looks nice, but I will only want it if it does 3g data- which some sites says it will have..
like someone posted on the last page, I got a 2125 for small form factor to hold me off until I find a nice PDA that does 3G data.
according to here, hermes is due in May 06. Anytime in 06 is close enough for me to hold off on the 8125. All that drooling for nothing.

Keep in mind, these preliminary release dates are often very far from being the actual release date. As for me, I will likely pick up a K-jam or 9100as I much prefer the looks of the phone, as well as the availability

Posted by: Quatre

I had to pay 519 plus tax to like 551 or something full retail for my apache xv6700 so dont feel bad.

but i did later get a $100 credit when activating a new data plan....though thats the least they can do considering its 45/mo.

hopefully when my v710 refund comes i can all of it back but point is anyway paying full retail for the xv6700 and i think same for the ppc6700 is paying 500 something.
so.... dont feel bad about getting kjam or qtek at those prices.

Posted by: Rino808

yeah where did you get the q-tec9100 for around $500...its all around 6 to 7 hundo...and i agree that the imate and qtecs look way beter than the 8125...but that hermes looks really good with that 2 meg camera and it does look slimmer...geeezz and i just picked up a nokia n70...omg...im really looking into getting the k-jam due to that the review on geek. was awesome...he picked it over the 9100...but it seems that the 9100 has a faster processor...

Ahhh this phone is still not out yet...hell my contacts don't even know exactly when. Oh well......

Already on it, that information will not be available until next month, reason being is Cingular is currently in the process of awarding contracts to the OEM/ODM's for certain devices, I have another confence call coming up next month were I will be able to discuss with the product management what new devices are coming out, in this case, things like the Hermes, Moto Q and that stuff.

Posted by: substring

Since I am not on any contract with Cingular, I am checking out my options right now.

The XV6700 is almost the same as the 8125. I have never used CDMA and I don't know its performance, but I don't hate it. I am not a world traveler, so I don't need to swap any sim card. Some people hate the antenna. But it does not bother me. I am still using my SX-56 that has the same exact antenna.

For all the gurus, besides what I have stated above, what other downsides on the XV6700 that I need to be aware of?

As a side note, mytreo.net just announced the Treo 700W for NEW SUBSCRIBERS for $299, you pay $499 upfront and get about $200 back in rebates.

Is the 700w unlocked or can it be used on Cingular GSM ?
I'm not going to get one just curiuos

I like the 8125 in the black
Will they be offering a black model ?
Also thanks blueshockeynut for all the info

Im pretty sure the only 700w on the market currently is the CDMA version.

In my busines People ask me eveyday how they can get email / Internet while away from home They just don't know how or where to get it from. I know if they knew they would spend $299 - $399 on a handheld device instead of a bulky laptop.
I my eyes Cingular is about 6 months behind in the phones they offer and in the Technology.
Cingular #1 lets see how long ?
--------------
I just made up my mind
I will live with the 2125 $199 and my laptop, speeds on edge on the laptop are pretty good better then ISDN.
Will also use the new Treo 650 $139 when it comes in today.
these 2 phones will get me by, I'm not spending anymore $ on phones especially $400 $500 thats crazy thats a lot of money to me.
I will be bypassing the 8125 (not G3) and just get the next "NEW DEVICE"
I remember when the Sony s710 was to be released I wanted it so bad but by time it came out there was better phones with more features.

Verizon has exclusive rights to this phone for the first 6 months if memory serves and is currently just CDMA/EVDO based.

I would expect a Palm based version of the 700 in Q3-Q4 possibly of this year.

Posted by: pcman

Thanks
that's what I thought
I just bought the treo 650 on reviews I have read and even from your own comparing it to the 8125 but the price of the 650 $139 and 8125 $399 ? made me jump on the treo.
Also any camera phone without a flash is almost useless.
Keep us informed of new phones
Thanks again for the great info shock.

I work for Cingular. We had a conference call last week and were told the 8125 would be out on 01/31/06. During this weeks call they changed the date to 04/06....Who knows if will ever really be released!

Posted by: toyfreak

Wow, #2819 should really crank up the fear and loathing. Does anyone think we would all be better off had we just stayed in the dark on the 8125? Hopefully the mods recognize our need to vent publicly. Maybe an 8125 info thread and an 8125 rant thread to separate the wheat from the chaff?

I'm getting the XV6700, probably in another week or two. I don't see any down side of it at all. EVDO data is much faster than EDGE. And I actually prefer the antenna, since it allows you to have a normal size stylus (the stylus is stored along the same side as the antenna). With the KJAM/8125, you have a tiny fold-out stylus that looks like it would be difficult to use. Overall the 6700 seems nicer looking -- especially the Verizon one in black. It has the windows and "OK" buttons instead of the other buttons that the KJAM/8125 has. I know you can re-assign the ones on the KJAM, but they are out of position being on top of the screen instead of on bottom. And the Camera on the 6700 is supposed to be quite a bit better than the KJAM camera -- at least that is what the reveiws seems to say.

The only things that seem preferable about the KJAM or 8125 are:

1) the size (no antenna), but I didn't realize how tiny the 6700 was until I went to the store and held it in my hand. The pictures make it look larger. Also, I think the 6700 is a tiny bit thicker (maybe .05 inches?)

2) stereo sound and better speakerphone. The 6700 has a lousy small mono speaker and the speaker phone volume is quite low. So if you use the speaker phone a lot (I almost never do), then you may prefer the KJAM or 8125

3) battery life -- as usual, GSM phones have better battery life than CDMA, and these are no different. But the 6700 seems to have the best battery life of any CDMA Pocket PC phone that has been available thus far. Most people seem to get 2 days out of it, and even heavy users are reporting that it lasts through the day and they only need to charge it once every evening.

Did you change jobs since your post at http://howardforums.com/showthread....115#post6086115
where you indicate you are an indirect agent?

You're just trying to get us riled up. Shame on you

I would not trust post #2819. I doubt Cingular would push back the 8125 since all of the other carriers already have either released it or are about to. Just trying to rile us up. No one seems to have concrete evidence when this phone will actually be released. I guess we will just have to wait and see. I still have high hopes for sometime in Feb.

In reference to pushing back the release date due to Chinese New Year celebrations, I’m not really surprised by this. My sister is in the marketing business and a lot of their venders close for the Chinese New Year’s so they pretty much just shut down as well because they can’t get any supplies for their clients. This may not be a bad thing because this will potentially allow them to get a good amount of inventory instead of selling the phone for one week and then telling people that they ran out and won’t see supplies for 2-3 weeks.

As far as the Cingular bashing, just remember no company is perfect. I have been with Verizon and Sprint in the past and Cingular has been the best by far. My main concern/need is coverage and Cingular has what I need. I used to laugh when my old roommate would have to walk out on the front porch or the back deck to be able to place/receive a call with Verizon and I could be anywhere in the house (we were in the middle of the city so you would have thought that there wouldn’t be a signal issue). Like many I’m bummed about the release date being pushed back again and again but it’s not going to make me switch carriers. If you’re not happy with Cingular then move on but don’t be surprised if you run into the same problem with the other carrier down the road. Just my 2 cents.

Sorry, let me rephrase that. I work for an indirect agent for Cingular. On our last conference we were told that it was pushed back until April 06.

Why would I try to get people riled up???? I'm just as anxious as everyone else for one of these.... I thought the purpose of this forum was to share knowledge. Next time, I won't post what I know.

And when February comes and goes without the phone being released I'll be laughing saying "I told you so!". But I'll keep it to myself.

This is exactly why I don't really visit this forum anymore.

Everyboy here already knows everything

They're selling the ppc-6700 with 2yr activations at $275.
$275 with a $150 ETF from cingular is still $425, $25 less then the 8125 is suposed to be.

I've recieved mine from them, and I would like to share with you guys what I like about this device and why I don't regret it. Hopefully someone else can take advantage of opportunity for a much better solution as opposed to waiting for less.

1) Data is a heck of a lot faster (EVDO is the primary speed, 300-400kbps, 1xRTT as a secondary, which is about as fast as EDGE)
2) Sprint is cheaper (esp with data)
3) The "Ok" and Windows buttons make it one hand operable. Without these, they would not.. (8125 has neither)
4) I love the joypad, I'm a fan of joypads over dpads.
5) Full sized stylus > retractable

Why would the 8125 not have the Windows and Ok buttons?

And I could care less what size the stylus is. No one here has a Nintendo DS? I've been using a smaller stylus for over a year. I'll be fine with the smaller 8125 stylus.

SPRINT Customer Service SUCKs! I gave in (got sick of waiting for the 8100) and I bought the 6700 from Sprint for $400. I had a few questions that first night and I called customer service. After 2 hours and 4 dropped calls between transfers from my home phone and misinformation and rudeness from their customer service I cancelled the contract and returned the phone the next day. The Store Salesman cleared up the mess and answered my questions, but at that point I had given up and switched back to Cingular. Sprint does not put their customer first. Cingular on the other hand might be ignorant about the up and coming phones and slow to release em but they have always tried to help me everytime I have called and are never rude. I really want the 8100/25.

Doesn't Cingular do something "funny" to their phones that is not standard GSM, whereby the phone will jump between 850 and 1900 mHz depending on network load? I vaguly reading about this somewhere. Something where most phone would search 1900 first and just camp there, clogging the network, so CIngular added some protocol to load balance. Or maybe I dreamed all this up...

It doesn't have the start or OK button, but it can be reconfigured to do so, although it would be nice if it were set that way by default.

Posted by: JMBrown

ok, my lack of patience has taken over...I think I'm just gonna spend the extra money and buy an I-jam. I like the looks of it better, anyways. The only thing stoping me at this point is, being from cingular, will the 8125 have anything software wise (or RF maybe) that would make it better than the K-jam? Essentially, what i want to know is will I be missing out on anything if I just get the k-jam?

Only problem with this is that the 2 extra buttons are on the top of the screen. So the end result is you still need 2 hands, unless you have an extremely long thumb.

Thanks to all that contributed to this thread and the information provided.

This thread has reached critical mass so with the phone nearing release I thought it would be best to organize the info on a new thread.

http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=826239

I have asked that if anyone feels that specific posts in this thread would be helpful for newbies coming here for info, please PM me the post and I will include it on the OP of the new thread.
