you're not gonna find the firmware from just any site... sites u listed up there don't even provide the cross-platform firmware.

@ S.L. I'm not looking for any other firmware - in fact, I'd very much like to keep the Japanese one (I don't care about T9 or MP3 capabilities) - I only want the phone to be unlocked without any further hassle with thee power button or what have you

i saw on another forum the taiwainess have successfully loaded chinese into the jap fw and fully unlocked... only problem is... the color is messed up ~ so they are working to fix that ~ if they manage to do it ~ i'm keeping the jap fw for sure

yeah I've heard that flashing foreign firmware into a different region's handset eg. Chinese to Jap has caused problems with the hardware.
