The device can't play video clips or mp3s. Emailing them to the device will just tie up space in your email account.

You can definately e-mail wave files to your danger hiptop. I sent them to my friend Jacob on his fidohiptop.ca e-mail address and he received them as an e-mail attachment and installed them directly into his imported ringtone list. the WAV file has to meet certain specs before the hiptop will recognize/play it.

Do you know what those "certain specs" are?

Not really "specs"

The WAV files can be installed on Fido because Fido allows that. T Mobile does not.

T Mobile simply "locked" that feature....

You can email WAV files to yourself on T Mobile and play them..but not install them as a ringtone.

As for any questions regarding MP3 playback and Video playback, it wont happen on the Sidekick..even with the 2.3 update. The Sidekick is simply too slow.

if u make them any thing greater than 8k or 22000khz they wont play.. it has to be the monoest and lowest quality wav for it to play

no it doesnt.. theres another thread here that explains how... if not.. ill make a thread

It should play any wav/amr file you throw it at it.

And for the flash in 2.3... In system info hit Menu Shift D and do a flash LED diagnostic

If your Sidekick/Hiptop is a non-T-Mobile one (aka you have Fido or SunCom), you can save ringtones through email. T-Mobile had this feature disabled on their branded sidekicks though

i always woundered y. so y did T=Mobile lock this feature. our SK OS is soo locked down. we dont have alot of freedom.

God only knows where these people hear these rumors that the Hiptop supports video.

BUT, I do know what you're talking about regarding the color flash. It is a self diagnostic test. I forget the combo's but I think from the Jump screen, you go to menu--settings--about sidekick--menu +shift+d--and that should bring up diagnostic. Uncheck them all and just check the Flash LCD one.

Pretty neat.
