Wassup peoples,

My contract is up in a month and want to switch to Cingular. I want to get the Razr, and have heard good things, but today when I went to the store and saw it I was like wow that is so thin...which is great but I also started second guessing it and wondering if it would break or start coming loose or something very soon after buying it. I would appreciate any opinions on it. I'm pretty much decided on the Razr but its just buggin me a bit. Thanks

The razr is pretty durable and gets great reception. it also has amazing bluetooth, something nextel people aren't familiar with.

It's a good start for a first GSM phone.

It's also got a horrid excuse for a user interface, and isn't as good reception-wise as a lot of Nokias. My dad insisted I get him a RAZR off of ebay, and now he drops calls constantly in the same places where he did with his Moto TDMA phones. He's back to his Nokia 6230 that never drops.

ymmv, gl

While not trying to crap all over this thread, Nextel is familiar with bluetooth.

Don't have as many phones with it granted, but there are phones with bluetooth.

Anyway back to what the OP asked about...I too am quite content with the Nextel phone build quality so when I got a Cingular line. I picked up a razr and kicked it around a little bit. While not as rugged as a 530, it should take some knocking around. Mine's been kicked across a concrete floor with nary a mark even on it. Like someone said, it's a good starter GSM phone. I've had mine 4 months and already wana get rid of it for something else.

My RAZR is tougher than my v551 was. I've dropped it as many times as I dropped the v551 I had for eight months and while the v551 got scratched up, I don't have a single mark on my RAZR. I've dropped it on pergo, carpet, concrete, just a couple feet mind you, and it's fine. I've had it nearly five months and plan to use it at least until after Christmas, which is pretty good.
If you want a solid cell phone in terms of use as a phone, I highly recommend it. Besides, if you try it you'll know pretty quick if you don't like it. Luckily you can exchange phones once with Cingular during the 30-day trial.
I've been very happy with mine. I've used more than a dozen phones on three different carriers in the past year and a half and it's easily my favorite.
