them why they recommend changing, and the answer was that "full internet browsing would not work". Even if it was true (which I doubt), who cares! For $25/month more, I'll surf on my laptop and keep my phone surfing on an as needed basis. Besides, right now most of my surfing is 8125-based, so I don't know what I'll do when I actually get one.

There really is no reason to change your data plan if you have one that you like unless you are getting a blackberry and plan to use the email and data features that it has. I know that I am not going to give up my data plan. No thing can beat on Cingular for $20 1500 text, 200 mms, and UNLIMITED DATA

Cingular moved me off that plan to the 5 Meg data plan on Friday without my permission. I called and raised heck with them. First they told me my plan was no longer offered (I got the plan 1 year ago). After talking to a supervisor they changed me back...I'm gonna have to watch these boys for awhile.......

Yeah, I heard that too, however, I am a Cingular Rep, and I do have access to POS II and I do check my plan monthly around billing time to make sure that I still have that on my account.

Anyone got any links, or can tell me why Cingualr would choose a "seemingly" slower proc?

In this thread itself, it has been been answered atleast 4 to five times.......

A friend of mine who is a director at Cingular called me back today (I have been asking him for information). He confirmed that the 8125 has not yet been released because of technical problem. He doesn't know what is the problem but apparently, it failed testing.

Also, as far as he knows, there is no ETA for release. He doesn't think they will cancel it though.

Therefore, I seriously doubt the phone will be released this month. I will wait till the middle of February. Then I will consider other options. My SX-56 is more than 2 years old. That means I should not be under any contract (I will doubt check on that). In that case, I can switch to any other carrier that can give me a good PocketPC phone.

If Cingular does not fix the problem fast, they are going to lose customers.

Great. At least something decent will be coming to T-mobile but I would really like to get my hands on a Cingular Version.

That is awesome! I like the way that T-mobile preserved the exterior design. Lets see what price point they open at.

Had it not been for T-mobile's service in southern california, I'd have switched to T-mobile. As much as I'd like to get my hands on that phone, I will be buying the QTEK 9100 as soon as I get my tax returns.

Posted by: racker

i hear this is due for release early Feb 2006 - Cingular has it posted on there B2B phone listing document....

Posted by: bikemanj7

dude! cmon cingular get your freakin act together! you may have the largest network but have the smallest line up and availability of phones! raise the bar on the phones! Man if tmobile's service worked decently in my area i would switch! i think this is ridiculous almost every us carrier has this device, except cingular! OK now that i finished venting I'll go back to waiting!

T-Mobile's SDA and MDA: on pre-order 19th

Posted Jan 17th 2006 12:01AM by Ryan Block
Filed under: Cellphones, Handhelds
We're not sure when they're actually gonna drop, but T-Mobile phoned home to let us know that their long awaited MDA and SDA are set for pre-order on the 19th (that'd be this Thursday, unless for some reason they meant February 19th). Unfortunately it looks like the Tornado gained the same unsightly bulge Cingular's 2125 did when it hit the streets on its US release, but better here and uglier than not here at all (except but by import), right? We know it'll be for Q1 release, but stay tuned for exact details on pricing, release dates, availability, etc.
Thats got to piss you off if TMO beats Cingular to the 8125/HTC Wizard punch!

With a thread that is pushing 200 pages, I don't think we should be too hard on folks asking repeat questions (I know - use the "search" function, but that's often not accurate unless you know exactly what was discussed - or drags up to many responses).

Besides, I get tired of the unending "Where the H@!! is the phone?" followed by "I'm pi$$@# I don't have my phone yet!" followed by "Anyone know the release date?" New questions or topics, even repeats, should be encouraged.

Even if you get the T-Mobile MDA unlocked, the browser settings will most likely remain locked as is the case with most if not all T-Mobile devices. This means, the MDA will not be fully functional with Cingular, even if unlocked.

Ditto, it has become a tad trite. Time for a Kjam or Qtek, especially since it won't be disabled like the 8125 is said to be in its infamous up and coming release, now said to be into the end of February.

you are probably correct. however, you never know. these guys are brutal. by the way, my 2125 was purchased via the same confusion. i was dealing with a smt5600 blue xpressmail issue and asked for the 2125 knowing it was not available. they suprised me by telling me they would send me a 2125 next day. guess what? they did and i had one since mid-december.

on another note... my experience with the 2125 i have is not good. very buggy using xpressmail push and/or sync. also, i now can't get on the network?

as soon as cingular's stupid online shipment tracking feature has my order available to view, i'll at least rest easy knowing a (mystery) working phone is on the way. for now, i'm phoneless until i get home from from work and swap sim into the old 5600.

Can you elaborate on that comment? What is being disabled about the 8125 compared to the Kjam or Qtek? I haven't seen this part of this loooong thread. I had seen in one part that the 802.11g had been disabled (only supports b instead) Is this the issue, or are there other things? Thanks.

Posted by: Free Man

Well so far it has been stated on several occassions that the 802.11g has been disabled, so it is only 802.11b. Of course we will see if that is actually true at the end of February when (if) these things actually ship.

I haven't heard of the 8125 being "challenged" in any way except for being sim-locked to Cingular. But if it is in any other way than being sim-locked, this will be the last straw as far as I am concerned. When I stop cursing Cingular I will simply pony up for an unlocked, unchallenged phone.

k everyone i just got off the phone with cingular B2B sales

i had to lie and say that i was a buissness customer but the guy told me that for buissness customers it would be availble on january 20th. he said that corporate stores would have guaranteed stock by then. i asked him about for regular customers and he said that it would be availble for them on the same date. i asked about pricing but he said that it showed up as coming soon in his database but that he thought it would be 300$ with a two year contract. he said that he too was planning on buying this phone.

what was strange to me was that when i said the 8125 he said, your talking about the Wizard right? IDK that was just weird to me.

he confirmed that this would be availble to everyone this month.

It's possible that it may have been removed over the last couple of months, but the one I've been using since late October has 802.11g.

Since I am very close to finishing up the review of the 8125, I wanted to post some more shots of the 8125 compared with other phones around it, that way alot of people get an idea of how big this thing may or may not be, as you can see the phone collection continues to grow, and I still have about 5 more phones on the way, Yikes.

Enjoy

You are really going to hate me then, I actually have 2 of them!

How did you get some of those phones?
Working for a company that spends several millions a year on cellular service allows me to get my hands on phones rather early.

Honestly, I loved what Motorola was doing with the MPx300, too bad it didnt go anywere, so far out of all these phones, my 2 favorites are the Treo 650 and the 8125. Favorite OS, its a tie between WM5 and Palm.

People, no one is ordering this phone yet so don't be confused. So far the closest anyone has gotten to ordering it is a "it's pending" status. The minute it's available you will see it here I'm sure and it will be instantly sold out and on back order

It actually depends on the phone sometimes, for example, I got the MPx300's directly from Motorola, the Nokia 9300 from Nokia, alot of it depends, truly!

LOL!!! Actually no, that hammer happens to be sitting on one of my work benches, you should see what is behind it, computer parts galore, tv tuners, a media center, and a patch panel, trying to finish wiring the house!

Posted by: I have a phone

so, from the first 10 days of this thread I find:

I've heard NOTHING. The rebate on the phone goes into effect on 11-6, so I'd assume it'll be available then. Apparently there are 20,000 units in the warehouse right now.

17 days never seemed so long. Why can't Cingular stay on track with their release dates?

Both devices 2125 and 8125 should come out at the same time barring any issues. I haven't heard 100% confirmation on the dates yet though.

I heard the January pushback due to "technical issues" from a business rep this morning...

The rumored delays have not been confirmed by anyone. I have spoken with a few high level people regarding this and they say nothing is set in stone either way...

I haven't heard anything about these devices getting pushed back, infact I have been told that they will be released on the 18th....but don't quote me on it.

449.99 no commit, 349.99 on two year. saw it on the new price cards

IHAP, it would appear that more often than not you know more regarding the release dates of the phones than anyone else. I'm not going to ask you to tell us the exact date as you may not even know it, and if you did, I'm quite certain you wouldn't share. However, can you tell me if the phone will be available in the month of January?

Posted by: Rex Orbis2

I've been keeping up with this thread, and I actually have a phone-related question to anyone with experience with the Wizard. The thing that annoys me most with my smt5600 is that when I'm listening to an mp3, any time I do anything else (send a text, access the internet, open a program), My music skips as the device attempts unsuccessfully to multitask. With the 8125, will that problem be resolved?

Posted by: I have a phone

since it's still not approved by cingular I'd have to guess the very end of January or the start of February.

Again, I do not purpose any release dates since they are always subject to revision

Well, I thank you for giving us what you could. Does this mean that the reports of a January 20th release are incorrect?

Posted by: I have a phone

you must remember, that approval, release, and it being in a store are all very different things and subject to a few days leeway

IHAP, was GPRS one of the issues addressed by cingular?

Is the 20th the day that Cingular approves/rejects the 8125?

Posted by: tendura

I got to play with this device last night, and I fell in love with it. According to the guy that I talked to, assuming that the device passes Cingular's testing process, it'll be available in stores by the first week of February. Obviously this isn't definitive, but it'll pacify me for now. I'm planning on spending some tax refund dollars on this puppy.

If you have used the Treo 650 on a frequent basis, there are probably only a couple of things you will not like:

#1: With the keyboard slid out, dont plan on trying to do alot of one handed device operation, unless you have hands the size of a grizzly, can you do some one handed ops, you bet, but dont try to do alot, or it will piss ya off something fierce. This is a two handed device for sure, when using the keyboard.

#2: Plam OS vs. WM5: Considering the amount of addons out there for the Palm compared to the Treo, that might disuade you abit, just depends on what you want to do and how you want to go about it.

#3: Plan on using a Bluetooth headset alot, only reason why i say this is, if you try to use this like a regular phone and brsh your face up against the screen, you can actually open several programs without knowing it until you are off the phone, that is unless you forget to put the key lock on.

Other then that, honestly I think the 8125 is a great device.

Great Feed back. I am in the car alot and will use my BT head set alot. But also want someting that I can do business on. I have read so many horror stories about the Treo. Also don't want to buy yesterdays technology. But with that being said. Your comparision is very helpful. I am going to hold out for another week or so and see what the cost is going to be. If it is alot more than what i can get the Treo for than I guess I will just have to go Palm. Again thanks for the input.

I have 2 Cingialr accounts and already did one upgrade for the 2125 in Dec.but have another upgrade ready and still waiting for the 8125 the 650 on the site is gone.
Still on month to month with one of my contracts was going to swithch to Sprint but the Voice plans and the CDMA i don't like.
Still waiting

Ok, This is classic. Queen Creek (85242) is an east valley suburb of Phoenix. Chandler (85225) is also and east valley suburb of Phoenix. QC has the refurbished Palm, Chandler does not.... Hmmm... Gotta Love the distribution!

that is wierd. it must have something to do with inventory. i have noticed that it has disappeard and reappeared using my queen creek zip.

Just to let those who dont know, you can actually get a brand new Treo 650 off the mytreo.net website for $179.99, basically you pay $379.99, then you have $200 worth of mail-in rebates which drop the price as well, granted you can still get the Treo 650 refurb from Cingular for cheaper, but just letting everyone know some other options.

She will use here "regualr" phone I will now be using the 2125 and the Treo
As of now I'm still on the month to month ( as it shows in both my accounts )
Tired of waiting for the 8125 maybe I will pick it up after a few months or wait for the G3 phones ???
I just needed to access my email accounts and needed a keypad
the outlook built into the 2125 works and as does my Yahoo email but typing is a pan in the a-ss .
I just hope the 8125 doesn't come out this week I will be kicking myself in the butt or can always sell the treo or 2125

WM 5.0 is an operating system that can work on both...smartphone and pocket pc. The distinction comes in when you consider the form factor. If the device is a phone first, then a pda (such as 2125), its considered a smartphone. If the device is a pda first, then a phone (such as 8125), it considered a pocket pc phone.....atleast thats what I gather from researching around.

Posted by: idic_2000

That what I have come across too. Where the distinction becomes inportant is in purchasing OEM or third-party software.... Thanks vpathak

You have 30 days to return the thing so don't worry about it. I'm currently using a 2125 that I have every intention of returning when the 8125 comes out.

I have posted this already a couple days ago, but you might have missed it as this thread has been moving incredibly fast. So let me reiterate this.

A friend of mine who is a director at Cingular and has been searching for information on the 8125 for me. He told me that the phone failed test and that's why they are not releasing it. Apparently they are still working on it because he does not think they will cancel this phone (but who knows?). But he cannot tell whether they have found the solution and working on the fix or they are still looking for a solution. There is a big difference between the two.

He also told me there is no ETA on when it will be released. That means January is almost impossible. And I don't know how realistic February is.

I will wait till the middle of February. If there is no indication of anything, I will switch to other carriers that provide a variant of the Wizard. I have confirmed that I am not under any contract. That means I am free to switch. I still want to stay with Cingular as much as possible. But I won't wait pass the middle of February without any confirmation. The ball is in Cingular's court.

Yea it looks like T-Mobile might even have it on the shelf before Cingular does. It'll be very sad if it happens.

Supposedly they'll have it on pre-order for the 19th.

Be careful about pre-order. I don't want to commit my money and have to wait 2 months for them to deliver it. I won't order it unless there is an official release date.

Ok.. I can't understand how there could be a big problem that the phone still can't be passed at this point in time, especially with T-Mobile's version coming out soon. Well we don't know when officially, but they seem to be more confident about releasing it than Cingular. And both are GSM so I can't see what the problem could be

I thought the same thing when I bought my 2125 a month ago. Now it is returned and all indications are that it could be another month before it comes out. I don't really have the money to spend right now, so I'm just going to get a cheap one and wait till some time in the summer and get one out of contract.

Well you had a whole thread about wanting a "Cingular Sidekick" so the lack of keyboard and IM apps would make the 2125 an awful choice.

Well a treo would certainly be better for your needs than a 2125. You could just get a treo and hope that the 8125 comes out within the next 30 days.

Does anyone know the release price for the T-Mobile version of the HTC Wizard? If the price is right, I will go with T-mobile, and get it unlocked to work with Cingular. Plus the T-mobile version looks more like the K-Jam (Qtek 9100)

I am not an insider but I doubt Cingular will cancel this phone. If T-Mobile was able to make it work and announced a release date, then there is no issue with the hardware. I bet you that it is Cingular's radio stack code what is causing all the delays.

All bets are off on dates until the devices passes QA this week. If it passess, then 1/27 or 2/7 could be realistic dates. If it does not, then it will be delayed again. As I posted previously, it IS a radio issue but I do not know if Cingular had fudged with the radio stack code. My previous experience is that the actual radio stack code comes from HTC.

That's why I am very skeptical on whether T-Mo can actually release this device. The pre-order thing might be just a marketing plot to take customers away from Cingular. As I have said before, unless T-Mo announces an official release date, I will not pre-order any device from anybody.

All I know is Heads should roll over at Cingular
If I was running Cingular.
They are being embarrased by every other provider out there.
If it wasn't for Rollover and GSM and the ability to use differnat phones I would be with another provider in a second.
and I don't belive this phone is only for the Business or Tech person.
If Cingular ran a Commercial and the uses of the 8125 was shown the WOW factor and sale would sky rocket if people knew they could email from anywhere etc.
Half the kids out there pay $200 - $400 for a music devive IPOD and this phone and others do that and much more even my 2125 came with earbuds and can be used as a IPOD

The person in charge of the 8125 phone should be fired or when it's released it should be priced $100 lower then what we have been told.
My $139 treo 650 will be here tomorrow

Hey let me know what you think of the Treo when you get it. I am really close to pulling the Trigger on buying the Treo.

FYI - Today is the 19th. I checked the regular T-Mobile site and the B2B and did not see any sign of the Wizard for Pre-order.

With what HDCL has just mentioned, i am going to try and reaffirm that this morning, I actually have a confrence call with the project managers out in WA and I will pose a great deal of questions to these folks, man I cant wait till my confrence call with the marketing folks, they are going to get an earfull, I will post my findings later this afternoon, hopefully the information will be coming straight from the horses mouth.

As a side note, mytreo.net just announced the Treo 700W for NEW SUBSCRIBERS for $299, you pay $499 upfront and get about $200 back in rebates.

Well, the number of Cingular webpages listing the 8125 is starting to grow again...

And this one is no longer "hidden..." (Not that it matters, of course...)

Actually WM5 has a generic radio stack. Cell phone companies tweak this (or write their own) so it behaves the way they want; in Cingular's case they probaly tweak it to support their 64K SIMs and Enhanced Network Selection (ENS). I bet that there lies the problem. Wizards from I-Mate or Qtek are working on T-Mobile or Cingular because they use a generic radio stack that is not "optimized" for any particular network.

And man is that picture ugly! Forget that its hideous looking.

Yeah, the pictures of the 2-tone black and silver crop up every now and then. All of the ones we've seen in the forums (including those in the hands of those who post photographs of the Cingular branded version) show the all silver/gray one like the one pictured in the first post of this thread.

Personally, I don't give a $#!+ what the thing looks like, I just wish it would get here!

NOTE: This thread has 2 more pages left and I think it will be time to start a new thread and lay this one to rest. The regulars love this thread like its a 2nd home, but its frustrating for members looking for new information. If someone wants to make a list link of the information that is actually useful or informative then please PM me with it and I will post it on the new thread. I am going through the thread now but Im sure I will miss stuff, if I miss a customer review please PM with the post.

With the new thread and other threads like it in the future, please keep the discussion on topic as much as possible. I know we get excited and want to know release dates, but there are pages and pages of "when's the release date?" posts. Please try to keep these posts at a minumum as we know you will know. Cutting down on the off topic discussion will helpful to everyone in general in finding the information their looking for.

Direct any questions or comments related to this to me directly via PM and not on this thread.

thanks

Another month delay due to the fact that Cingular cannot get their tweaked radio stack working would be yet another blow for a device that is already behind. The fact is that just about every major European GSM carrier (Tmobile, Orange, etc.) already has a Wizard out and Sprint's version has been out since October of last year and Verizon's came out earlier in the month is a real negative to Cingular. As we've seen here, several are already jumping ship to carriers that have better devices to offer right now. By the time they get this thing out the door, it will already be out of date especially since it does not seem like they will try to ship with AKU 2.0/MSFP.

Posted by: dstrauss

There are a good number of people who have sucked it up and bought true Wizards from i-Mate or Qtek, and they work on Cingular...

So why in the h$!! can't Cingular get its own model working?

Or could it be that tweaking and locking have finally worked their ultimate magic and crashed the ship? Remember a few years ago when music companies tired to "lock down" music CD's and they started skipping/failing in various players and computers.

It would serve these proprietary yoyos right to have the 8125 screw up royally by tweaking it into oblivion.

blueshockeynut, got anything yet?

After following along with this thread for quite some time... I consistently wonder why we can't just any information from the horses mouth. Why is there never any official information from Cingular? Aren't there tech reporters or bloggers out there that ask questions about these devices? Does Cingular have a public relations department that provides information? Does Cingular have a policy against talking about release dates?

Posted by: blueshockeynut

Ok guys, finally was able to get back on after a still very busy day, I was only able to talk with the folks for about a half hour, I was able to let them know my concerns with the device and my praises for the device which they seem to take very seriously, on top of which I will be able to have a much longer conversation with them next month concerning devices for the entire year just have to wait until OEM's are taken care of, more to follow later.

Ok, first, they are actually sending out another one to me to replace that one that I have currently, the new one is going to be updated with the new ROM and software. That way I can take a closer look at what was fixed and get into it a little more.

Ok, the word that everyone has been waiting for, at this point and time, the device will more then likely be released-----------at the end of this month!!!! Probably around the 27th timeframe!

Now with that being said, I was told that they are really pushing the lab engineers to finish their testing and get this thing out the door, these people actually realize how important this is to us folks, I made it very well known that Cingular is losing customers daily, just because of this one device, and that is just regular consumers, that doesnt even include buisness people at this point.

Now, since all of this came from the horses mouth, one thing that was brought up was the fact that it has a small possibility of getting pushed back until the first part of Feb!!!! Why you might ask, believe it or not, it has a great deal to do with the Chinese New Year celebrations...........Dont ask me, I have no idea why, who or when for that matter, after talking with the individual here at work who is from China, this happens during the last week of the month and is one big party from my understanding.....I have no idea what any of this has to do with the 8125, but I would have to guess it has something to do with manufactoring!!!!!

Ok, let the games begin.

Posted by: CA

They probably don't know either. If it is a radio stack it seems to me that would of been done with a long time ago then adjusted. These specifications don't just happen after the fact they are planed for in a timely fashion. And the engineers are professionals. They however may be scapegoats.

There is more to this story.

Bravo blueshockeynut thanks for the update. I just pulled the tirgger on the Treo so If the 8125 comes out and i am within the 30 days then I will check it out if no oh well. guess I will wait. But thanks again for the update.....

Posted by: UBetchya

Wow. So it seems that they have to ship their warehouse full of 8125's with the bad builds back to China to get reflashed or something. Makes sense. Seems like they should at least be able to start taking orders.

Posted by: Mykeee

My number one gripe with the QTek 9100 was the GPRS issues. A new ROM was leaked for it and that issue has, for the past 36 hours, been resolved. WiFi is working fine and the speakerphone is actually usable now. I don't have a bt headset on me right now but other reviews state that the device now wakes up when a bt headset is connected to it and the user would like to dial through their bt headset. Many of the bugs have already been worked out with the 9100 ROM. Cingular needs to get cracking on this because seriously, once the w810 and n80 drops my qtek 9100 will be sitting on the shelf next to me 6682 and 6230b.

thanks, BHN.

I am going to order the 2125 today, and if the 8125 comes out in time, I may switch.

Whos the ROCKSTAR! Nice.... Now we wait and see.....

There are a bunch of different issues going on here. First of all regarding the 8125 itself. I would rather they wait to get it right then release a buggy device. And as people have commented before, there was NO official date announced for this device there have been NO delays.

The second issue is around marketing. ICingular may have missed an opportunity to market this phone to a wider audience, but who knows, it may be in the works once the device is actually ready to release. The last thing they want to do is hype a device and then not have enough avaible to buy (XBox 360 anybody?)

I have not seen Cingular really market ANY device to get people to switch/signup to their service like the other carriers do. The way marketing is done is strictly by the numbers. If Cingular sees a drop in subscriber numbers overall or for a particular market/demographic or they want to increase those numbers, they will market more aggresively to that segment. Somebody in marketing may have decided that a PocketPC device in that price range is not a mainstream device and business only. This is usually based on some reasearch. If not, then yes, maybe the Marketing guy/gal needs a kick in the rear.

I don't believe that T-Mobile is advertising or marketing its MDA Vario (Wizard) to non-business users. In fact if you just go to T-Mobile's site, you can't even find any mention of that phone (is it even available in the US yet?)

Posted by: CA

Face it this phone is old news, it's time has passed. WM5 with no push, 3G, and expensive data prices. Do you really want it for two years? That's 2-3/08 we are talking about. Cingular HSDPA may be out by then so where does that leave you?

Posted by: Mykeee

Seriously a lot of you people say Cingular is losing a lot of customers over this device are full of it. Cingular has 50+ million subscribers and probably lost about 20-30 hofo'ers. Business device? I worked with corporate people (VP's and whatnot) and their number one gadget was a Treo all the time, no matter what else was on the market. Kids with this phone? This isn't a sidekick, and no where near being a sidekick. I bet cingular is doing just fine without this phone and do not mind the 100-1000 people that will leave to get this phone with another provider. I bet that many people leaving is just a fraction of that many people subscribing to cingular who don't give a rats but about a pocket pc device. If this is your logic then Sprint would be the number 1 provider because they released this phone along with many others a while back. Also, all this whoever is higher up in cingular needs to get their things straight blah blah blah, they run a business that is at the top right now, I think they're doing something properly. If you really want this device get a qtek or a imate and spend the extra cash. You get an unlocked version without any of the cingular software installed.

Posted by: JMBrown

I really don't believe Cingular is losing many customers, especially since 99% of their customers probably dont care about high end phones like this. Really, I would rather have to wait for the phone to be tested and all changes be made, as opposed to getting a horrible device earlier.
