Just got a used 5600. I turn it on, and it asks for a network lock code?

I turn on the phone, and it says "network is locked - please input unlock code"

I've searched and found out how to unlock the phone, but I can't even get past this screen to run any programs that would unlock it.

Is there anyway to get the "network unlock code" to make this sucker work?

Please help....

You have to find a SIM card from the original Wireless Provider (borrow one if you can) that the phone was sold for. That will get you pass the unlock screen - then you can use the unlock instructions...

I have a question, what do you mean by unlocking. does this mean you can use a it on the network as if you were paying customer? or does it just mean you can use the applications on it

Neither.

A locked cell phone has a bit of software which will only allow it to work with a specific company's network and SIM card. In other words, a Cingular branded phone will ONLY work with a Cingular SIM, and a T-Mobile phone will work only with a T-Mobile SIM.

You must realize, though, that there is no technological difference between a Cingular and a T-Mobile phone. It's literally just a software switch that keeps you from using a Cingular phone on your T-Mobile account, and vice versa.

Unlocking is a way to turn off that software switch. Its primary purpose is to allow you to use a phone not made for or available for your network. It also increases the resale value of your phone, in practically all cases.

Unlocking ATT phones has a particularly practical appication -- many were high end phones, including the initial release of the SMT5600. But, it was SIM locked to ATT, and Cingular (merged with ATT) is reluctant to give out unlocking codes. By unlocking your phone, you can use your old ATT phone with your new Cingular SIM.

thank you for the explanation.

I have a att account right now, and they said If I want to sign a new contract to be eligible for the discounts, I must sign as cingular as they arent taking any more att accounts. I guess theyre phazing them out? anyway the guy on over the phone told me they use completely different sim cards. Interesting. maybe they r different but they still work in the same slot? Im thinking of going with the 5600

The SIM cards are a standard chip/pinout. They all fit in the same slots.

BUT, the software reads their identity, and decides whether to let you use the phone/SIM combination. That's "locking" the phone...letting only a Cingular branded SIM work in a Cingular branded phone, etc. Cingular's SIM will also be more advanced than your ATT SIM -- more internal memory, enhanced network software, etc...but the bottom line is that a SIM is a SIM as far as your phone is concerned.

It's only the software *in* the phone that cares what brand name the SIM carries. Unlocking gets rid of that restriction.

If you want to see what happens, ask a friend if you can borrow their SIM. Preferably not an ATT friend. Swap SIM cards and watch what happens with your ATT branded phone. It'll recognize that a SIM is present and might try to link to the specified network...and it'll fail...if it even makes the attempt at all.

P.S. If you want a smartphone and don't mind staying with your ATT plan...consider getting a locked ATT SMT5600. It'd take your SIM chip directly, no unlocking necessary...and it'll have a lower value on the open market because it's locked to a mostly defunct network.

SMT5600 is able to be unlocked with a simple piece of software, downloadable off the net. It's the easiest smartphone to unlock, in case you want to change to Cingular Orange, later.

What software unlocks the audiovox 5600?

Posted by: rosullivan04

SMT-Developers Unlock Kit

Posted by: chuckknight

That software unlocks it -- you also need to carrier unlock it. Do a search on google, for "C500 unlock free" and see what comes up. C500 is the model name in Europe.

Hmm... The SMT-Developers Unlock Kit DOES carrier unlock it. Done it to four phones so far.

To the OP, you need to call customer service and see what they can do for you. I received mine today and it was locked to AT&T as well. They are supposed to be sending me the unlock code. Hopefully!

This was a major flub by Cingular. Selling refurb units on their website that turn out to be locked to AT&T.

I stand corrected. My bad.

when I unlocked mine (I used the unlock checker) it says it is unlocked. (step 2 in the process - so I go to step 3 and on the second part of it .....)
When I go to the SPV-developer program and run it and it comes back with this error:

"Unknown error -2147467259 in read operation"

If I just move on and put the cingular sim card in (which is the last step - but the one I am to do if the SPV thing is completed correctly) I get "Network is Locked Please input unlock code"

Any help would be great. I cannot seem to get the SPV developers Services to work right. I have downloaded it serveral times and re-extracted it to try to make sure it was not corrupt.

do you have an AT&T sim card in it while your running this program?

Posted by: ftballrocks

Yes I put the AT&T card in it to do steps one and 2. Then after the error I pull the card and put the cingular card in.

If you haven't already, follow the steps in the thread that I linked above.

Posted by: ftballrocks

Thank you so much, my wife is very happy!

Evidently I had the older (non-us) version of pvs services. That is what caused the error. The new one worked beautifully.

Thank you and have a great thanksgiving!

Posted by: zadosha

No problem. I've got an unbranding kit if you'd like to get rid of the AT&T stuff and put Cingular stuff on it. Just PM me if you're interested.

i read everything, didn't see anything about unlocking the MOTOROLA V3 RAZOR. please advise.

Posted by: chuckknight

Why would there have been any unlocking information for a Motorola phone? This entire sub-forum is dedicated to Audiovox phones, and this thread is about one specific Audiovox smartphone, model 5600.

Let me do a quick search on google and see if I can find anything for you.

It's not free...but it seems to be reputable.
